Chapter 106: The Golden Lion's Plan

Rocks scanned the crowd with his fierce eyes and was very satisfied with the performance of the squad leaders under the captains.

However, after seeing the six captains, Rocks frowned. Each of them wore a sullen expression, lost in their own thoughts. Even Ochoku, John, and Silver Axe—his three long-standing allies who had followed him in his conquests—seemed to harbor ulterior motives.

This sight made Rocks furious. But he suppressed his anger with his formidable self-control.

Just wait! Just wait! Rocks thought to himself. When I control the King of Heaven and become the ruler of this world, none of you will escape my wrath.

Each of the six captains had their own agendas, but the most troubling to Rocks were Edward Newgate, the Whitebeard, and Shiki, the Golden Lion. Their expressions of dissatisfaction were particularly glaring.

Whitebeard frowned, his mind weighed down with worry. Over the past few months, he had found his purpose in life by adopting orphaned children. Their calls of "Dad" filled his heart with joy and gave him a sense of belonging.

I didn't even want to come this time, Whitebeard sighed inwardly. But refusing Rocks outright would only bring disaster to the children. Let this be the last time I help him. After this war, I'll leave the crew and pursue my dream of creating a family.

Unlike Whitebeard's inner conflict, Shiki, the Golden Lion, openly displayed his disdain. His face practically screamed rebellion. He was just waiting for someone else—likely Whitebeard—to make the first move.

Shiki smirked inwardly. Once Whitebeard makes his intentions clear, I'll immediately ally with him. And with Charlotte, who owes me a favor, we'll have enough power to overthrow Rocks.

Shiki dismissed the other captains. To him, Charlotte Linlin was just a woman obsessed with childbirth, and Ochoku, John, and Silver Axe were aging relics of the past.

"Alright! You can all go back now. This meeting is over," Rocks finally said, waving them away.

The captains hesitated, waiting for their peers to stand first before moving. To Rocks, this was nothing short of blatant defiance.

When did my orders become less effective than those of the captains? Rocks fumed inwardly. His patience was wearing thin, but he held his composure.

Little did he realize that his repeated tolerance was only emboldening their defiance.

The six captains exited the hall first, followed by the squad leaders. Rodney Carter, representing Charlotte, lagged behind, unwilling to walk alongside the powerful figures.

Outside, Carter found himself face-to-face with Shiki, the Golden Lion, whose towering figure and sharp eyes made his presence overwhelming.

"What's the matter, Lord Shiki?" Carter asked cautiously, swallowing hard.

Shiki exhaled a puff of smoke, his piercing gaze fixed on Carter.

"Do you know when your captain will return?" Shiki asked.

Carter blinked, relieved that the question was about his captain. "Master Shiki, Captain Charlotte should return within the month. He escaped from the admiral just yesterday and is likely on Fishman Island now."

Shiki frowned slightly. Charlotte better make it back in time, he thought.

"Tell your captain not to forget the favor he owes me," Shiki said before walking away without another word.

As Shiki disappeared, Carter released a deep breath. The Golden Lion's presence was suffocating. He quickly returned to his camp, eager to relay the encounter to his captain—unaware that Charlotte was currently unconscious.

Onboard Charlotte's ship, chaos erupted as their captain collapsed on the deck.

"Charlotte!" Elena cried, rushing to his side. She cradled his battered body, her voice trembling with worry.

Two ship doctors hurried over, quickly examining Charlotte. Their faces darkened as they checked his pulse and injuries, their silence alarming the crew.

"What's wrong with the boss?!" Paul shouted, grabbing one doctor by the collar.

The doctor flailed helplessly. "Wait! Let us explain!"

The other doctor chimed in, "The captain is fine! He's just exhausted and has minor injuries. He'll recover with a few days of rest!"

Paul's grip loosened, relief washing over him. "Then why the hell were you shaking your heads?!"

"We didn't find anything seriously wrong, that's all!" the doctor protested, his voice tinged with frustration.

Hearing this, Elena's tears of worry turned into quiet relief. She silently vowed to stay by Charlotte's side until he fully recovered.

Back on Beehive Island, Rocks sat alone, brooding in his chamber.

Let them doubt me all they want. Once I have the King of Heaven in my grasp, they'll all bow before me.

Far away, Whitebeard stared at the horizon, dreaming of a peaceful life with his children, while Shiki sharpened his blades, ready to strike at the first opportunity.

Unbeknownst to Rocks, rebellion was already brewing.
