Chapter 44: Beaten But Never Defeated

Venator stepped away from the pillar, his eyes locked with the mages, all ready to fight him with hands carrying orbs of elements.

Weariness spread to Venator's face and mind, realizing the amount of injuries he had sustained. "Hope i can win this." He whispered to himself, readying his sword and magic for the fight.

Taking a final deep breath, Venator ran forward, one by one he took them on, those who fell were quickly sealed in a dome of ice by Venator, quickly their advantage dwindled with more mages getting trapped inside the domes, only three were still standing while the rest began trying to break out of their domes. The fight raged on, Venator slashed around at the mages, his sword feeling lighter and his footing faster than before.

With his sword and fire Venator fought the mages, trying to confuse them with the flurry of different attacks he used. Orbs of fire and ice shards slammed into him from the mages, forcing him to create a pillar to hide behind. In seconds while he tried to catch some breath, the pillar shattered, sharp pieces of ice stabbed into his back, sending his body flying through the air, crashing into a wooden wall of a house, knocking the air out of him.

Venator slowly rose back up, having sustained more injuries above what he already had beforehand. Even with the heavy injuries, the energy and adrenaline coursed through inside him.

"Is that all you mages got?" Through exasperated breaths, he mocked at the mages, clutching his sword with a bleeding and burned gloved hand. After he regained his breath back, Venator rushed back to the fight, fire and ice flew around, trying to hit Venator in his run, only managing to narrowly graze him. On the run, Venator noticed something off with one of the mages, with the rest, a single mage carried a leather pouch, one carrying explosive balls used by the others. He began throwing it towards Venator, causing the ground to break under him with explosions tearing through the area he ran on, causing him to begin running faster.

Venator stared at the mage, looking down at the pouch, "I need to get it from him."

Soon his attention shifted to focus on the pouch bearing mage. Moving past more orbs and elements, he charged directly into him, His sword broke through the mage's armor like paper, exiting out of his back. The other mages looked in horror at the sight.

"How, this armor is supposed to be enough to stop any blade." One of them spoke in a quivering tone. Venator ripped the pouch off the mage's waist, attaching it to his own. "This should come in handy." He attacked the other mages, his sword tore through their armor quick, breaking off pieces or creating large gashes into their chest armor. The other mages, with their magic, finally broke through the thick domes of ice, at the cost of some of their energy.

The fight grew in number, Bellunamien's army returned back into the fray, seeing Venator busy with the mages, they cautiously moved forward slowly. The enemy army continued observing the fight.

The mages were quickly outmaneuvered from their armor, Venator continued ripping through their armor, slashing through into the flesh of the mages. The mages continued throwing their magic at Venator, but Venator continued fighting, his clothes became more torn and his skin took in more injuries with each second, the pain was nearly nulled by Venator's high energy and adrenaline.

As more mages fell, the soldiers cheered out to Venator. The mages fought more desperately as their numbers became smaller.

With one strong slash, the last mage fell, a large metal gash on his chestplate, the flames in his hands quickly dissipated. The fighters looked in horror, frozen in place while they looked at the dead mages.

"Onwards to the gate!" The General yelled out to his men. The soldiers suddenly ran forward, scattering around as the fighters began compressing, bracing themselves for the horde of armored men charging straight at them.

In less than a second, the full brunt of the army slammed into the line of fighters, quickly squishing them against the barred gate, they let out screams of terror as they became overwhelmed, but the soldiers behind the gate ran back, abandoning them.

Venator knelt down, his body riddled with many spots of burned flesh and torn skin from ice shards, his clothes dripped from the sudden flood. He went to work fast, a green aura spawned in his hand while he healed himself behind the horde of soldiers.

He looked at his sword with glee, "This blade really is good." He looked down at the pouch of balls on his waist, they were all circular in shape, a small wick was stuck on the top of each one, they were light to carry and clunked around in the pouch. "Wonder how this works." Venator curiously grabbed one of them, staring at the wick in particular.

Behind him, the small group of fighters were all killed, Bellunamien soldiers began walking back away from the gate, the General stood observing it, thinking of how to enter inside.

He turned towards Venator while he kept looking at the small ball, "Venator, what is that?" He asked with an authoritative but curious tone.

"Unsure General, but this seems to be what they were using against us." The General took the ball from his hand, checking it himself, "Strange, so this is what they used on us." The soldiers began moving back to formation, but now forming a line of men around the castle with other units that reached them. Bellunamien archers started firing over the top of the castle, blindly attacking anything inside it.

Venator and the General continued staring, until an idea struck Venator's mind. he grabbed the ball, his other hand began burning bright blue, slowly he neared the wick to the top of his hand.

In a second, the wick was set alight, their eyes widened in shock, discovering how it worked. With little time, Venator threw it at the closed down gate. It bounced off the bar, rolling down the ground next to it.

The explosion rocked them with dirt raining down on them, the soldiers all looked in surprise at the explosion. As the dust settled, they looked back at the gate, the bars were bent, pushed back from the explosion but still standing. "I think i have an idea." Venator said looking down at the pouch of explosives.
