I'm not entirely sure how long did we ran through the darkness, but when we finally stopped we were right in the dark empty parking lot near the beginning of the trail from where I set off before noon!
"I hope that I didn't scare you, I didn't want the rest of my pack to follow us so I didn't tell you where we are going."
Lucian apologized and leaned down to allow me to get down, but honestly... I would prefer not to leave his warm embrace...
...as embarrassing as it sounds...!
"Why did you choose this spot...?"
I asked trying to distract him to stay together just a bit longer.
"Oh... Yeah... My first thought was actually to take you to the mountain top where there's the best view on the night sky since the moon is so beautiful tonight..."
He spoke, straightening his back and raising his head, and all the stars reflected in his big captivating eyes.
"...but then I realized that we don't really know each other, and you might feel more at ease in a place that you at least recognize..."
He added sounding slightly hesitant and his ears dropped down a bit, showing that he was worried.
"Thank you."
The thought of him putting my feelings first made my face grew hot again, and even though it was dark, I lowered my head to hide it.
"You know... I really did get lost and found that clearance and your meeting spot by coincidence...!"
I suddenly remembered why he carried me here and tried to hurriedly explain but even for me it didn't sound very convincing...
"I believe you."
He simply answered and shrugged his shoulders.
"I know that this sounds suspicious but I really... um... eh...? You believe me?"
I was in the middle of my next sentence when my brain finally comprehended the meaning of Lucian's words, leaving me quite stunned.
"Yes. You don't smell like a liar. But, there is a very strong aroma of vampires coming from your neck... no wonder that Selene confused you for their servant."
"...ow...!
He smirked and put his cold nose near my neck – the air that he breathed out irritated the wounds on my neck even though the band-aid, making me flinch in from the stinging pain.
"What do you mean, vampires...? That's what that other werewolf was talking about – but, there's no way that they are real..!"
I tensed up and pulled away at my hand's reach from Lucian to look at him without getting down and asked in disbelief.
"Hmm? You are being held by a werewolf, miss Smith, why does it seem like the existence of vampires crosses the line for you...?"
He asked, sounding amused by my reaction.
"But.. but..."
I tried really hard to come up with a proper response to that but... was there even one?
He was right, he was a werewolf – if he exists why wouldn't vampires?
"You mentioned that things are tough at your new job... by any chance... are you constantly tired... and find yourself lacking pieces of your memories?"
Lucian asked carefully watching my face – well, I could tell he was looking at me, or at least facing me, because I could feel his breath tickling my skin – but more importantly, he was describing my situation rather accurately – I certainly didn't mention anything abut memory lose before!
"I-I do, actually...!"
I gasped in shock, grabbing onto his fur.
"Miss Smith... Pardon my lack of less insulting wording, but you are being used as a convenient snack for the vampires that you work for."
He spoke slowly, carefully picking his words.
"That's ridiculous! How could something like that happen in the real world?"
It really was that hard for me to simply accept what Lucian was saying... or maybe that was my pride as a human – the supposed dominant species on the planet earth... though that information should be reevaluated since, well. Werewolves are real... Ummm...
...yeah...
"Someone else at my work would have realized that something's off, right?"
I still tried to apply the logic I grew up with.
"Not if they all are vampires and servants – are you the only new employee at your company...?"
Lucian inquired further, making me start doubting my previous conviction.
"There... there's none... ah! But there is an intern!"
I livened up with realization and called out triumphantly as if I was proving something.
"Young and strikingly handsome?"
But there was no surprise in Lucian's voice when he asked me another question.
"He's not ugly, but he's still a kid, I didn't look at him in that way..."
"That's a newborn high vampire – you are meant to be his first servant."
I hesitated and then Lucian come up with a disturbing revelation.
"No, that doesn't make any sense...!"
I shook my head, desperately clinging to the bits of pieces of my reality that was crumbling down right in front of me.
"...if you want to, I can do something about it... you aren't a servant yet, and there is a certain thing that I can do..."
He spoke up with hesitation, gauging my reaction.
"...something like...?"
I asked slowly.
"I can get rid of the remnants of vampiric venom that prevent the wound on your neck from healing, and if I will mark you as my Luna, and no vampire will dare to touch you anymore."
Lucian spoke his word as if he was a little kid doing his best to confess to his crush.
"That Luna... what does it means to be chosen as a Luna..."
I mean, I kind of already knew, it was kind of obvious even with the limited information I had, but I asked anyway.
"Luna is a female Alpha, and a mate, so a partner, of the male Alpha. It is a very important position in the pack, and considering that we, that is werewolves, only fall in love with a single person thorough our whole lives, becoming one is not a decision that should be taken lightly."
He explained, and yeah... that was what I figured out too... well, except for the falling in love only once - part, that was something I wasn't aware of.
….but also...
"If it's something so important, is it alright for you to offer it to me...?"
I gulped down my saliva and asked timidly.
"I... Yes. I believe that it is a decision that the moon goddess is smiling upon."
My heart was beating so fast...! It was so embarrassing, he definitely could either feel or hear it – he must have realized how happy I was just hearing those words!
This is insane...!
The werewolves are real, and one of them basically confessed to me...!
The company I work for is run by vampires that tried to make me their servant...
And if I remember correctly Selene said that she saw my application to join their company before...?
This all sounds like a...
Like a...
Like... a...
...crap...
The warm fuzzy feeling disappearing from my chest just as suddenly as it appeared.
Ah... of course...
"Miss Smith...?"
Lucian asked, sounding very worried about the sudden change in my behavior.
But what could I say back to him once I realized?
This whole situation...
All of this must be a dream!
Of course, it is!
I am so tired from overworking myself that I probably collapsed in my apartment and am nuzzling up against a carpet or something while dreaming about a fearsome werewolf that's being protective and nice only to me.
...crap... I want to cry... why did I have to realize that all of this is fake...?
Now I will surely wake up, alone, needing to get up and go back to work where all my coworkers are dumping their work on me...
"Hey, your name is Lucian, isn't it...?"
...if this is a dream that will end, I will at least try enjoying it to the fullest while it lasts...!
"Ah! Forgive me, miss Smith, that was so rude of me to not introduce myself! My name is Lucian King."
The werewolf of my dreams introduced himself with a truly dreamy name.
"Lucian... I will be your Luna, so just drop the miss Smith thing. Alexis is fine, or just Alex, pfft, even Alexa if you will."
I laughed and kissed the tip of his cold wet nose...
... while trying to not think that in the real world was kissing the floor or something...
...and I hugged him.
"!!!!"
He flinched but ended up returning the hug.
"...If that's okay with you, Alexis..."
He whispered and I felt him reaching for the band-aid on my neck and removing it.
"The process of removing the venom will not be pleasant but it shouldn't be painful either... at least as far as I know... But, you will most definitely feel very faint right after that, and on top of that, being marked as my Luna certainly will add to that, since you are a human and your body will react differently than a female werewolf's."
He explained in a serious voice.
Huh... feeling faint... is that my brain informing me that it is time to wake up...?
...I really want to cry... I don't want to wake up...!
"Ah...!"
All of a sudden I felt something wet and coarse touch the wounds on my neck and could not hold back a short gasp that was embarrassingly similar to a moan.
"Sorry. Please bear with it."
Lucian whispered apologetically into my ear and licked my neck again... and again...!
I curled my toes and rubbed my knees together...
So... this was this kind of dream after all...!
I burrowed my face in the black fur at the base of Lucian's neck and bit my lips.
Then, all of a sudden I felt all strength leaving my body and my mind began disconnecting from reality... err... the dream... ugh... I... I can't straight... anymore...
"Lucian... don't leave me..."
I managed to cry out in a pitiful voice before I lost consciousness.... or began waking up... or... whatev...er...
