Kapitel 451: I Don't Want To End Up Like Simon

Maisie was simply repeating Damien's words back to him but she meant it. No one should have to bear that kind of pain. She would put a stop to this no matter what. 

"Try not to do that to me though. I don't want to end up like Simon," he said in an unfathomable tone as he placed a hand on her head, making her heart skip a beat. What did he mean he didn't want to end up like Simon? 

No one had cursed them. No one even knew what happened yet. 

"How?" she asked curiously. 

"Familiars aren't supposed to outlive their witches. He told me about that once. In a normal situation, they only live as long as the witch does because the magic extended their lifespans and it isn't active anymore. If you die before my natural lifespan is up, I'm going to be left with a hole that nothing can fill." 

"…are you sure that isn't because he loves her?"
