Chapter 69: CHAPTER SIXTY-NINE

I stood on the doorway of our room, running my hands through my hair before putting them in front of my mouth, breathing out tiredly. I took a deep breath and headed inside. "Alexandra?" I closed the door behind me and walked toward her. "Baby I..."

I furrowed my eyebrows together as I walked toward her and kneeled in front of her. "Alexandra." I sighed and leaned my head down. "Listen to me." I cupped her face and caressed her cheeks with my thumbs.

"Alexandra love, what's wrong with you?" I ran my knuckles across her face. "Look at me please. Alexandra for God sake!" I shouted at her, and she flinched away, snapping out of it. "I'm sorry baby I'm sorry." I brought her closer and kissed her forehead, pulling her into my arms.

She pulled away as she sniffed and I cupped her face in my hands, bringing our foreheads together. "Forgive me baby, I'm sorry." I lingered a kiss on her forehead and pushed myself up, kissing her head before pulling her against my chest.

"Forgive me." I ran my hands up and down her back as she cried out, tears falling out of my own eyes. "I can't anymore." She broke down crying and I shushed her as I swayed us back and forth. "I just can't." I hugged her tightly and pulled her off the ground and onto the bed, taking her hands in mine as I kneeled in front of her.

"Baby I'm sure that they're going to find her. I'm completely sure, they are making everything possible to find her, you'll see, they will find her. Look, Lucy won't do anything to hurt our daughter." She shook her head as she sniffed and looked down at our hands. "I know that she's capable of doing anything, but she won't mess with our daughter, she won't get that far."

The door creaked open, and my mother and Jaden walked in, interrupting us. "Alexandra, we brought you a tea of fresh herbs, we hope you like it." She turned her head to look at them and shook her head, turning back to look at me. "I don't want anything." I squeezed her hands and brought it toward my lips, kissing her knuckles.

"Please baby, it will help you." She shook her head still a no and took my hands away. I pressed my hands on my mouth and bit my knuckles. Alexandra's mom walked toward the bed and sat next to her, running her hand up and down her back.

"Alexandra darling, how are you?" Her mother patted her leg and smiled sadly at her. She turned to look at her, breathing out shakily. She bit her lower lip, suppressing a sob and pressed her eyes close, tears falling out.

She let out a shaky breath before opening her eyes to look at her mother. "I'm dying....I'm dying mom." She leaned her head on her mother's shoulder as she broke down. I ran my hands across my face and into my hair, standing up to sit next to her and hugged her. She pulled away from her mother and hugged me tightly. "I want her back."

"We all want her back sweetheart, we all." Alexandra's mother said as she stood up. "Enough crying. There are two adorable babies that are dying to see their mother." Her mother smiled down at her.

She laughed between tears and pulled away from me. "I've been quite a bad mother." She wiped her face and stood up." You're right." She smiled at her mother as she breathed in and out. She walked out of the room with her mother, and I slumped on the bed, running my hands across my face. "I don't know what else to do."

"Do you want my advice? Just be there for her." Jaden patted my shoulder before getting out of the room. I pushed myself with hands and leaned on my elbows, pulling away when my phone rang and slid it open.

"Hello." I stood up with one hand in my hair and walked out of the room. "Who is it?" I growled out frustrated when nobody spoke. "Again, who is it? I'm going to hang up."

"Max it's me Lucy." A hushed tone whispered from the other side of the line. "I need your help."

"Where are you?" I demanded as I headed down the stairs where Alexandra and the others were.

"I don't know, I couldn't I just...She has a gift you know." I listened carefully to here as I made my way to the front door without getting noticed. "She made my heart soft, and I hate it but yet, the feeling is incredible, a whole other level."

"Where are you, Lucy? Tell me where and I'll come and get you okay." I walked toward my car and opened the door with my free hand, getting inside the car. "Don't do anything stupid."

"Don't worry, I won't do anything. You know. She looks very much like you." She sniffed through the phone. "So much that it feels like some part of you is here with me even though...Max, I can't have you and this baby..."

"No! Lucy she might look like me but she's not me. You can't keep her; she has a mother and a father that misses her." I argued back with her as I drove off. "Do you want to do something good for the first time in your life?"

"Yes." She replied back as she sniffed, Rebekah babbling in the background. "She's so beautiful, and sweet." She highly replied and I knew that something was wrong. "I'm tired. I think that I'm going to rest for a second." Her ragged breathing could be heard through the speakers, and I panicked.

"Lucy, please tell me where you are!" I hit the steer wheel with my fist desperately. "For the love you still have for me help me once in your life. Do something good."

"I'm. I'm."

"Lucy? Lucy! Fuck!" I banged my fists on the steer wheel, tossing the phone to the side and brought my hands up, running them through my hair roughly. I tugged on them and leaned on my seat, breathing down heavily.

Alexandra's POV

"It's late, I'm going to put the babies to sleep." Jaden carried them up the stairs as my mother followed after him. I sat on the living room sofa and leaned on my elbows as I looked down, running my hands through my hair.

The door was opened and closed harshly with a slam. "Max? Baby what happened? Where were you?" I rushed toward him and cupped his face. "Are you okay?" My eyes widened when I was pulled into a hug and a heartbroken Max sobbed in my arms.

"I failed you, I'm so sorry, I hope you can forgive me someday." I hugged him tightly and ran my hands up and down his back to comfort him. I pulled away and took his face in my hands and looked at him deep in his eyes. "You didn't fail me and there is nothing to forgive, it was not your fault okay. Don't ever think otherwise, it wasn't your fault, and you didn't fail me."

"Lucy still has our daughter and it's my entire fault, I promised you that we were going to find her, but I failed." He took my hands away as he sniffed, looking the other side. "You didn't fail Max; it was bound to happen. She is the one who has to bring her back to us and we have to have fate. I feel it in here." I put his hand on my heart. "My heart tells me that our baby is okay, and that Lucy will soon bring her back."

"Let's just go to sleep okay, tomorrow is going to be another day." I walked with him up the stairs and into our bedroom. We took a shower together and cuddled in bed for the first time after weeks of sleeping separate.

I lay down on his chest and watched him sleep, he looks so peaceful and relax for the first time in a while. It took me a long time to realize that it was bound to happen, but I finally did, everything happened for a reason, and I have a feeling that it's all for the better.

I sighed deeply and caressed Max chin with the back of my fingers, feeling the softness of his skin on my fingers made me realize how much I missed him. It was stupid of me to close myself like it was the end of the world.

I should have been stronger for me and for my family; I now feel like I acted selfish. I always thought that I was the only one hurting but I forgot that we're a family, we are in this together, and if one falls everyone falls.

I grasped at my heart with parted lips, a feeling of breathlessness hit me, and I swung my legs off the bed. I took short breaths in and out as I headed to the door, slowly twisting the knob to get out of the room. I ran my hands up and down my arms as I made my way toward the stairs, stepping carefully down them.

I grabbed the railing breathing in and out as I stared at the door, something was telling me to go toward it, that something was behind that door. I pushed myself forward by the railing and headed toward the door carefully, my heart beating really fast as I slowly but surely reached the door.

I grabbed the handle in a tight grip and took a deep breath, exhaling slowly. I gulped down nervously and with my shakily hand I twisted the knob open, only to reveal a nearly passing out Lucy. "Oh my God." My hand slowly covered my mouth as I stared at a sweat dripping Lucy, her hair in a messy bun.

"Alexandra..." She handed me out Rebekah who looked so innocent; her big golden eyes staring back at me in wonder. I cocooned her closer to me and stared at Lucy with sympathy, she can be everything you want but I can't just leave her out here to die.

I secured my hold on Rebekah and hooked my arm under Lucy's arm, guiding her inside the house and toward the sofa. She lay down on the sofa and I went back to close the door. "I'll be right back." She nodded her head tiredly and closed her eyes for a few seconds.

I lingered my eyes on her before heading upstairs and twisted the knob slowly, walking toward the cribs to lay Rebekah down. I walked toward Max and shook him slightly. "Babe." I patted his shoulder until he woke up and looked at me.

"What happened?" I smiled between tears and cupped his face with the palm of my hand. "Is everything okay?" I wiped my tears away and nodded my head. "Then what is it?"

"Our baby is back, Lucy brought her back." He looked shock for a few seconds before he pulled me into a hug. "But..." He pulled away at that with furrowed eyebrows. "She's not okay, she needs help."

He swung his legs off the bed and headed toward Rebekah's crib. "Hey baby girl." She kicked her legs wildly and stared at Max wide-eyed. "We missed you so much." He leaned in to kiss her head and pulled away from her.

"I think she has a fever." Max nodded his head and pulled from the crib. "We need to help her Max." He sighed and walked toward me, leaning down to kiss my forehead. "We will."
