Prologue: A Child's Dream

Listen closely, my dear.

This was a story from a long, long time ago.

This story began when a human discovered a 'door' to another realm and they carelessly opened it. Once the door was opened, the human had to run for his life. In fact, every human in the realm had to run for their lives. Because from the wide-open door, countless demons poured out into the Human Realm.

"Demons?"

Yes. That's right. The realm beyond that door was actually the Demonic Realm, where thousands of demons resided.

After the door was opened, the demons entered the Human Realm and wreaked havoc, killing and destroying everything in their path. The peaceful Human Realm was thrown into terrible chaos. The humans had no place to run. Thus, a lot of humans were killed by these demons without mercy in just a short time. There were dead bodies strewn about and left to rot everywhere they went. It was a horrific time for the humans.

"Why is it horrific?"

Because humans' dead bodies were supposed to be properly buried and decorated with a tombstone. But, at the time, everyone was only concerned about saving themselves from the demons. They had no time to care about each other, much less to care for the dead. The situation was that dreadful. The Human Realm was then a land of death and destruction.

However, in this chaotic times, there remain a valiant king who cared about his subjects. He, in his final effort to save them all, resorted to praying to a certain God.

Prostrating low on the ground, putting his heart and soul into his words, he humbly pleaded, "Dear holy and mighty God, please save us. Please grant us the power to defeat these demons and send them back to Hell." The king prayed over and over again.

And then, lo and behold, the God answered his prayer. Out of nowhere, the Heavens opened up right above him. A radiant and heavenly light shined down from the Heavens and illuminated the entirety of the Human Realm gloriously. A lot of demons were also engulfed by the magical light. These demons then turned into dust in the blink of an eye and disappeared without a trace.

"The light killed them all?"

Not all of them. Some demons loved darkness and were hiding somewhere the light could not reach.

Anyhow, the light also engulfed the humans. Amongst them, a few selected ones suddenly had peculiar glowing marks appear on their bodies. After these marks appeared, the selected humans were able to wield magical powers beyond that of normal human abilities. With these magical powers, humans were finally able to fight and defeat the remaining demons.

"The king too?"

Yes. The king was also one of the selected humans with the glowing marks. He fought bravely against the demons.

These humans, who were touted as 'blessed by the Heavens', were then called 'magicians'. The Human Realm was peaceful again and grew more powerful than before because of them. And so people revered the magicians and hailed them as heroes who were tasked to save humankind, even to this day.

"Even to this day?"

That's right. Every once in a while, the demons would accidentally find a door to the Human Realm. They now know of the existence of another realm beyond the door, so they are always eager to explore and stake a claim to this new territory. However, the demons' tendency to kill and destroy mindlessly made it impossible for them to live in the Human Realm, because then the magicians would find them and kill them.

"Magicians are awesome."

Of course they are. But, my dear boy, have you ever wondered? Whether it was really a God who had answered the king's prayer? Has any of the humans ever wondered?

"Uh..."

What if the one who had answered his prayer wasn't actually a god, but... the Demon King himself?

"Eh?!"

At this moment the boy was startled awake from his dream as a man burst through the door into his dark room. He remained quiet and unmoving as he observed the anxious man who was glancing around the room looking for something frantically. Finally the man stopped and stood there frozen when their eyes met. They eyed each other warily before the boy felt a wave of exhaustion and fell asleep again without realizing it.

Afterwards, the boy learned that his dream story and the man who interrupted it was the starting point of his memory. His memories before that were nonexistent.

"Not all of them. Some demons loved darkness and were hiding somewhere the light could not reach."

Actually, here I wanted to write "somewhere the sun does not shine" at first, but the story mentioned heavenly light, not sun, so it's a no go.

If your mind still went into the gutter anyway after reading that, blame the demons. I blamed them too XD
