Chapter 50: NEWBORN

"How could this be?"

Caspian muttered as he rose to his feet. With a light touch, he ran his fingers through the intricate patterns on the piece of wood.

As he did he recalled standing on the steps of the orphanage's waiting room, gazing with starry eyes at the craftsmanship of the manor's main door.

It was made of sturdy black oak wood with a floral pattern carved onto it. The vines seemed to come alive under the sun– even now, telling a tell of unwavering Will and long-suffering. 

While he stared at it Caspian came to a conclusion that the orphanage or at least bits of it had also fallen into ashen purgatory.

Which meant that Knights and even possibly Sir Julian could be here somewhere. Cass was certain that the gallant knight would be able to find a way of ensuring that they survived long enough to escape this place.

"Surely he would not overlook a stranded boy."

Caspian said with a weak smile as he rubbed the surface of the door.
