Kapitel 46: Chapter 46: The Clash in the Mist
As Kirito led Naruto and the others to track Sasuke, his shadow clone arrived at the auditorium where TenTen was battling.
TenTen, fully alert, was fighting off a small group of Otogakure ninjas. She unrolled a scroll and launched kunai and shuriken with expert precision, deftly avoiding harm to the sleeping audience. Despite being outnumbered, her accuracy and composure gave her the upper hand.
The intensity of the fight wasn't as high as in other areas due to the lack of high-level jonin like Guy or Kakashi. Only three or four Otonin were present, focusing solely on TenTen.
Kirito wasted no time. With precise movements, he froze and shattered the remaining Sound ninjas, swiftly neutralizing the threat.
"TenTen, are you okay?" Kirito asked, lowering his guard.
"I'm fine," TenTen replied, catching her breath. Still tense, she glanced toward the other side of the auditorium. "What's going on? How are Guy-sensei and Rock Lee?"
"Lee's been put to sleep by a genjutsu. Guy-sensei and Kakashi are holding off attacks from Sound ninjas near the Hokage viewing platform," Kirito explained. He pointed toward the roof where a purple barrier shimmered ominously. "Orochimaru has trapped the Third Hokage inside that barrier, and the village walls have been breached by a three-headed snake heading for the center of the village."
"Isn't that basically a war?" TenTen asked, wide-eyed.
Kirito nodded. "Close enough. This attack has been planned for a long time, but the village was prepared. Ninjas have been split into three groups: one to fight the attackers, one to escort civilians to safety, and the rest to patrol for additional threats. Once the evacuation is complete, all available forces will join the battle."
TenTen sighed in relief. "At least the village is prepared. That's a relief."
Meanwhile, inside the barrier, Orochimaru's sinister plan was unfolding. Using the Reanimation Jutsu, he had summoned the coffins of the First and Second Hokage.
"Here," TenTen said, glancing at the sleeping audience. She patted the little leopard on her shoulder. "If it hadn't nudged me earlier, I'd probably be asleep like them. You came here for this, right?"
"Yeah," Kirito replied, taking the leopard and settling it on his shoulder. "I also wanted to check on you."
"What should we do next? Should we support Guy-sensei?" TenTen asked, glancing toward the distant battlefield.
Before Kirito could respond, a figure in a dark cloak and an Anbu mask stepped forward, cutting them off.
"You won't be going anywhere," the man said. "Even as a shadow clone, you're dangerous."
"Shadow clone?" TenTen looked at Kirito in surprise. "You're just a clone?"
"The real me is tracking Sasuke with Kakashi's team," Kirito explained. Turning to the stranger, he said, "You're Kabuto, aren't you?"
Kabuto smirked. "As expected of the prodigy who graduated early from the Academy. I've underestimated you."
Kabuto explained that his role as Orochimaru's spy included monitoring promising Konoha shinobi, including Kirito. Initially, Kirito's exile from the Hyuga clan and his apparent focus on taijutsu made Kabuto dismiss him as insignificant. Kabuto had shifted his focus entirely to Sasuke, the chosen vessel for Orochimaru's ambitions.
But Kirito's display of Ice Release during the Chunin Exams had shattered Kabuto's assumptions. This unforeseen strength made Kirito a dangerous variable in Orochimaru's plan, and Kabuto was determined to eliminate him.
"I may not be able to beat you alone," Kabuto admitted. "But..."
With a wave of his hand, several Sound ninjas emerged from the shadows, flanking him.
"TenTen, step back," Kirito instructed calmly. "I don't want you getting caught in this."
TenTen unfolded her scroll. "I'm not running away. I'll provide support from here."
One of the Sound ninjas launched a barrage of kunai at Kirito. He deflected the attack effortlessly, erecting an ice wall to block the incoming projectiles.
"Fire Release: Fireball Jutsu!" another ninja shouted, hurling fireballs at the ice wall.
The collision between fire and ice produced a thick mist that enveloped the entire auditorium. The sleeping audience remained untouched, but the mist created a significant blind spot.
[They're trying to limit my Ice Release,] Kirito thought. He realized the mist would spread the cold indiscriminately, potentially harming the audience if he used large-scale techniques.
Hidden within the fog, the Sound ninjas used their enhanced hearing to pinpoint Kirito's location.
"Barrier Formation!" two Sound ninjas stationed at opposite corners of the auditorium created a barrier to trap Kirito.
TenTen, pushed outside the barrier by Kirito, fought off two Sound ninjas trying to reach her.
Inside the barrier, Kirito sighed. [A trap designed to limit my power. Fine, I'll work with it.]
He summoned two black rods from his palms, cutting through the kunai aimed at him. Moving swiftly, he plunged the rods into the necks of two nearby ninjas, eliminating them instantly.
The remaining ninjas retreated into the mist, but Kirito's Byakugan kept their movements in focus. One by one, he dispatched them with precise strikes.
Outside the barrier, Kabuto watched the battle. "His taijutsu is impressive, but this barrier isn't something he can break. He's just a shadow clone, after all. Once he's exhausted, he'll disappear."
As Kabuto pondered his next move, two black spikes suddenly pierced the barrier from within, impaling the two Sound ninjas maintaining it.
"What?!" Kabuto exclaimed as the barrier shattered.
The mist began to clear, revealing Kirito's imposing figure. The black rods in his hands shrank as he approached Kabuto.
"This isn't good!" Kabuto turned to flee, but Kirito was faster.
With a single kick, Kirito sent Kabuto crashing through a guardrail, freezing him into an ice sculpture mid-air.
As the frozen Kabuto shattered into smoke, revealing it was only a shadow clone, Kirito smirked. "Calling me stupid? You're the one who sent a clone."
TenTen approached cautiously, still on guard. "Are they gone?"
Kirito nodded. "Yeah. Let's head to the next location."
TenTen glanced at him and smiled. "Thanks for having my back."
Kirito adjusted the leopard on his shoulder and replied with a grin, "Always."
