Chapter 1: Chapter 1 The Good/Bad News
Jim stomped on the gas rushing across the freeway with his daughter, Minpha, and wife, Helen who was really pregnant. they drove to the hospital with in an hour after the time came. He jerked the car to sudden stop and hopped out. it was followed by him opening the door for Helen. he gently took her hand and helped her out. Minpha, who is only nine, followed soon after. they entered the hospital and asked for the doctor. the nurse at the desk hastily called for the doctor. she told them 'the doctor will be with them in a minute.'
At this moment Jim was not in the mood to wait. he exploded. swearing and demanding the doctor come down here ASAP. the nurse fired back yelling that the doctor has a other patient who is in the emergency room right now. Jim back off feeling defeated and embarrassed of what he just did. normally he is calm and collected, but watching his wife in obvious pain put him on edge. he apologizes saying 'he doesn't know what came over him'. while the nurse calmly commented that 'it was normal to have that kind reaction.'
within a minute the doctor walked into the room with a roll in bed following behind him. Helen sighed in relief to seeing her doctor. she slowly walked over to the doctor. the doctor motioned her to get on and slowly. she did as he said wincing in the process. they rolled her away with Jim standing beside her leaving Minpha with the nurse.
As soon as they were out of sight Minpha sighed. mumbling why they had to have a second one and that she would rather be a only child. the nurse noticed this. "so your against having this sybling and would rather be alone." Minpha glared at the nurse. "shut up, you damn nurse you know nothing."
the nurse instantly shuts her mouth and continues with whatever she was doing in silence. Minpha also continued what she was doing: cursing and swearing at the unborn baby.
after an hour Jim walked out of the room and told Minpha that her little brother was born. that he wanted her to see him. Minpha groaned and reluctantly followed. within the room was Helen, the doctor, and the little baby. Minpha sat down next to Jim glaring at the kid. he tapped her on her shoulder and whispered in her ear. 'stop glaring at him' she groans and shifts her eyes away.
the doc limps up to Helen and the little one. he takes the little one into his arms. "madam, would you like a check up right at this very moment for you and your new born?" Helen nods slowly looking ready to go home and sleep. "ok, I'll be a momant." he leaves to the other room.
they waited a few minutes talking about what the new family member's name. Minpha suggested Mistake, but Jim yelled at her and told her he is not a mistake. next Helen decided to go with Jonah. Jim and Minpha agree. Although, Minpha would rather call him mistake because in her eyes he was.
minutes later the doc returned with Jonah wearing a distressed look on his face. "what's wrong?" Helen suddenly asked fear square in her face. "sigh, nothing much he is healthy no major illnesses..."
doc falls silent having a hard time getting the words out. "doctor, please tell us what is wrong with our son." father pushed looking extremely worried. the doc hesitated for a second than spilled the beans, "well.... your son... sigh... sorry, but he can't see." every single person in the room just stared at him in disbelief. "no that can't be right... w-what do you mean he's blind?" doc shuffles towards Helen and gives Jonah to her. she looks at him. to her fear her son has completely clear glassy eyes that didn't move at any point at if stuck in darkness. tears swelled up in her eyes and she hugged he little Jonah. "is there anyway to help him with his sight?"Jim asked felling the last of his hope fade with every moment. doc shook his head, "I'm sorry..." he leaves the room quietly letting the family mourn for their son's sight.
