Capítulo 12: Chapter 28: Finally, It's Over

The female parasite walked up to Cyrus's lifeless body and said coldly, "For creatures like you, whose parasitic points aren't clearly defined, destroying the heart is the most effective method."

Life has a way of being dramatically ironic.

Scenes from before were now replaying, but this time, the protagonist was Cyrus. Shinichi, arriving just in time to see this, was engulfed in profound grief.

He pressed his hand against his chest, wanting to cry but forgetting how to shed tears.

"Cyrus!" Shinichi gritted his teeth, regretting that he had arrived too late.

Shinichi's appearance startled the female parasite. Seeing Shinichi unharmed, she was puzzled. "Why? I clearly killed you. Did I not manage to kill you then? Or is your heart located differently from a normal person's?"

"No, it can't be that simple. I should have known better and cut off your head as well."

Suddenly, the female parasite seemed to realize something and instinctively looked at Cyrus's body.

But it was too late.

Without warning, a blade pierced through the female parasite's heart. The sudden reversal caught everyone off guard.

The female parasite looked down at the blade piercing her heart, her emotionless eyes showing rare disbelief. Before she could say anything further, another blade sliced through her neck, and with a squelching sound, her head was severed from her body.

"What?" Shinichi quickly turned his gaze back to Cyrus's body.

Then, to everyone's astonishment, Cyrus calmly stood up.

"That was close. I almost really died. By the way, Shinichi, your timing was really bad. Fortunately, my luck held out; she didn't react in time," Cyrus complained as he shattered the female parasite's head to ensure she couldn't revive.

"You… you were pierced through the heart, weren't you?"

Typically, when a parasite's heart is destroyed, it's a death sentence. Even with Migi's help, Shinichi took an entire day and night to recover from a similar injury. Cyrus, appearing unharmed, seemed to shatter Shinichi's understanding of parasites.

"You must have relocated your heart, right? During the fight, you were prepared for a heart injury, so you deliberately acted as if you couldn't dodge the attack from the female parasite," said Parase, who was attached to Ueda's chin, demonstrating intelligence far beyond Ueda's.

While Ueda was still dazed, Parase revealed the truth.

Clap, clap, clap! Cyrus couldn't help but applaud, "You're really smart. It's a shame you didn't get to eat Ueda's brain; otherwise, your intelligence would have been wasted."

"Indeed, I did relocate my heart in advance. After all, her attack intentions were too obvious. If she could destroy my heart, she wouldn't attack other areas," Cyrus explained, suddenly coughing and turning pale.

Shinichi, noticing this, quickly asked, "What's wrong?"

"It's nothing serious. I just used up too many nutrients from my blood while healing the wound. I just need to rest a bit," Cyrus said with a victorious smile, looking at the shriveled corpse of the parasite on the ground.

"You took quite a risk. If she hadn't targeted your heart and had instead gone for your head, you'd have been truly dead."

Shinichi shook his head, disapproving of Cyrus's risky approach.

"No, no, no. If you have a 90% chance of success, it's not really a risk. Besides, I'm someone who values my life. If she had changed her attack direction, I would have either dodged or sacrificed another part of my body, like my arm," Cyrus replied with a grin.

"Quite a perfect plan," Parase praised.

"Anyway, it's finally over," Shinichi thought, feeling as if a great weight had been lifted from his heart. He looked out at the vast, blue ocean, a smile slowly forming on his lips.

In the end, at Cyrus's suggestion, the four of them held a lavish seafood feast on the beach, with Maki being invited by Shinichi.

"Indeed, only fresh ingredients can truly bring out the flavor of the food," Cyrus said, cracking open a crab claw and savoring the snowy white crab meat.

"Thanks to you, Cyrus, I get to enjoy such a delicious meal," Ueda said, taking large bites and feeling moved.

"This must have cost tens of thousands of yen," Maki said, covering her mouth as she looked at the precious ingredients.

"Money is just an external thing, no need to worry about it," Cyrus said, placing a plate of cut tuna in front of her.

"Indeed, there's no need to worry. This guy's money is like it was found on the street… or rather, it's exactly like it was found on the street," Shinichi interjected, and then briefly explained the situation.

"I didn't expect you to have been in the news. Can we take a photo together?" Maki asked.

"Sure," Cyrus agreed readily.

"Ueda, what are your plans now?" Shinichi asked.

Ueda scratched his head. "I quit my job before coming here, thinking I'd end my life here. But things turned out to be so complicated. Now, I plan to bring my child here and find a regular job. After all, it's a beautiful place."

"It is indeed a beautiful place, but unfortunately, I have to leave," Shinichi said with a smile, looking towards Tokyo.

"Are you going back?" Maki asked, a hint of sadness in her eyes. Shinichi noticed but pretended not to.

However, Maki still smiled and said, "Well, remember to visit here when you have time."

"Definitely."

"Definitely."

...

The next morning, Cyrus met Shinichi's parents, who were very grateful and spoke to him with great courtesy.

This made Cyrus feel somewhat uncomfortable.

After leaving the hospital, he and Shinichi walked side by side toward the ship to Tokyo.

"To be honest, you look better without your glasses. No wonder Maki didn't want you to leave. If you ask me, you should just marry into her family. They do have a hotel, after all," Cyrus joked.

Having experienced so much, Shinichi had matured a lot. He turned to look at the hotel and said softly, "Some things aren't beautiful just because you possess them. Sometimes, regrets can also be beautiful memories."

"Sorry, I only know that women slow me down from becoming stronger," Cyrus shrugged and said without any romantic sentiment.
