Worthless house like the hightowers? Where did he get such arrogance? It's not like the Velaryons were originally dragon riders that they should have such pride to dismiss other houses. They were just sworn to the Targaryens and even in Valeria the Targaryens were not of high status so them as bannermen were inconsequential. They overreach too much and have too much pride. I think one of the mistakes the old king and raenys did was getting married to corlys. Dragons and a Targaryen princess got married out instead of into the family. That's probably one of the reasons she got passed over as queen. She should have married a second son who marries into the family/take the Targaryen name or even Viserys. Well this is just my opinion when I didn't read the book/watch the show. Maybe if I did, I would get more details and change my opinion.
