Kapitel 189: Chapter 189: Bringing Her Back

"So, Commander He Kui, you're saying you're bringing someone from DSSD to tour your company?"

"Yes, that's right," He Kui confirmed.

"Of course, no problem," the captain replied, "but we'll need to finalize the necessary paperwork later."

"Of course. I was just about to upload it earlier but got sidetracked."

Though He Kui said it casually, there was a hint of suspicion. How did someone from DSSD end up boarding so suddenly? However, with He Kui's rank, it wasn't out of the question that he might have brought her on board himself. So, the captain didn't dwell on it too much. He Kui was an officer with authority above his own.

"Commander He Kui, why bring her on board so suddenly?"

Unlike the captain, Iron Wall was more direct in his curiosity.

He Kui wasn't fazed, merely responding with a smile all the men around him understood. "Captain Iron Wall, you know how it is."

"…I get it now! Haha!" Iron Wall chuckled knowingly, looping an arm around He Kui's shoulder in camaraderie.

"Commander He Kui, you're quite talented outside of battle and design too—wooing a girl from DSSD, no less!"

"Is it that girl, Serena?"

"No, not her."

"Impressive. Truly impressive."

"It's nothing much. By the way, how's that Coordinator doing?"

"He's in the mess hall, just like you said, without a guard on him."

"You sure that's wise?"

Iron Wall frowned, still clearly unimpressed by the idea of an Orb Coordinator who fought for PLANT's enemies.

"No worries. I've got him under surveillance—he's not causing any trouble."

With that settled, the two of them made their way to He Kui's quarters. Just as Iron Wall was about to leave, a low banging sound came from inside the room.

She was probably just frustrated with the lock.

"Commander He Kui, your little lady seems lively," Iron Wall commented, giving He Kui a cheeky grin.

"Right?"

He Kui forced a smile as he ushered Iron Wall away and opened the door to his quarters.

Inside, he saw Cagalli standing by the door, ready to throw a small owl-shaped drone at him in frustration. It looked like she'd already thrown it once.

He Kui caught it mid-air, feeling a pang of regret. Out of all the things she could throw, why did it have to be the expensive upgraded owl drone?

"Miss Becky, what are you doing…?"

"You locked me in here!" Cagalli huffed, glaring at him indignantly.

"Why did you lock me up?!"

Because you're the Orb princess and currently on a ZAFT battleship. Suppressing his thoughts, He Kui shrugged with a sigh.

"It wasn't safe for you to wander around without your identity sorted out."

Was it his imagination, or did her tone almost sound like a pout?

Glancing at his virtual panel, he noticed her "favorability" score had somehow reached twenty.

What had he done to warrant that?

He mentally reviewed his recent actions and realized he'd only teased her a bit. Perhaps teasing did work as a way to bond.

"So, can I go out now?"

"You can, but Allen is still in the mess hall."

Apparently, their "guest" had genuinely settled in and was enjoying a meal. He Kui suspected this unbothered attitude might be the reason Allen had been chosen as the "guest" in the first place.

"What?! You let him go free, but I'm locked up?! I get worse treatment than a hostage?!"

Cagalli's outrage was apparent.

"For the last time, he's not a hostage—he's a guest," He Kui said, exasperated. "And Miss Becky, you're a stowaway."

At this, Cagalli deflated.

"So even if I get to PLANT, I can't go outside?"

She looked disheartened, realizing it wasn't much different from being confined.

"I'll figure something out," He Kui reassured her. "Where would you like to go?"

"May City!"

Realizing how strong her response was, Cagalli quickly looked away.

"I… I just want to see your workplace. Maybe I could be of help to you."

"Sure."

As long as she avoided the restricted labs, he could arrange it. Cagalli's expression softened into a genuine smile—pure and radiant.

This earnestness even stirred a faint hint of guilt in He Kui.

"We still have some time before we reach PLANT. Why don't you rest?"

"Huh?"

"I have work to do."

He Kui figured she would understand, and he gestured to the files he needed to analyze and compile into reports for DSSD.

"I'll watch you work!"

Watching him work might give her insights into his projects, and she was genuinely curious about ZAFT's research environment.

Without further objection, He Kui let her sit beside him at the table, which was arranged in a round shape with a view of his files. He noticed her proximity, catching a faint scent that was oddly soothing.

Realizing her intentions, he couldn't help but smirk. Having a little "spy" in his daily life might be amusing, after all.
