Chapter 29: Let her guard down

"Did you think I'd back down that easily?" Aria's voice cut through the air, low and controlled, yet laced with a challenge that hung like a thin veil over her anger.

Across from her, Victor raised an eyebrow, his lips curling into a smirk. "Isn't that exactly what you should be doing, Aria? If you had any sense, you'd realize what you're up against."

She took a step closer, her eyes flashing with defiance. "I know exactly what I'm up against, Victor. And it'll take more than your petty power plays to make me quit."

The office felt tense, the polished glass walls seeming to reflect back the silent hostility between them. Around them, staff moved briskly, casting glances and murmurs that died the moment either of them looked up. Victor was clearly enjoying himself, his eyes never leaving Aria's face as if trying to find the faintest trace of hesitation.
