With a "strike first" mentality, Konan made the first move. Her body turned into countless paper fragments, shooting toward Tobi.
A familiar move that had proven effective many times before.
Tobi activated Kamui, allowing the paper fragments to pass through his body harmlessly.
Clearly, these attacks had no effect on him.
From the way the battle was progressing, it was evident that while Konan had Kage-level strength, she was completely being overpowered by Tobi.
Watching the illusionary battle unfold, Konan was astonished. She wasn't surprised that she was being overwhelmed, but why was she still standing there, waiting for Tobi's attack, knowing she couldn't win? That wasn't like her.
Just as Konan was puzzling over her illusionary self's actions, the fight in the illusion paused. After a few more words were exchanged, Konan in the illusion made a hand gesture, and the sea beneath them split apart!
It turned out that what they had believed to be the sea during their battle wasn't actually water.
What appeared to be an endless ocean was, in reality, a cleverly disguised trap created using Shikigami no Mai (Dance of the Shikigami), an A-rank ninjutsu that allowed Konan to turn paper into any object she desired. This technique could mimic not only solid ground but also flowing water.
The technique was so intricate that even the Sharingan couldn't detect it.
Konan had disguised countless explosive tags as an ocean. Tobi hadn't realized this until the "sea" split open beneath him, and without the ability to fly, he began to fall.
"Explosive tags? All of this is made of explosive tags?" Now falling into the abyss, Tobi finally realized the true nature of the trap, his voice filled with concern.
"I've set this trap specifically to kill you," Konan said from above, looking down at Tobi as he fell. "I know your ability has a limit of five minutes."
"But I've prepared 600 billion explosive tags for you, capable of continuously exploding for ten minutes!"
"You're going to die!"
As her words echoed, the 600 billion explosive tags began to detonate.
Boom!
The explosion was relentless, an overwhelming cascade of detonations, continuing for a full ten minutes.
600 billion explosive tags in total. Even over ten minutes, that meant that millions were exploding every second.
Ten minutes equates to 600 seconds.
That meant every second, 1 billion explosive tags were detonating at once!
The destructive force was akin to the continuous detonation of nuclear weapons over ten minutes.
The earth-shattering power, with 1 billion explosive tags exploding every second, was truly world-shattering.
"One billion explosive tags every second!" Akira calculated the cost of this insane onslaught and couldn't help but gasp.
"Even at half price, each explosive tag costs 1,000 ryo."
"That means every second of this massive explosion is costing 1 trillion ryo!"
"…"
Akira marveled at the sheer cost of this 600 billion explosive tag assault, utterly stunned. Compared to Konan's wealth, Akira's own earnings were like comparing an ant to a skyscraper. Even he, who had seen plenty, was blown away by the spectacle.
Naturally, seeing it for the first time herself, Konan was left speechless by the scale of her own trap.
The extravagance… it was simply unimaginable.
To kill Tobi, she had prepared 600 billion explosive tags?
Such an extravagant plan—was this really her doing?
If Deidara had seen this battle with 600 billion explosive tags, he would have knelt before her and sung her praises, wouldn't he?
Deidara, throughout his life, had pursued what he called "art," but his definition of art was centered on explosions.
Yet, could his explosions even compare to this spectacle of 600 billion explosive tags?
Even Deidara's final explosion—where he sacrificed his life in his ultimate art—was nothing compared to the destruction Konan had unleashed with these billion-tag explosions.
In essence, no matter how much effort Deidara put into his ultimate move, it couldn't hold a candle to Konan's vast resources. That was the difference between sheer effort and pure wealth.
Konan gazed at the ongoing explosions, utterly stunned at the magnitude of her own preparations. She had really set up 600 billion explosive tags to ambush Tobi?
Given that Tobi's intangibility limit was five minutes, and her explosion would last ten minutes, he should be dead for sure, right?
But… why did Akira say this would lead to her death?
"Unbelievable… With this situation, could Tobi actually survive? This is 600 billion explosive tags!" Konan wondered, still trying to make sense of it all.
Theoretically, Tobi should have no chance of survival.
But Akira had said this would be her downfall. That made no sense.
How could Tobi survive 600 billion explosive tags?
Boom!
The horrifying chain of explosions, comparable to nuclear detonations, continued for the full ten minutes. Finally, the explosion subsided.
"Did I finally get him?" In the illusion, Konan watched the explosions go on for the full ten minutes, confident that Tobi had not escaped the blast zone. She finally breathed a sigh of relief.
But at that moment, a spiraling vortex of space-time appeared before her.
Tobi reappeared behind her.
His mask was damaged, revealing part of the Sharingan underneath. His eyes burned with cold fury.
Although Konan sensed the disturbance behind her, it was too late to evade.
Tobi subdued her, and with his Sharingan, he cast a genjutsu to extract the location of Nagato's body from her mind.
Having obtained what he needed, Tobi killed Konan.
Her body lay motionless on the ground. As her life faded, a single red paper fragment floated into the air, gently flying toward a small wooden house where it adhered to a name written inside.
Perhaps this was Konan's final wish, or maybe, to her, the happiest time of her life had been when she, Nagato, and Yahiko had trained here under Jiraiya.
With that, the illusion ended, and Akira released his Sharingan genjutsu.
Konan stood there, visibly shaken.
On the one hand, she had just witnessed her own death, which stirred powerful emotions within her.
On the other hand, seeing her final wish come true—her red paper fragment finding its way to her name—stirred bittersweet feelings of peace and regret.
"Why?" Konan asked after a long pause, looking at Akira with confusion. "Tobi's intangibility limit is five minutes. How did he survive a ten-minute explosion?"
"Izanagi. It's a forbidden Uchiha technique that sacrifices a Sharingan to turn any unfavorable outcome into an illusion, even death itself," Akira explained.
"I see…" Konan muttered, finally understanding.
That's why, despite the continuous ten-minute explosion, Tobi had survived.
Now, more than ever, Konan felt regret.
If she had just extended the explosion time to fifteen or even twenty minutes, Tobi would have been dead for sure.
Thinking about it, Konan couldn't help but feel an overwhelming sense of regret.
Just by slightly altering the duration of the explosion, she could have completely changed the outcome.
And yet, she had died at Tobi's hands.
"I can't believe it. In the timeline where the Uchiha clan was wiped out, both Nagato and I died like this."
"In a way, Nagato and I ended up on the same side as Konoha in the end, didn't we?"
"No wonder you knew I could make so many explosive tags."
Konan sighed deeply, reflecting on everything she had seen.
As one of the founders of the Akatsuki, she had never imagined that this would be her final fate.
At the same time, she now understood why Akira kept pestering her for more explosive tags—he must have known about her future.
In comparison, her massive stockpile of 600 billion explosive tags paled in comparison to what Akira had managed to accumulate over time.
"Well, that's the story of your original fate. While it's not the real future you'll face, it's still meaningful, right? One million explosive tags for this info—fair trade, wouldn't you say?" Akira said with a smile.
"Fine." Konan nodded slightly, no longer showing any sign of resisting the deal.
While Akira had initially forced her to see Nagato's fate without asking, when it came to her own fate, she had been the one to ask.
In no time, Konan successfully produced one million explosive tags and handed them over to Akira.

After obtaining one million explosive tags, Akira went to the Hokage's office and handed over two hundred thousand tags to Hokage Fugaku.
Naturally, Fugaku had no intention of reneging on their deal and approved Akira's request for a 200 million ryo funding allocation for further procurement.
With these 200 million funds in hand, a smile crept across Akira's face. Great, for the next half month or so, he wouldn't need to worry about lacking funds for the Life Simulation.
With these funds secured, Akira contemplated what he planned to do next and decided to activate the Life Simulator.
Ten million ryo vanished instantly as the simulator started up.
[One week later, Konoha formed an elite squad to attack the Akatsuki, while you stayed behind in the village.]
[Two weeks later, a fierce battle broke out between Konoha's elite forces and the Akatsuki. Jiraiya fell in battle, Might Guy also perished, and several others sustained injuries.]
[The Akatsuki was nearly annihilated. Nagato died, Obito escaped, and the rest of the Akatsuki members suffered heavy casualties.]
[Upon returning, Sasuke successfully transplanted Itachi's Sharingan, thereby unlocking the power of the Mangekyou Sharingan, greatly boosting his strength.]
[Two months later, Sasuke discovered Toneri's whereabouts. You joined him to confront and seal Toneri.]
[Upon returning to Konoha, you found that Hinata had been abducted, and Hanabi's Byakugan had also been taken!]
[You knew the abductor must be Otsutsuki Toneri.]
[You journeyed to the moon to rescue Hinata.]
[You died!]
This simulation left Akira frowning, his expression darkening as the scenario played out. So, even though he had specifically stayed back to protect Hinata during the Akatsuki mission, Toneri hadn't shown up then. Instead, Toneri struck two months later, during Akira's absence to deal with Toneri himself.
"So it seems that Toneri chooses to make his move whenever I leave Konoha," Akira thought to himself. It was evident now that Toneri was watching for opportunities, waiting for Akira to be away before taking action.
If the first time was a coincidence, the second time made it clear: Toneri was targeting Hinata the moment Akira left the village. There was no way it was a mere coincidence.
The situation left Akira feeling even worse. As the saying goes, "It's not the thief you need to fear, but the thief constantly eyeing you."
That's exactly what Toneri had become—a persistent threat. If he directly attacked, Akira wouldn't be afraid; he'd fight head-on. Without having activated the Tenseigan, Toneri wasn't an opponent Akira feared.
From both the original storyline and the simulator, it was clear that Toneri needed Hanabi's Byakugan to activate his Tenseigan. As long as he hadn't done so, Toneri was less of a threat.
Having figured out Toneri's behavior—waiting for Akira to leave Konoha before making a move—Akira decided to adjust his strategy and conduct another Life Simulation.
This time, Akira chose to leave Konoha with the elite squad to attack the Akatsuki, but he took Hanabi with him.
With Akira's involvement, Konoha's elite force didn't lose anyone and defeated the Akatsuki.
The most important outcome was Hinata's situation.
Upon returning from the Akatsuki mission, Akira discovered that Konoha had still been attacked. Toneri had infiltrated the village, leaving many Konoha ninjas, including Hokage Fugaku, severely injured.
Though Toneri himself was injured, he managed to kidnap Hinata.
Once the simulation ended, Akira realized he had underestimated Toneri's strength. Though Toneri might not want to face Akira without his Tenseigan, it didn't mean he was weak.
He single-handedly infiltrated Konoha, gravely injuring Hokage Fugaku and several others while successfully abducting Hinata. His power was at least comparable to Obito or Nagato.
Akira decided to change his approach once more and activated the Life Simulator for the third time.
This time, he decided to leave Sasuke behind in Konoha, telling him to guard the village in case Toneri or someone else attacked while Akira was away.
After much persuasion, Sasuke agreed to stay back.
Akira once again led Konoha's elite force, along with Hanabi, to attack the Akatsuki.
The battle played out similarly, with the Akatsuki being defeated. Konoha had no casualties, and the only member of the Akatsuki who fell was Uchiha Itachi. Sasuke was able to transplant Itachi's Sharingan successfully.
Upon returning to Konoha, it turned out that Toneri had attacked during Akira's absence. Sasuke, however, managed to fend off Toneri, suffering minor injuries, and ultimately forcing Toneri to flee. Hinata was saved.
This simulation's outcome satisfied Akira. After all the simulations, he had finally found a solution—having Sasuke stay back as a deterrent.
The multiple simulations, which covered about six months, only granted Akira an additional 1,000 Chakra points. Although the increase of 1,000 points over six months wasn't insignificant, it was a small percentage compared to Akira's current chakra level, which exceeded 100,000.
The increase was minuscule, but Akira was still determined.
With a plan in place, Akira left Sasuke to defend Konoha, while he, along with Jiraiya, Tsunade, and the elite force, launched an assault on the Akatsuki.
On the day of departure, while on the march, Akira initiated another Life Simulation. Another ten million ryo was spent, and the simulation began:
[You left Sasuke to defend Konoha while you led Hanabi and the others to attack the Akatsuki.]
[Five days later, a major battle broke out between your group and the Akatsuki.]
[Both sides suffered losses. You managed to seize some of the Two-Tails' chakra, but Uchiha Itachi fought desperately and reclaimed the tailed beast.]
[Itachi died, and you could not pursue the Akatsuki, so you retreated.]
[Sasuke successfully fended off Toneri's attack.]
[Sasuke transplanted Itachi's Mangekyou Sharingan, unlocking the Eternal Mangekyou and greatly enhancing his power.]
[You and Hinata moved to the Land of Snow to settle down.]
[The Akatsuki resurfaced to collect the Tailed Beasts, but you stayed in the Land of Snow.]
[Half a year later, Sasuke, Boruto, and others fought against Toneri and defeated him. You did not participate.]
[A year later, the Akatsuki successfully gathered all nine Tailed Beasts, and Uchiha Madara was resurrected, becoming the Sage of Six Paths.]
[Hinata couldn't stay put any longer and headed to the Ninja World to help. You, unable to let her go alone, followed her.]
[On the battlefield of the Land of Fire, Madara immediately locked onto you and attacked.]
[You died under the power of Limbo: Border Jail!]
[Please choose three aspects to improve.]
In this simulation, Akira decided to go into full survival mode. Whether it was facing Toneri or dealing with the Akatsuki collecting the Tailed Beasts, Akira refrained from getting involved—his aim was purely to stay alive.
But in the end, Hinata couldn't bear to stay on the sidelines and decided to help in the war. Naturally, Akira couldn't let her go alone.
Unexpectedly, the moment they arrived, Madara targeted Akira directly.
If it had been an ordinary, super Kage-level Madara, Akira was confident he could fight for hundreds of rounds. But with Madara at the Sage of Six Paths level, Akira was no match for him—which, considering the circumstances, made sense.
Despite everything, this time he had survived an entire year compared to just six months in previous simulations. The longer survival allowed him a year of training, which wasn't too bad.
Akira chose to increase his chakra reserves. Over the year, he added over 2,000 chakra points to his reserves, which he considered a decent outcome.
Chakra training is akin to rolling a snowball—the bigger the snowball, the more snow it gathers as it rolls.
In earlier years, his chakra increased by only a few dozen points annually. Now, however, his yearly growth had reached over 2,000 points, equivalent to the chakra reserves of a Jonin-level ninja.
All things considered, Akira was happy with his progress.
