The sun was rising, casting a warm golden glow over the gates of Konoha Village as Kirito and TenTen began their journey.
"Are you sure you don't want me to carry some of your things?" TenTen asked, eyeing Kirito's small travel bag.
Kirito shook his head with a faint smile. "No need. This is supposed to feel like an adventure."
"Alright then!" TenTen replied, excitement sparkling in her eyes. She carried nothing but a large scroll securely fastened to her waist.
"Destination: the Land of Waves!" she declared, her voice brimming with enthusiasm as she led the way out of the village.
Their pace was leisurely, allowing them to enjoy the scenery and stop at various small towns along the way. Unlike the rigorous speed training under Guy-sensei's supervision, this trip offered them a rare chance to explore.
Every small town had something unique to offer, from bustling marketplaces to quiet weapon shops. TenTen couldn't resist browsing the stores for unusual tools and weapons, even if they were not ninja-grade.
In one shop, she picked up a "J"-shaped weapon and turned to Kirito. "What do you think this is for?"
Kirito examined it with mild curiosity. "Fishing?"
"Fishing?!" TenTen exclaimed, laughing. "How would you use something this massive for fishing?"
"Big fish need big hooks," Kirito replied with a straight face, earning a playful shove from TenTen.
She twirled the weapon in her hands. "This is actually a trap hook used for catching large beasts. In areas where ninja aren't available, hunters would use these hooks to ensnare prey like bears or tigers. The hook is tied to a rope, and they exhaust the animal's strength before delivering the final blow."
"Impressive knowledge," Kirito said, genuinely impressed.
TenTen grinned. "What can I say? Weapons are my specialty!"
At night, they stayed in small inns, where TenTen would plan the next day's route while Kirito refined his chakra. He had been experimenting with a new combination of chakra natures, searching for the right balance to create a unique bloodline limit. The journey's slower pace gave him time to refine his understanding and techniques.
After several days of travel, they arrived at a port on the eastern coast of the Land of Fire. Across the sea lay the Land of Waves, with a towering structure connecting it to the mainland.
"Is that... a bridge?" TenTen asked, shading her eyes as she looked into the distance.
Kirito nodded. "The Great Naruto Bridge," he said. "It was built to connect the Land of Waves to the rest of the world. It's a symbol of their resilience and Naruto's influence."
He briefly recounted the events of Team Seven's mission in the Land of Waves, including their battle against Zabuza Momochi and Haku.
TenTen's eyes lit up. "Zabuza's Executioner's Blade... Do you think it's still there?"
"Only one way to find out," Kirito replied.
They hired a boatman to ferry them across the sea. Guided by Kirito's Byakugan, they located Zabuza and Haku's graves on a quiet, forested hill. The Executioner's Blade stood planted in the ground before Zabuza's resting place.
After a moment of respectful silence, TenTen approached the blade and examined it closely. The massive sword was as imposing as its reputation suggested.
"The Executioner's Blade can repair itself by absorbing the iron in blood," Kirito explained. "Even if it's broken, it regenerates."
"Incredible," TenTen murmured, her fingers tracing the blade's edge. "How do you know so much about it?"
Kirito shrugged. "Naruto mentioned it over ramen once. It's one of the most famous swords in ninja history."
After admiring it for a while, TenTen carefully placed the blade back into the ground.
"Not interested in keeping it?" Kirito asked.
"It's too heavy for me, and it belongs here," TenTen replied. "It's more than just a weapon—it's part of their story."
Kirito smiled. "Well said."
The duo spent a night in the Land of Waves as guests of Tazuna, the bridge's chief architect, and his grandson Inari. They shared stories about Naruto and the Chunin exams, which left Tazuna and Inari inspired and determined to continue their efforts to improve the Land of Waves.
The following day, with Tazuna's help, they secured a boat to take them to the trench.
As they approached the trench's location, the old boatman steering their vessel spoke up. "This trench used to be a prime fishing spot, but things changed when Hidden Mist fell into chaos. Anyone who got too close was treated as an intruder and killed."
"Was it the Mist ninja?" TenTen asked.
The boatman shook his head. "No one knows. Could've been rogue ninja or criminals hiding out."
"That's a lot to worry about," TenTen muttered, glancing at Kirito.
"If anyone tries to stop us, they'll regret it," Kirito said confidently.
The boatman chuckled nervously but seemed reassured by their determination.
Reaching the trench, TenTen unrolled a scroll and began summoning large metal discs engraved with summoning formulas. Each disc was made of a corrosion-resistant material and could withstand the trench's crushing pressure.
"Throwing them in now," TenTen announced, carefully releasing the discs into the water. Kirito monitored their descent with his Byakugan, ensuring they reached the trench's depths.
"Done!" TenTen said, stretching with relief.
"Most of the discs landed where we wanted, except for two that were carried away by currents and one swallowed by a whale," Kirito reported.
"Not bad," TenTen said. "I can't wait to test the results tomorrow."
As they prepared to head back, Kirito suddenly turned toward the stern of the boat, his expression sharp.
"Wait," he said. "We've got company."
