Chapter 10: Trust and responsibilities

- The Void Berserker couldn't believe it. Did he launch that little pest to one of Jupiters moons? How could someone so weak defeat the entire Void Stalker herd from him? He also teleported here right after the first 10 died, so how did he kill them so quick?

The Void Berserker was just confused and didn't know what he should do, he looked for him for at least 4 hours. Where could he have hidden?

Just as the Shepherd wanted to give up, he felt something poking through his back. As he looked down he saw a little hole from which blue liquid was flowing in every direction. Suddenly everything went black for him. His eyes got pierced and the invisible object slashed, cut, pierced and poked him again and again. And what was worse was that he couldn't even move a finger, he was bound in place and had to let this go over him. Rage, irritation, then fear and at last understanding were the things he felt in his last moments.

- Somewhere a chuckling man was floating near a corpse, thinking that this was too easy. He had masked himself using Illusory Space and changed the Berserkers time perception, letting him search for hours without finding him. Then he used his expanded Mind Space to hold the exhausted monster in place and used his Void Needle to finish the job.

After the announcement did his pale skin colour turn into a dark undescribable shade, making it look like there was a missing spot in the cold space. 'So I got his hiding ability? That will be useful to avoid some battles or at least make it easier for me to kite them.'

- At a spaceship did the operarions start again. Someone of the crewmembers was able to activate the special Mind Barrier of the ship, letting the bloody passengers stand up again. "Captain, the radar picked two high energy signatures up. Should we engage?" "Yes, the possibility for Special Ops Mars being there is high. Activate camouflage system and aproach at traveling speed. We don't want to be discovered to quickly."

After aproaching the battlefield and using their long-range telescopes they saw an unbelievable scene. A Void Berserker was slowly floating in space, not moving or reacting to the countless wounds that appeared all over his body. A moment later his red eyes got glassy, every ounce of life leaving him. A Void Stalker herd was also floating like that near the battlefield.

The other being responsible for this outcome simply dissappeared from their sight. It vanished but was still there. They saw 'it' move, an empty spot wandering around the place. The radar also showed its energy fluctuations. It couldn't control its output at all.

Then they heard it 'Hey, pick me up. I need some help.', astounded they realised that this being was indeed the Mars they were looking for.

Mars had thought about how to not expose his abilities in this moment, but the new Camouflage took away his option just then. He had no choice if he wanted to go back home.

The moment the spaceship scooped him and the corpses up, his body changed back to the pale one from before, but his energy veins were hiding this time, letting no one see his relation to the Void.

Nonetheless everyone was quiet, they just weren't able to figure out how and what happened. One crewmember broke the silence by asking Mars "Can you defend us now?" The question that lingered in everyones minds has been spoken out.

"At least I can try, after all we are brothers."

- Back on earth Mars was called to the Commander to talk about the result of his mission. "Did you make those corpses?" The Commander was pointing somewhere behind him, where the dead Void beings were piled up.

"Yes, I killed them and I regained some abilities. Space changed my body it seems, otherwise I would have been the one laying there." After a few moments did the Commander break the silence "Then I can tell you about the plan and why we are here again... As you might have guessed, we are under attack by the Void Army. They finally moved after their last loss. You already met there scouts and even took down a shepherd. So you must have gotten at least a grasp on your former abilities, if not... They destroyed our strongholds in the other star systems and their main fleet should enter this one in the next coming weeks, maybe next month if we are lucky." The Commander stared Mars right in the eyes " We need you. I don't know why they sent only your army and me here, but we trust you and I will do anything in my power to help you achieve your former glory."

A cold glint appeared in his eyes "As for the plan..."

CREATORS' THOUGHTS
MetaShadow MetaShadow

Mars's thoughts: "I just can't believe how easy I defeated that Berserker. Leveling up has been my saving grace. But too bad there was no way to hide my abilities. The good thing is that I will get involved in their plans directly now..."
