Chapter 142: Unfeeling

The monster cried, his voice cracking as he raised his hostages in front of him reflexively, as if showing her again that he had them.

He couldn't comprehend why she was still trying to attack, not only that, but the golden radiance had long grown past the blade, it kept on extending and widening every single moment, it got so huge that the monster felt certain that the whole street would be cut apart the moment she went in for the swing.

'She- She must be bluffing, that's a bluff! She won't do it! She can't! There are tons of people around!' he hyperventilated and sweated buckets in just a mere moments, he felt closer than ever to passing out.

His heart was beating so strongly and loudly, his ribs were hurting and he couldn't hear anything else, as though his heart was directly inside of his skull.

'She can't do it, she can't, she can't!' he could only cling to that conviction.

She was a hero, heroes can't murder innocents like that, even if to defeat an enemy! It was inconceivable!

The monster couldn't even understand what was happening, for he had thoroughly rejected that possibility, but it was a golden brilliance that was headed straight for him.

His sole eye, bloodshot, widened to its utter limit as blood vessels popped inside of the ocular globe, the brilliance was cutting straight through habitations and people, going right through without any resistance.

"Ah" he made a stifled sound as his upper half slide down from his lower half, before he hit the ground, his two arms touched it first, also sliced right off in the same motion.

The pain he experienced was so profound and visceral that he simply couldn't register it.

In his last few moments of consciousness, he realised that the blade of vibrant gold hadn't damaged anything other than him, going right through the townsfolk and buildings.

His ability was canceled and the panicked people fell to the ground, confused and disoriented.

His killing intent had since long vanished, when fear overtook him, he lost all will to kill Superstes, only whishing to live.

Had he not been too focused on his own survival, he probably could have actually landed a blow, alas, he was too fearful of the heroine and prefered to take another route.

Between dying fighting to the bitter end and dying like a dog, he had chosen the latter.

The bright glow had made a perfect slice and had cauterised the wounds, allowing for him to remain alive for longer than he should have been allowed to.

Despite baving been bisected at the waist and being literally disarmed, no blood or guts had poured out, the cauterisation prevented any infection, it was a glorious slash that was purely that, no bleeding out or dying to disease due the harrowing blows.

It might seem merciful, but once he actually registered the intense pain, he would instantly die from shock.

His expression would remain frozen in suffering, testament to what awaited those that got in the hero's way.

He saw Superstes walking up to him, he looked up at her, slowly beginning to understand what had happened.

The reason she hadn't used the golden glow after that first time was most certainly because she had been focusing, focused on channeling it so that it would grow to such massive proportions and also, to somehow control it to only damage him.

He had certainly not been expecting this, such fine control was beyong his own reach and that of many way above him.

But perhaps it was also just an inherent function of this beautiful golden energy.

The monster didn't know that the golden power used by Superstes was associated with the mighty first hero, nor did he even know that such a figure even existed, but now he could clearly feel like there was something singular and glorious about it.

Even if only a diluted version of the real thing, the monster still felt infinitely small in front of it.

A shame he only realised this when he was so closer to becoming a corpse.

The monster stayed silent as Superstes looked down at him.

Slaughter Lord's Mastery has been returned to more concealable form, that of an innocuous-looking ring, but since it had a hidden sharp point, it was considered a weapon.

Superstes felt like something was wrong with her.

Looking around at the dismembered bodies and splashes of blood left behind after the monster's rampage, she only felt one thing.

And it was nothing.

She felt nothing seeing the reaped lives she had failed to save, she didn't feel remorse or guilt, she would have prefered seeing them alive for sure, but seeing them dead didn't rise anything out of her.

It had been the same thing when she had caught the two monsters munching on people as if they were cattle, she had tried to emulate indignation and wrath, she had succeeded but it was just a play, a tactic.

Those people didn't mean anything to her, the only people that could truly get an honest emotions from her where Axiolypito and Sir Solitar, both on opposite sides of the spectrum.

Even Lolianth, Feuman and Cinla couldn't, even though she knew that she wouldn't feel nothing were they to die, but they just didn't elicit anything from her as it was.

Without a second throught, she turned and left the monster to die by himself, collapsing barely a few seconds after Superstes left his vision.

After a long time of waiting, Axiolypito had finally decided to have a meeting with his temporary allies.

They were all quite surprised by how he had decided for them to meet.

To remain sneaky, everyone had been put inside a room, which was sunk into the ground, Axio had went around to gather all of his allies with this technique and now, the unlikely group was sitting around a long, rectangular table.

Axiolypito seating at one end, on an elevated throne while everyone else sat in normal chairs.

At least, it gave the tone.
