"Ok Max, you can do this. All you have to do is save Professor Oak from the Beedrills, lead them to the Nidoking, have them fight, and try not to get killed in the crossfire.... who am I kidding,"
Despite how depressing Max made it sound, it would be fairly simple actually, Beedrill and Nidoking were both very aggressive, and they would probably fight it out. Nidoking because of the proximity to its nest, and the Beedrill because their numbers would give them confidence in beating the Nidoking. That might even work, but that's not the point, the goal is to save Professor Oak(and then to exploit him for all he's worth).
"Ok, here goes.... HEY PROFESSOR OAK! OVER HERE, YES, THE CRAZY LOOKING GUY YELLING AT YOU! GET YOUR RESEARCHING OLD ASS OVER HERE, NOW!"
" You... know.. I'm not that old yet." The sweating man gasped out as he reached Max.
"Now what?"
"What do you mean, RUN!" Putting words into action, Max bolted towards the way he came.
" Are you joking, what do you think I've been doing for the last hour! I thought you had a pokemon on you to help."
'An hour? Maybe he isn't so old after all.'
" Ahh! My back is killing me" Oak even had enough breath to complain... about his back.
Max wished he could facepalm at the moment, 'No, he is old. I mean I'm tired, but my back is fine. hmm? Maybe that year of track wasn't that bad afterall. Still hated it though.'
"You... Know.. oh boy. Why... are these Beedrills... chasing you... anyway?" It was a fair question. Even if in the show the Beedrills chased people alot, they should have left after 20 minutes, let alone an hour.
" Haha, funny thing... about that... I, well... kinda was observing their nest, from a branch, and it... sorta snapped.. and I fell onto a part of their nest, damaging it. So their a bit angry at me, haha." Oak even put a hand on the back of his head as he explained
" WHAT?! Aren't you supposed to be a professor on pokemon behavior? How could you do something so stupid!" Max was starting to regret helping him now
" You learn something new everyday I guess, right haha" Oak was being a bit too happy go lucky, but he was probably used to this kind of thing, not that that was good or anything.
By this time they were getting close to the Nidoking nest.
"Alright now all we have to do is get the Beedrill to fight the Nidoking, and then we can escape while they are fighting."
Professor Oak suddenly went wide eyed, "A Nidoking! Why would you lead us to that monsters lair?!"
"How else are we going to get rid of these Beedrills without something distracting them? Get that Nidoking to fight them and it will be fine."
Before Oak could refute Max...
*ROOOOOAAARRR!!!!!*
The giant Nidoking crashed through the trees( those poor plants) angered to have smelled more trespassers. It could see two of those puny hairless Mankeys, along with a swarm of Beedrills. Normally it would focus on the Beedrills as they were more of a threat, but it remembered one of the hairless Mankeys, which had trespassed earlier, and it thought it had destroyed already. The Nidoking got quite angry that the chimp dared to have survived, so it decided to finish the Mankeys first.
" Ah, why is that Nidoking focusing on us?" Professor Oak was beginning to go pale now.
" Funny thing about that. I kinda already met it earlier, and I think it remembered me." Max wasn't in looking the best either.
The Nidoking opened its mouth, and it began to glow in the telltale sign of its Hyper Beam.
"" We are so dead.""
*BBBBEEEEEEEE*
DEUS EX BEEDRILL!
The swarm of Beedrill had just caught up to Max and Professor Oak, and upon seeing Nidoking had hesitated, but once they saw Nidoking ignore them for those hairless Mankeys, were insulted, as if they believed that Nidoking though they were less dangerous than those two. Infuriated they mass attacked the Nidoking, just as it was powering up its Hyper Beam. As it was focused on Max and Oak, it didnt see the Twin Needles before it was too late.
Even though the Nidoking was strong, much stronger than an individual Beedrill, the combined attack inflicted heavy damage.
*RRRRRRRRRRRRRRROOOOOOOOOOAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR*
The Nidoking was enraged! It completely forgot about the other two and stampeded towards the Beedrills, and they in turned continued to barrage Nidoking with attacks.
"... I guess your plan worked afterall?" Oak was equally flabbergasted and relieved, he thought that they were done for.
" Yeah.. I guess s... WAIT! This is our chance, let's get out of here!"
Oak didnt need to be told twice.
Thanks for those who are giving my little story a chance. Hope you all are being safe, and have a good day.
'Note to self, never follow Oaks directions ever.' It took Oak and Max 6 hours to get back to Oaks jeep. On three different occasions they got lost following Oaks memories of which direction his jeep was in. Then just a short drive back to Pallet town, and Oaks lab.
" We finally made it." Max basically collapsed onto one of Oaks couches. " I thought we would starve out there, or worse run into another monster pokemon."
"Haha, dont worry, I know those forests like the back of my hand. Once we escaped those Beedrills we were fine" Oak looked mighty pleased with himself.
Max lifted his head from the couch just enough to glare at Professor Oak "How often do you look at your hands," Max was sceptical to say the least, the last 6 hours wouldn't fill anyone person with confidence.
"oh, every once in a while I guess, hahaha. Besides, you should be happy, your crazy plan worked, and now we're safe and sound."
While Oaks upbeatness was a bit annoying to Max after what they just went through, he had a point.
*sigh*" I guess" Max heaved himself up into a sitting position, grudgingly, and deciding to get to business. "So."
" So?" Professor Oak now had a bit of mischievious look now, he knew this was coming.
"Even if the circumstances were, strange, I did still save you from those Beedrills." What Max was talking about, and implying, was obvious, Oak however,
"Ah yes, you did do that. Thank you... you know, I never got your name." Oak realized
"Max, Max Cromwell." Max extended his hand, which Oak readily accepted.
"Cromwell, That's an interesting name. Well anyways, thank you Max for your help." Oak then got a chair and placed it opposite from Max, and then sat back. and waited.
'Is that it?' Max was a bit annoyed, there's no way Oak didnt get what he meant, right?
" Well, You know I've only been in Kanto for a short time,"
"Is that so? Well welcome to Kanto, I'm sure that you'll love it here." Oak seemed pretty content with just that.
'He's messing with me, the old bastard is messing with me!'
"Ok thanks, so I was wondering if you had room for me to stay for a time, until I can safely head off; I could even help here a bit while I'm here."
" oh, is that the case, why didnt you say so before. I would be happy for the company. My grandson left not to long ago, so I was feeling a bit lonely." Oak looked quite pleased with himself.
It was no wonder, he knew what Max was implying, only someone who was deaf would have missed it, but he noticed that Max was very tense, and seemed a bit more closed off then what Oak thought was his usual nature, and decided to have a bit of fun to unwind Max a little(you would be a bit different than usual if you had just died too).
Max, finally having got an in, pushed his luck a bit, and in his rush, ignored the important piece of information at the end that Oak had stated. "So professor, as someone who studies pokemon behavior, do you think you could help me out a bit more?"
"hm? What kind of help?"
"Well, you might have guessed. but I dont have any pokemon, and one of the reasons for me to be in this area was the hope of getting a good starter pokemon for my journey. Maybe you have a starter that you could spare or something." Max was suddenly nervous saying this, firstly, why would someone come so far just to get a pokemon, they were everywhere. Second, and Max realized this too late, is that he opened himself up for Oak to question his past. However Oak seemed to catch Max's sudden unease, and decided to let his questions rest for the time
" alrighty, doesn't seem to much of a hassle, and usually I would have some pokemon perfect for starters, however my last bunch was taken by some promising youngsters.
'What?' ( oh god not again)
"What do you mean?" Max was freaking out, no starters at all. What kind of professor was he?
" Well, I mentioned that my grandson had recently left to start his journey, he, along with a group of other kids received their starters not to long ago, so I really dont have any suitable starters for you." Oak actually looked sorry for that, even though it wasn't his fault( I blame Truck-kun).
" How about any unsuitable starters? Anything would be fine." Max was pretty desperate, what kind of person doesn't have a pokemon in the pokemon world. How can you catch them all if you dont even have one?
" Wwwhell, there is a pokemon that I caught recently, but it was more to get it out of the garden than anything else." Oak looked doubtful that the one in mind would satisfy Max at all.
" It can't be a bad pokemon if you caught it professor." Max needed this, some flattery was nothing.
" If you're sure?" Oak lifted himself out of his chair and walked over to his bag, the one he was carrying when he and Max met, and after a quick scuffling around, brought out a pokeball.
" You had a pokemon on you when the Beedrills attacked you and you didnt use it?"
"It probably would not have done anything, it is a fairly young pokemon, not to mention weak, it would have only gotten hurt." Oak looked kinda funny at that moment, even the iconic sweat drop was present at that moment, but Max didn't care one bit.
" Well I guess that's understandable. But with time and care, any pokemon can achieve greatness!" Max's eyes were shining at this point. He was about to get his first pokemon! This was going to be amazing.
"Well ok, you are quite passionate about this it seems, so at least I can rest easy about this fellas wellbeing." Oak handed Max the pokeball, "well hes yours, just remember to take good care of it. While you are here I can help with your questions if you have any too."
" Thank you so much Professor! Ok the come on out buddy!" I point the Pokeball towards the floor, and just like that it releases its contents,
'Well, that was not what I was expecting to say the least.' Max was surprised, but had a reminiscing smile on his face, as if he was remembering something dear to him.
Of course, this pokemon was a smaller than average Bellsprout, who looked up towards it's new master; their eyes connected, Max's smile expanded,
" good to meet you my new friend, I think we will do great things togeth... "
*BONK*
The Bellsprout had jump up and smashed it's head into Max's; it didnt hurt Max really, but Bellsprout was fainted on the floor

"This might be harder than I thought."
sorry everyone, was planning to release this yesterday but stuff kinda happened. Question for the readers, should I use nicknames for Max's pokemon?
Anyway, for those who caught it, Max's name initials spell MC, why, well might as well go full cringe. Have a good day everyone.
