The morning sunlight was comforting, far from what I had felt the past hours. My body is heavy, my chest tight, and my skin clammy. I took deep, steadying breaths to calm myself. I had barely slept, as I kept tossing and turning. The blight symptoms had caught up with me, I just felt a little better, and now I'm sick again.
Slowly sitting on the bed, I caught the cane leaning against the bedside table.
When did he have time to make this? Did he even sleep?
My hand automatically reached for the cane, it was a smooth but sturdy wood. A smile crept on my lips as I saw the flower designs on the wood. I never thought he would add anything, but these small details made my heart leap.
I immediately tried to use it, slowly pushing myself up to stand up, which took me beads of sweat to do until I could fully stand up and not wobble. Testing to put a little weight on my injured foot, cost me a sharp hiss, and I immediately put everything on my good leg.
