Capítulo 13: Chapter 29: The Pretentious Fool

In the days that followed, everything seemed to fall back into place.

Moreover, due to the previous incident with Parasite A, Cyrus was successfully elected as the vice president of the Kendo Club with 80% of the votes.

From then on, Cyrus was always surrounded by a group of followers.

It wasn't until a transfer student named Hideyoshi Shimada appeared that Cyrus's previously calm life was disrupted.

"Cyrus, the high school student known as the Sword Saint. Ryoko Tamiya has mentioned you before, and I'm quite interested in you. Let's be friends," Hideyoshi Shimada said, standing in front of Cyrus and extending his right hand for a handshake.

Cyrus merely glanced at him and did not respond.

As the two were about to pass each other, Hideyoshi continued, "I spoke with Shinichi Izumi before. My philosophy is similar to Ryoko Tamiya's. I won't make a move against anyone in this school. In fact, I haven't harmed any humans recently. We're seeking a way to coexist with humans in this society."

"This is the only way out for all parasitic beings, and you're no exception."

His words made Cyrus pause.

"Ryoko Tamiya must have been surprised to learn that I'm still alive. She probably thought I would die at the hands of those parasites in the foothold zone. Unfortunately, her plan didn't succeed." Cyrus turned around, looking at Hideyoshi with a flat expression.

"And those words of yours might fool Shinichi, but to me, they're just nonsense. Whether or not you've made a move against people in this school doesn't concern me."

Hideyoshi didn't expect Cyrus to be unaffected by his threats. Was he just pretending to be tough or did he really not care?

As Ryoko Tamiya said, this guy was indeed difficult to deal with.

But that made things all the more interesting, didn't it?

"I think the folks in the foothold zone would be quite interested in killing the guy in the middle of things," Hideyoshi suddenly said.

"Are you threatening me?" Cyrus stepped closer, placing his hand on Hideyoshi's shoulder. "Do you think I might attack you in front of everyone? Even Ryoko Tamiya couldn't avoid my attack from this close."

Hideyoshi didn't answer, took a step back, and then turned to leave.

"You pretentious fool," Cyrus muttered quietly as he watched Hideyoshi walk away.

"Where did that guy come from? Seems like he doesn't get along with the president," Kumagai Koichi, a member of the Kendo Club, said with irritation. "He acts so high and mighty in front of the president. I don't get why he's being so arrogant."

"He's a transfer student from the second-year Class 3, Hideyoshi Shimada. I heard he ran the 100 meters in 10.08 seconds during gym class," said Imura, who was standing beside him, looking serious.

Kumagai looked incredulous. "What? 10.08 seconds? That time is good enough for national-level competitions."

Then he glanced at Cyrus and whispered, "These days, transfer students are like monsters. The president is already so strong, and yet there are even scarier ones."

...

The school bell rang, signaling the end of classes.

Shinichi stopped Cyrus. "Let's walk together. I need to talk to you about something."

"About Hideyoshi Shimada?" Cyrus casually gathered his textbooks without even picking up his bag.

"Yes. Did he talk to you too?" Shinichi and Cyrus walked down the corridor and ran into Murano Rimi, Tachikawa Yuko, and Miho. These three were close friends, always together.

"Are you talking about Akiyoshi?" Miho asked curiously.

"Akiyoshi?"

Cyrus frowned. What kind of nickname was that? He wondered if these three were secretly giving him nicknames behind his back.

"Hideyoshi Shimada, so he's called Akiyoshi."

Shinichi's face darkened upon hearing the nickname. Such names are usually reserved for those who are close.

It seemed Miho had a good impression of Hideyoshi Shimada.

But since he was a parasite, interacting with him was too dangerous for humans.

However, Shinichi couldn't directly warn Miho, as it might lead to misunderstandings with Murano Rimi.

"Yes, I knew him before he transferred. It seems he was expelled from his previous school for fighting and causing a minor to become pregnant. But I heard his family background is pretty good, and he paid a lot of money to transfer to our school," Shinichi said with suspicion. Cyrus, however, was just making things up with a serious expression.

In the realm of public opinion, the more sensational, the better. Few people care about the truth; they only care about how explosive the topic is.

Sure enough, as soon as Cyrus finished speaking, the three girls were astonished.

Tachikawa Yuko said instinctively, "No way, he doesn't look like that kind of person."

"I only heard this, so don't spread it around, or people might think I'm spreading rumors," Cyrus said with a sunny smile.

Miho, however, fell into deep thought and said seriously, "What Cyrus said could be true. After all, it's strange that he transferred in just before the end of the semester."

"Alright, alright. These are just speculations. Shinichi and I have matters to discuss, so we'll be going now."

Outside the school, Shinichi asked Cyrus curiously if what he said earlier was true.

"Not at all, I was just making things up," Cyrus said, surprised that Shinichi doubted his words.

Did he make up a story too convincingly?

"Damn, I should have known," Shinichi said, rubbing his forehead.

"But isn't it bad to make up stories like this? If others believe it, Hideyoshi Shimada could be really troubled."

Shinichi expressed concern.

Cyrus was defeated by Shinichi's naivety. He said with a sigh, "You don't really believe what he said, do you? A little common sense would tell you he's a spy sent by Ryoko Tamiya to monitor us and is on the opposite side."

"I agree with Cyrus."

At that moment, Migi emerged from Shinichi's hand and said with its big eyes, "What he says isn't trustworthy. He claims he's living off human food, but there's no evidence that parasites living in human brains can obtain nutrients from human food. After all, their entire heads have undergone changes."

"But there's no evidence to prove that parasites can't survive by eating human food either." Shinichi still clung to a glimmer of hope that parasitic beings and humans could coexist.
