Chapter 21: Metamorphosis
~January 1, 2020, Massive WiFi tower~
Lo: Oh no... no no no, why didn't i took the hit?
Zel: I'm doing this for you. You had so much to live for now that your planet's gone. & i don't think it'll be the same when you followed.
Maya: Don't you die on me, Zel. Let me just-
Zel: No, your spit only heals your kind. owowoowow. It still hurts.
Maya: Zel...
Zel: Maya, please take care of my boyfriend, for i'd actually love him that much.
Lo: You just kept it for that long, huh?
Zel: Yeah. Lo, there's one last thing i need to tell you. Remember we promised to get 60 friends, *chuckles* looks like you had to finish it on your own.
Lo: I promise.
Zel: (sighs) I'm sorry... for everything.
(As Zel gave out her final breath, Lo & Maya both looked onto each other & hugged sorrowly. Just then, her phone rang as her dad tried to call her. It led to a sour mouth for both of them, but they knew what is done)
~1:00 am, Beach~
Meggy: First there's Desti & now this. Life is unfair.
Mario: & it might just get a lot worse.
(The entire SMG4 gamg returned as they give out another boat funeral. On her lap is her gift from Grandpa & her cat headphones, both of which she never expect to use)
Lo: (to Nakano) I'm so sorry about your little girl, sir.
Nakano: I know, & i thought my negative aura would be worse for me.
Maya: You just did a good job raising her.
Nakano: Thanks. You're ready?
Lo: Let's do it.
(Lo, Maya, & Nakano then pushed her boat off the water as the rest of the gang paid their respects. Some of which hadn't held their tears)
Maya: Can you please excuse us?
(The three then left the gang as they tried to go. But Mario noticed something peculiar from above...)
~The In Between~
Zel: (sighs) Here i am. I just hope Lo will be fine after all this.
?????: I don't think so.
(Zel then turned around to see a woman in regal gown, as if from royalty)
Zel: What is this place?
?????: This is the In-Between, a part of the universe where all dead souls end up on.
Zel: Yeah, i figured, considering i recently died.
?????: Stop talking like that. So you know, i talked to your ancestors & we all agreed to give you a second chance.
Zel: Second chance?
?????: Across my lifetime, i met some colorful people, & came to realize how beautiful life is. If you want your friends to be happy, you don't have to give up hope. Sparrow, Rabbit, are you ready?
(Just then, 2 ghosts came by & channeled their energy onto her)
Zel: Thank you.
?????: No problem. After all, i knew your father more than you think.
Zel: Wait, what are you-
(Meanwhile, as the gang tries to leave, Mario notices a heart pattern on the sky)
Mario: Guys, you better take a look into this.
(A few more hearts pop up, forming a clover pattern. & as its complete, a being crashed onto Zel's boat, sinking it down)
SMG4: Quick Mario, get her
Mario: On it.
(As Mario goes to pick up Zel, some had felt worried onto what happened to her now)
Mario: Alright everyone, stand back.
(The gang then watched as Zel looked a bit different than usual. For once, her hair had shortened, & gave out a brownish hue)
Luigi: SMG4, do you have another boat?
SMG4: I think there's one on the shore, but...
(Just then, they heard a couch, & just like that, Zel opened her eyes once again)
Mario: Zel, is that really you?
Zel: I guess. (squints her eyes) Man, my eyes hurt.
SMG4: Here, take my inspection glasses. It should help you up.
Zel: Thanks. (wears the glasses & notices her hoodie's ruined) Oh man, i really needed some new threads.
Mario: Zel, (she turns around only to find Mario has her pink hoodie) i think there's someone you'd apologize to.
~Other part of the beach~
Maya: It sure was quiet, huh?
Lo: Yeah. To be honest, i had the same feelings for her, all the way back at the mall.
Maya: I know that feel, man. Back when i first moved to the apartment, she's the first person who made open to my feelings. I don't think i'll ever be the same without her.
Nakano: Yeah, for once, she gave me what its like to be a great father. & on a situation like this, i would've accepted you as part of a family.
Lo: Yeah, if she were to be here, she would've said
"Stop it dad, you're making me blush"
(The two are shocked only to realize they heard her voice again. Lo then turns around only to find a girl with a pink jacket, but it looked like he knew too well)
Zel: Please stop it.
(Lo then tears up again & hugs her with all his might. Meanwhile, Nakano looks shocked as his daughter came back to life)
Maya: Zel, how is this even possible?
Zel: I don't know, but when i die, some lady told me it ain't be my time yet & here i am.
Nakano: (hugs both Lo & Zel in tears) I'm just so glad you finally came back.
Lo: Can you please let us go now?
Nakano: Oh, sorry. (lets them go)
Lo: (chuckles) Your dad sure missed you, huh?
(As he turned onto Zel, she suddenly kissed him. From lips to lips, they had missed each other already. Eventually she backs up as they realized they're holding hands now)
You surely missed this, huh?
Zel: Yep.
Nakano: What are we waiting for? Let's just head back already & end this new years right!
Maya: Yeah, come on Lo & Zel.
Lo: On it.
Zel: Wait first. I don't think Zel be the right name for me.
Lo: Well, what should we call you then?
Kel: I was thinking, that the name Kelsey be nice. Or Kel by short.
Nakano: That, is a wonderful name.
Kel: Thanks. Now let's go.
(The four then returned as the year of sorrows came to an end, meanwhile...)
Ztar: Sorry master, i had failed you.
???: No need. You are merely setting up the next stage of our plan. If you want to destroy them, it seemed best to give yourself an upgrade.
Ztar: Master, if you need me again, i'll still be here.
???: Granted. (hangs up & sets his sights onto the Nightmare animatronic SMG3 brought up) Now, it's your turn. (The animatronic starts twitching & just as he knew, it arose onto his feet) Are you ready for your revenge?
(The animatronic then smiled, as a familiar vibe returns)

PG: (looks onto the post where Zel's back) Looks like we have another one, huh?
(Just then, someone had entered the facility. & he starts having visions of Kirbys as she approached him)
Nishaki, is that you? But i thought we got crushed back then.
Nishaki: I'm glad that you're back. Come on, we got a few more friends to remeet.
