Capítulo 4: Full moon party (part 3)
Have you had a nightmare that you were standing in front of your whole class naked?
Now... Imagine that your classmates are all eight to twelve-foot tall massive werewolves with sharp claws and enormous fangs ready to tear you apart at any moment...
...yeah...
That's my current situation... minus the naked part, but honestly, I doubt my cheap hiking equipment would pose even the slightest obstacle if any of those monsters would decide to tear me apart.
If there is ever a time when an adult is completely justified to piss themselves – it is this exact time!
But, there's no way that anything would leak anyway – I was so tense that I basically turned to stone, staring in horror at the black claw pointing straight at me.
"H-human...? Wait, you're saying that she is just a human?! Then how did she get here in the first place?!"
The werewolf Cindy gasped in shock, looking between me and the Selene werewolf as if we were playing tennis.
"That is what I want to know!"
Werewolf Selene barked back furiously, clamping her jaws at me as if she wanted to end my existence with a single chomp.
"...!"
I trembled unable to even make the tiniest sound.
...it really seemed that it will be my end...
...a stupid human entered the territory of mythical beasts and will get what was coming for her...
To say that I was scared out of my mind was an understatement.
But then...
I glanced at him.
The largest of all, with lush jet black fur and emerald eyes – basked in the silver moonlight, he looked like the most alluring gem of the night.
I was surrounded by the scariest monsters I have ever seen, except for him.
All the other werewolves were terrifying – their fangs, claws, and even spiky fur – in my eyes they were all beasts from a nightmare – except for him.
The man... the werewolf called Lucian.
I looked at him, and our eyes met.
He seemed stunned, staring at me in disbelief, as if unable to process what was happening.
His beautiful eyes trembled and he opened and closed his jaws as if he wanted to say something, but couldn't find the right words.
"With all the damned precaution that we could take...! How did a mere human slipped past all the security we've set up?!"
Werewolf Selene growled grabbing her head in fury.
"Wait..."
She suddenly froze and she jumped over the left side tables with ease and soared through the air past the bonfire, landing in front of my table.
I felt the earth tremble under her weight and my heart fell...
"Wrrrrr..."
Werewolf Selene growled and leaned forward, sniffing the air around me.
"The stench of the bloodsuckers... That's how you managed to sneak past everything... You're with them!"
With each word she was getting louder and louder until she started roaring and winded up to tear me apart with her claws...!
I cowered and closed my eyes – what else I could do? A monster like her was so much faster than a feeble human like me!
"Don't you DARE!"
The deafening roar pierced through the chilly night air – and I was still somehow alive...
I opened my eyes...
"L-Lucian, what are you saying...! That human had the stench of the bloodsuckers all over her! She's not just an innocent bystander she's clearly on their side!"
The hazelnut-brown werewolf stuttered with her ears down while still in a position ready to finish me off, and she was looking at the furious jet-black werewolf.
"And I told you o stop! The last time I checked I was the Alpha of this pack and I had a final word about how to deal with potential problems!"
Lucian's bared his fangs as he growled, walking towards us, over a foot taller than Selene.
"Y-yes but... she applied to our company – I sent her an email inviting her for a job interview myself, but she didn't call back o arrived at the assigned time, but now she is right here, carrying the stink of those shiny bastards... There's no reason to hesitate...!"
She cowered but did not back off nor put down her clawed hand.
"Selene, you might be the strongest female, but you haven't been chosen as a Luna. What you are doing right now is no more no less but insubordination and disrespect to the Alpha. If you wish to dethrone me, we can fight right here and now and let the moon goddess chose our fate!"
Lucian growled, staring down the female werewolf, and the ridiculously powerful muscles hardened visibly even with all the fur covering his whole body.
"N...no... I do not question your authority or your strength..."
Only then did Selene took a step back, lowering her head and clenching her fists.
"Good – I do not wish to have the blood of my pack member stain my hands."
Lucian scoffed at her and then turned to me and suddenly all of the overwhelming pressure he was giving off disappeared and his emerald eyes cleared out.
"Miss... what's your name."
He asked softly – and I suddenly realized that all the other werewolves got away from me and moved to the left side of the bonfire, leaving me basically one on one with Lucian.
"I know that I look terrifying, but you don't have to..."
"You're not scary- ah...!"
He spoke apologetically and I burst out before I could bite my tongue.
"Oh, I'm happy to hear that."
He blinked in surprise and his eyes widened as if he actually was happy.
"Then... can I learn your name?"
He asked me again.
"Alexis... Alexis L. Smith."
I couldn't help my nervousness so I ended up sounding very bashful.
"Miss Smith. Could you tell me what are you doing here?"
Lucian continued questioning me, but I did not mind it in the slightest.
"I got lost. Things have been bad at my new job, and my mother advised me to go get some fresh air and of all places, I just happened to pick this mountain... and of course, I got lost... with no reception, and my phone's battery died too... and... I saw the glowing arrows and heard the music so..."
I complained feeling more and more embarrassed with each sentence.
"She's obviously lying!"
"...!"
I flinched and jumped on my seat when Selene roared from over the left side of the bonfire.
"..."
"!!!"
Lucian merely straightened his back and turned around – the oppressive aura returned for a split second and silenced the female werewolf instantly.
"It seems that this isn't a good place to have a peaceful conversation, after all..."
He sighed and walked over to the table and approached my seat from the side.
"Excuse my rudeness, miss Smith."
He nodded his head and...
"Ah...!"
Picked me up effortlessly with one hand as if I was a doll, and sat me on his forearm – without thinking I threw my arms around his neck to keep my balance and ended up not only burrowing myself in his fur but also, well, hugging him rather intimately.
"I-I'm sorry! I'll let g-!"
"Don't. Stay like this – or else you might fall."
I hurriedly apologized and tried to pull away, but he only shook his head and smiled in a very human-like manner despite his wolf's head.
"Why would I fa-KYAAAH!"
I began asking but the next moment my question changed into an embarrassing high-pitched scream when Lucian suddenly dashed away from the bonfire into the dark woods leaving his pack and the sudden acceleration took me by surprise.
