"So… Have you ever wondered how you're going to spend the rest of your life? Do you have anyone that you dearly love, perhaps? I have this cousin who lives in your home country. Alissa… Do you know her?" Alissa asked Mark such subtle and non-suspicious questions, while he was taking long sips of his coffee.
Because he was taking his long sips of coffee, Alissa was able to ask loads of questions that are connected to each other, and connected to her main question. That main question being, whether Evan is aware of himself or not. Conscious, or in some sort of slumber…
'Just what had happened to you back then?' she wondered.
In order to know what had happened to Evan back then, Alissa has to know what the state of his soul is like at the moment. The reason why, is because by knowing his current state, she could at least assume what had happened for him to be in the state that he is in at the moment.
A memory loss? His mind dominated? A loss of energy, which caused hibernation?
The reason for his current state could be because of one of these questionable reasons. All Alissa has to do to know which one is the correct answer, is to discover…
"Alissa? No, I don't think I've ever met her. Not that I really went out in my younger years… I never liked crowded places." Mark replied, showing no signs of Evan's existence.
Mark's answer to Alissa's query was wrong. He was supposed to show signs of having Evan's memories, however, it seems that he didn't want to follow along with Alissa's script. Perhaps he is hiding something, or perhaps, Evan no longer wants to be with her, now that he has the chance to live as a human again. After all, throughout the last days that she had spent her time with Evan, Evan showed signs of hating his life as a ghost. Obviously, now that he's a human again, he wouldn't hesitate to deny her existence, since he doesn't want to ever get in touch with the supernatural side of the world again.
'Yes. That has to be the reason! He's definitely in there! He's just ignoring me!' Alissa tried to convince herself with her own lies.
The lies of hers seemed logical, hence why, even she who had made it all up, was able to believe it all. The main reason why she was believe it all of course, is because she didn't want to believe in the chance that her lover is dead. She wanted to stay optimistic, and in order to do that successfully, she had to lie to herself. Maybe, it isn't a lie, but a set of faith. Faith in the better uncertainty…
"I see…" Alissa replied, showing how she understood his words, and how she didn't mind.
In actuality, she was trying to see through Mark. She wanted cry out loud for Evan to talk, and wanted to ask him why he is lying to her, and why he doesn't want to be with her anymore.
But she couldn't do that…
Alissa just didn't have the strength to speak out to him, nor did she have the power to really believe in her own assumptions. A great part of herself knew that she was lying to herself. That's why she didn't have the strength to utter what she believes is the truth. She knew after all, that if she were to utter her own sense of truth, the real truth would simply shatter her false sense of reality, and that she'd lose every will to live as a result.
But what would be the point in her losing her will to live? She is a ghost who has no way of ending her life. Clearly, fate just wants her to suffer…
Hence why, in the end, the only thing she could do was smile. Smile and embrace the sense of a false reality. That is the only way she can lead her life without having to suffer endlessly, after all.
'No… Things can not just end like that. Whether he's lying or not, I'll find a way. I'll make him relive his memories with me. This way, he'll either remember me if its a loss of memories, or reveal the truth if he's been lying...' Alissa was able to get rid of her depressed thoughts, and even managed to come up with another brilliant plan of hers.
'Yes. That'll work…' She convinced herself of her plan being perfect, because it actually is perfect.
With her thoughts that have come to an end, Alissa then proceeded to stare at the disappearing figure of Mark, who was jogging his way through the town. A smile couldn't help itself from appearing, as Alissa stared at the disappearing figure of Mark.
Her emotions were running wildly. She felt happy as she stared at the back of Mark that made her reminisce about the times when she would say goodbye to her Evan. At the same time, she also felt a mixed sense of loss and excitement.
Loss, because of her lover that hasn't been present with her for many days already. Excitement, because she finally found a way to get him back, if he's still there, somewhere…
