Kapitel 2: Chapter 2

Jin's eyes opened to a sea of darkness, followed by a piercing headache. The last time this happened, his brain had been trying to puzzle out his jumbled memories, but this time, it was trying to process all the memories he had absorbed. There were hundreds of them, all different from both men and women.

It was a struggle, and Jin writhed on the ground for an unknown amount of time. Finally, his brain managed to somewhat process it all, or maybe it was the everlasting hunger that overcame the pain. Either way, he was now able to at least think properly.

The last thing Jin remembered was losing himself in what he found out was his kakuja state. The memories he had absorbed confirmed that for him. Through repeated cannibalism, a ghoul's kagune could transform to the point that it clads the ghoul's body. It could be something like simple armor or even some kind of monstrous figure.

Jin had faint memories of having some form of armor and of turning into... a monster. There was no other way to describe it, but he wasn't sure exactly how he looked. The only thing he was sure of was that the more he ate, the bigger Jin became, and the more he lost his mind.

The kakuja turned him into a force to be reckoned with, but it also made him a mindless monster. It was a double-edged sword with clear advantages and disadvantages. Jin didn't know what to think of it, but he knew it was the only reason he had survived his trial by fire. That was another thing he would have to find out how to control in the future.

Standing up, Jin spotted the terminal near him, but he also noticed there was an assortment of weapons scattered around him. Most of them were bladed ones, and he was sure he hadn't picked up any with him, so how did they appear there?

"I don't know how big I am in my monster form, so... they were probably stuck in me when the trial ended," he concluded.

Jin shook his head, no point thinking about it too much since he was already feeling hunger. Walking over to the terminal, he was ready to start his new jump and get something else here in his domain. The sea of darkness was in a way peaceful, but he wouldn't mind having a house or something like that.

[Highschool of the Dead: It's your typical zombie apocalypse, but with a twist... lots and lots of beautiful women, the "Outbreak" starts in offshore city Tokonosu with Fujimi Academy and its students being the center of it all. It will take no more than a few days before 90% of the human population gets turned into zombies.]

Jin narrowed his eyes. Again, he was sure he had heard of this Highschool of the Dead, but he wasn't entirely sure about that. Jin didn't think about it too much since his stomach was rumbling. Briefly, he wondered if he would be able to eat zombies, but he didn't put too much thought into that. Clicking on the terminal, Jin started preparing for his jump.

This world, for all intents and purposes, shouldn't be too hard for him. Jin didn't know for sure how strong he was, but he knew zombies wouldn't stand a chance against him. He would pick only Perks that will be beneficial for his future and save as many points as possible.

The background Jin selected was a drop-in as there was no point in having an identity in an apocalyptic world. He got the option to chose his starting point and picked Fujimi Academy. Next, Jin moved over to the Perks and quickly made his choices.

[Pureblood(-500): Your blood is as pure as it gets. Mundane and even extraordinary ailments like illnesses and diseases have no effect on you. You never get sick, and even the zombie virus has no effect on you, plus you are immune to most poisons.]

That was a no-brainer, even though it was costly. Becoming immune to most poisons and diseases could serve Jin tremendously in his future. The next Perk he chose was also a no-brainer in his eyes.

[Genius(-300): Your brain doesn't work like any other, and few could match your thinking capabilities, with an IQ of 150, you can quickly absorb and process information. While others might take a long time to find a solution to a problem, you can do it in seconds.]

A few more Perks caught his eye, but he ignored them for a moment to check what disadvantages he could choose and his Scenario for the world.

[Sanctuary: Gather a group and find a place you can call your safe haven, you have to make sure that it's protected from zombies and has a constant source of food and water. Your goal is to survive one year with a group of at least five more people.

Reward: The safe haven and your group will be added to your budding Universe.]

There were a few other Scenarios that interested Jin, but he chose that one. The one about liberating a city of all of its zombies and protecting it for two years seemed interesting, but in his opinion, it was just too much work.

[BBB(+350): Zombies are bigger, better, and... bossier? The zombies were supposed as strong as regular humans, but the virus mutated and made them more powerful. They are twice as strong as normal humans, and sometimes they mutate even further.]

[Evolution(+400): The zombies will evolve over time and grow stronger with each day they are alive. Depending on how many people a zombie has eaten, they might even become smarter, so watch out.]

There was an option about making the zombie virus affect animals as well, but he refused to pick that one. More than likely, animals will be his only meat source, even if he could potentially eat zombies due to his Pureblood Perk. Jin was pretty sure they wouldn't taste good. Turning back to the Perks, he quickly selected those that caught his eyes.

[Charismatic Leader(-250): You have an unnatural charm that draws people to you and makes them like you. Others are more likely to listen to what you say and follow your orders.]

[Harem Lord(-250): Polygamous relationships are usually looked down upon, but not when it comes to you. When people look at you, they think, "Yep, it's natural that he has more than one woman." Women will be drawn to you and have no issue with you being in a relationship with more than one and will even expect that from you.]

With those two Perks, Jin shouldn't have a lot of trouble collecting a small group and leading them to a safe place.

[Adaptability(-250): Humans are known for their adaptability, but you are something else. Your body adapts to the situation at hand and will require less food, water, and sleep than usual.]

It was a good Perk, but the only reason Jin picked it was due to his everlasting hunger. Hopefully, this will make it better for him.

With that, Jin was pretty much done, and he even managed to save 200 points for his next time. He was about to hit start, but he decided to quickly go through the Items section just in case.

"Well... this will be useful."

Jin was glad he checked because there were a dozen free Items for him to pick, though it was mostly because he already had them at hand as they were the weapons scattered around him.

[Beef(Free): A bikaku-type quinque that resembles a guard-less katana.]

Quinques are weapons created by harvesting a ghoul's kagune and are superior to normal ones. This one should serve him well, and Jin recognized it as he had the memories of the one who wielded it. Mizurou Tamaki had been an expert swordsman, and Jin had all of his techniques now.

He also picked a school uniform his size since he was currently stark naked. This way, Jin shouldn't look too out of place in the school and quickly gather his small group with many issues.

After double-checking his selection one more time, he nodded to himself and clicked on start. Jin used the one hour for preparation to do a few practice swings with Beef, getting used to his empowered body.

However, Jin spent most of that time studying his new kagune. The way he felt it, it was covered around his entire spine, and he had no problem using all four types. With a light flex, a wide red tail came out of his lower back, bikaku. His light blue tentacles erupted from just above it, rinkaku. The purple koukaku came out from his shoulder blades and covered his arms, and finally, a pair of blue wings came out from above that.

Jin was pretty sure he looked monstrous with his kagune fully released, but frankly, he didn't care. He had both the Charismatic Leader and Harem Lord Perks, so at the very least, women should like him even if they saw his current appearance.

Jin felt like he could push his kagune even further, but that will lead to him turning into a true monster. For the time being, his kakuja state was something he would use only as a last resort until he finds a way how to control it.

Like the last time, Jin blacked out for a moment before he appeared in an empty classroom. The apocalypse had already started, judging by the screams he heard coming from the school hallways, so he quickly left the room.

"Help me!!" A thin man, wearing a black pinstripe suit, shouted as he ran towards him. He was being chased by two hulking figures that stood at about two and a half meters tall with thick limbs that would make body-builders look weak.

Jin took a few steps towards the zombies and slashed with Beef. With two quick and precise hits, he decapitated them both with ease.

Mizurou Tamaki, the previous owner of Beef, had been an expert swordsman. He had killed numerous ghouls with the katana, but he had been just a regular human. Having to face off against creatures that were at least four times as strong as him, Tamaki had created a style meant to kill ghouls as quickly as possible. Jin had all of Tamaki's memories and knew how to wield the weapon to perfection, and that's not even counting his Weapons Prodigy Perk.

"Thank you..." the man began, but he didn't get the chance to say anything else. A tentacle came out of Jin's back and pierced the man through his stomach before bringing him closer. The last thing the teacher saw was one piercing green eye and one blood-red one staring at him emotionlessly.

Even with the Adaptability Perk, Jin's stomach rumbled in hunger, and he got to work. The man could've potentially been one of his group, but there were a few problems with that.

One, he was male, and Jin planned on recruiting only females. If he was going to spend one year with a group, they might as well be women that were pleasing to look at. Otherwise, he didn't know if he could stop himself from eating them.

Two, Jin didn't like the look of the man's slimy yellow eyes. There was something off about them, so he made the decision of killing him without hesitation.

A moment later, there was nothing left of the man Jin now knew was named Koichi Shido. His Gluttony Incarnate Perk had luckily triggered, and he had absorbed all of his memories. Being a teacher, Shido knew his way around the school, so Jin knew where his next destination was. After cracking his neck left and right, he turned around, making his way down the hall.

On the way, Jin dispatched any zombies that dared cross his path. They were at least twice as strong as regular humans, but he was something else even more powerful. He also kept looking around for any possible recruits, preferably women, as he walked down the hallway.

Jin spotted two students, one male and one female, running from a group of zombies. The short and overweight boy stumbled and got caught by the zombies. He got bit before Jin could even help him, not that he was going to do it in the first place.

The girl was running as quickly as she could, but the zombies were gaining on her. She looked as if she was about to get caught like the boy, but Jin made his move.

He recognized her from Shido's memories as Saya Takagi. She was a somewhat short girl with long pink hair tied into two ponytails on either side of her head. She had orange eyes, and a pair of glasses adorned her pretty face, but her most eyecatching feature was her large bust. Those breasts definitely weren't supposed to be on a teenage girl, but Jin wasn't complaining.

Saya was scared for her life, knowing that the four zombies were just behind her. She wasn't very athletic, and she was sure they were gaining on her as she almost felt them reaching out for her. This wasn't how she imagined her life ending. Saya was a genius with a bright future ahead of her, but it seemed the world had other plans for her.

Suddenly, Saya heard a thud behind her, followed by another shortly after. Risking a peek, she looked back, only to see someone who looked to be a couple years older than her decapitating the zombies with a katana in hand. He was much taller than her, standing at about one meter and eighty-five centimeters with an athletic body that looked like a swimmer's. He had short black hair with high cheekbones and handsome features, but it was his eyes that caught her attention, one green like an emerald and the other red like a ruby. Oh, and he also cut apart the zombies as if they were made out of paper with his katana.

"No time for gawking. We have to get out of here," Jin said, but he looked her up and down. She was wearing a white and green uniform with a very short skirt, and he enjoyed the view. His stomach also rumbled in appreciation, but it was for a different reason.

"A-ah, yes, you are right," Saya said, regaining some composure. She was still scared for her life, but she felt much safer now after seeing Jin kill the zombies.

"The school will soon be overflown with zombies. We have to leave quickly," Jin said and started walking ahead, confident that she would follow after him, and she did.

"I-if the situation is like this here, t-then it will be the same outside. It will be dangerous, but maybe if we had some sort of transport..." Saya said, her brain already working out a way to escape.

"Correct. That's why we are going to the faculty room. The keys for the school minibus should be there."

That had been Shido's plan of escape. Unfortunately, the slimy teacher had no way of reaching the faculty room with all the zombies running around. Jin, on the other hand, had no such problem. Any zombies that crossed their path were cut down in seconds with his katana.

Saya watched him with awe. She had seen the zombies tear apart other students, yet here was someone that was butchering them as if they were chicken. Her hope for survival steadily increased as she watched him work.

"W-who are you?" Saya weakly asked him. He was wearing the school uniform, but she had never seen him before, which was weird. Not only did he have one hell of a body, but he also looked handsome. For all intents and purposes, he should be famous in their school.

"I'm Jin," he answered as he cut down another zombie.

Saya frowned, trying to remember if she had heard of him, but she didn't recognize his name.

"I'm Saya Takagi," she said in a moment.

"I know," Jin replied simply, making her swell with pride. Of course, he would know who she was. Not only was she a known genius, but she was also the daughter of a renowned politician. Thinking about her father, she started worrying about her family. They should be safe in their house, protected by their many guards... but she had seen what those zombies were capable of.

A lone tear dropped from Saya's orange eye as she started imagining the worst. Looking at Jin slaughtering the zombies that crossed their path, she started feeling hopeful.

'Maybe if we get to them quickly, we... he can save them,' Saya just hoped they survived until then.
