Kapitel 72: Lin vs Calamity Being 1
"Humanoid, hardened brownish red scales with cracked skin and yellowish liquid in the cracks, crown shaped head, that must be him, the second calamity being." In the foliage of a tree in a jungle, Lin watched as the calamity being searched for him.
"I got a message that I would meet one of them. This must be him, then. But how did they even get into the bout?" Lin wondered and quickly realised the calamity being had disappeared from his view.
"Above?" Lin moved out of the foliage and landed before a palm plant. The tree he jumped from was immediately covered in lava, burning it to crisp.
"I didn't think you would notice that." the calamity being said, tilting his head to one side. "I have to be careful. Green was killed by one of these guys. They are stronger than we anticipated, but it doesn't matter. This was just a side job anyway. The real reason we came here was to infect the beast in this land, which we did as soon as we arrived."
"Who wouldn't notice such obvious bloodlust?" Lin asked. He stretched a hand as black fire laced it and took a battle stance. The calamity being poked his head and said with a smirk, "We meet again, son of that family."
Lin frowned behind his mask when he heard that. He had never met the calamity being before, so it was a bit bizarre to hear him say that. However, a thought popped up, and Lin thought it may be possible. "You were the one who possessed that Reiko guy?" he asked.
"Bingo! At least you are not slow to catch on. So let me say this now. With how pathetic you fight, you can beat me", he said and jumped from where he was as black fire razed the place.
"Whoa, whoa, whoa, take it easy, I wasn't done talking", the calamity being said, landing on a branch. Without any hesitation, Lin was already behind him, ready to blast him with flames again, however, the calamity being blocked it and flung Lin away.
"I made sure to hide my presence as best as I could, so how did he find me?" Lin wondered as he landed on the ground, skidding to a stop.
"This will be easier than I thought", the calamity being said and took out the two daggers strapped to his waist, dashing at Lin up front, slashing at him. Lin took out his spear to block, but surprisingly, the calamity being disappeared from before him as he felt his back sting. He was cleanly cut as blood flowed from his wound. Before he could make a decision, he was slashed on the shoulder.
The calamity being kept sashing Lin, who was defenceless. "What the hell is this? I see him in front of me, then before I know it, he is behind me?" Lin put up his guard and surrounded his body with a thin layer of flames as protection.
"You thought you could beat me? Think again. Once you can't touch me, your chances of winning are non-existent." The calamity being mocked as he kept slashing Lin.
"I want to use my lightning to end it now, but I feel doing that won't be a good idea now. He seems to be confusing my senses in some way. Once I figure that out, beating him shouldn't be difficult." Lin stood as he kept being slashed.
"Ugh! This is getting boring. This is the end", the calamity being declared and slashed Lin from behind. "Kekekeke, he probably feels me coming from behind, but before he realises where I really am, his head will have my dagger buried in it", the calamity being laughed secretly.
Lin stepped aside as the dagger was an inch above his head and grabbed it. "What!?" The calamity being was flustered. "You were right, this is getting boring", Lin said and blasted him away with his flames. The calamity being crashed into the ground, sending dust into the air.
The audience watching from across Terasphere roared as they saw the calamity being being blasted away, though they had no idea what he was. They were simply excited because their favourite broke out of a tough spot.
"I thought he was a goner", someone in the audience said.
"Yeah, me too. It seemed the Lightning Inferno Sovereign couldn't see where his opponent was at all, even though we could. Do you think it is some sort of skill?" one asked.
"Who knows? Maybe, maybe not. All I can say is this year's bout presents some strong quints." Another replied. Various discussions went on as Lin fought.
"Surprised? I'm sure this mind game began when you got me to register your bloodlust. I don't know how you do it, but I know you present your bloodlust in some way while hiding behind that to attack me without me noticing since my focus will be directed at where your bloodlust is coming from. Am I wrong?"
"Tch!" the calamity being frowned as he glared at Lin. "How did he figure it out? Of course, his explanation is not far from the actual, but how did he figure it out so quickly?"
"Seeing that look on your face, I must be right then. Now, where were we?" Lin said and dashed at him with a punch. The calamity being launched straight at him, but a lightning orb appeared behind Lin and exploded a few inches from his back.
The calamity being, which appeared to have been before him, was now behind and was blown away by the explosion. "You must think the first time was a bluff. Does this etch it into your brain? You can't touch me with that move again. Give it up." Lin went for him again, blasting him with flames, but a wall of lava rose and blocked his attack.
"Good choice", Lin said, pulling out his spear again. "Time to get serious", he said as lightning flashed across his eyes.
The calamity being gritted its teeth and glared at Lin, "I guess I just have to fight you head-on then", he said, shooting lava daggers at Lin. Lin used his spear to block them all, and the two clashed weapons, however, as soon as the dagger touched Lin's spear, a jolt of lighting blasted the calamity being away.
He crashed into a few trees before coming to a stop. "You seem weaker than that Reiko guy you possessed. You might have stood a better chance a few days ago, but now, there's not much you can do." Lin sneered.
"He is right. Getting close is not a good idea, meaning I must rely solely on ranged attacks. I will overwhelm him with ranged attacks and sneak in and kill him while he deals with them." The calamity being decided, and shot balls of lava and arrows at Lin.
He created lava golems and beasts to attack Lin while looking for a chance to launch a sneak attack. As he thought, with the huge number of attacks he was dealing with, Lin was being pushed back. "So, this is his plan. To tire me out with these things? Then I just have to blast through them." Lin made a large orb of lightning and shot it into the midst of the lava figures.
It exploded and destroyed them as he took off after the calamity being. The calamity being sighed, seeing him approach, "I thought I might finish this as is, but it looks like I have no choice but to use that…" Lin stopped in his tracks and retreated as the calamity being's eyes turned black and red. It began to emit a strange aura as it grew twice in size, and its skin became thicker than it was.
All of Lin's cells screamed danger as he stared at the calamity being. He retreated a few meters and watched it from the distance. "What is this ominous aura?" Lin wondered. "So, it wasn't going all out? No, it's different. It feels more like he is going berserk, like a beast."
"I won't have time to prepare the lightning skill now. This would be difficult." Lin didn't move and just watched as the calamity being transformed.
"No one has survived after seeing me in this form. Now, let's see how well you can hold up, HUMAN!" the calamity being declared, taking a step towards Lin.
