Zephyr was taken aback, not expecting such words from Lin Yan.
"Aren't we just taking a break? Is something happening?"
"Not exactly," Lin Yan replied with a light smile. "Did you read today's newspaper?"
Zephyr's expression turned serious. "Are you referring to Sakazuki and Kuzan?"
"It's always easier with smart people!" Lin Yan couldn't help but smile. It's a leader's pride to have competent subordinates.
"What do you think of this situation?"
Zephyr shook his head gently. "If I had to choose, I would hope for Kuzan to win. Sakazuki is too dangerous for us."
As a member of the Whitebeard Pirates, Zephyr knew Akainu's rise to Fleet Admiral would not be favorable. Lin Yan smiled approvingly; Zephyr understood his place and their group's interests.
"To be honest, I'm planning to recruit Aokiji. I'll need your help; you were his teacher and could be quite influential."
Zephyr was dumbfounded. Recruit Aokiji? That seemed impossible. Zephyr knew his former student well. Aokiji was committed to justice and reforming the Navy. The idea of him joining a pirate crew seemed absurd.
If Lin Yan hadn't accomplished so many improbable things before, Zephyr would have thought he was crazy. Even so, he looked at Lin Yan with a complex expression.
"Lin, this is a delusion. I'm certain Kuzan would never join a pirate crew. Even if I tried, I'd probably just embarrass myself."
Lin Yan, however, remained confident. "What if? Do you have time?"
Zephyr sighed. "I think it's a million-to-one chance." After a moment's thought, he nodded. "Alright, I'll go with you. I could use a change of scenery."
At Marine Headquarters, Marineford...
"Sakazuki, what is the meaning of this?"
On the training ground, Aokiji glared at Akainu. The tension between them had escalated, with Akainu even setting up blockades against him.
The two had completely fallen out. Aokiji couldn't let Akainu become Fleet Admiral, fearing it would be disastrous for everyone. And Akainu clearly wasn't stepping down.
The tension within the Navy was palpable. Aokiji knew they needed to settle this quickly.
"Let's settle this simply," Aokiji said coldly. "Find a place, and let the winner become Fleet Admiral; the loser steps down. Agreed?"
"Just what I wanted!" Akainu grinned fiercely, eager to end the covert battles with a decisive fight.
The final showdown for the Fleet Admiral's position was set, with neither side willing to back down. The news spread quickly, drawing global attention as everyone awaited the outcome of Aokiji versus Akainu.
Lin Yan, closely following the events, tossed aside the newspaper featuring the standoff and turned to a concerned-looking Zephyr.
"The opportunity is here, Zephyr. Let's go!"
Zephyr sighed deeply, conflicted. He had once taught both Akainu and Aokiji. Now, as a pirate, he faced the harsh reality that time changes everything. Akainu and Aokiji, once allies, were now enemies.
"Don't overthink it," Lin Yan said, patting Zephyr's shoulder. "Sometimes, you just have to follow your heart."
