Chapter 11: Chapter 10 Sloan POV
I'm pacing outside the pack hospital when my phone vibrates in my pocket. I pick it up to see Sloans dad is calling. Dad, as in the one who raised her. Her biological father gave his life for our pack. He was a strong warrior but the pack wars took so many great lives from us.
"Hey Sloan, I know you're anxious. She will be fine. She is awake now but refusing to see you. Something about you rejecting her? Son, I hope that's not your intentions. She is a strong fighter and an endearing soul. She'd make a fine Alina for our pack. Is it fear of your father? The pack? Both?"
Sighing heavily I reply "It was both. But my father accepts her. I just worry about the dangers of being a Luna. Although you are right, she is an amazing warrior and I am sure the pack would love her. I told her that I wasn't rejecting her. She's just terrified because of my initial reaction. I handled that poorly." I kick the rocks in the gravel drive that runs alongside the hospital and internally kick myself for the way I treated her that first day. She didn't deserve me.
Her dad, George, continues on the other end of the phone, "Well she needs time. So just give her some space for a few days okay? Not to boss my alpha around, but my daughter comes first."
"Of course sir. Can you ask her to please ring me when she's ready to talk about things?"
Her dad agrees and hangs up as her mom comes back. I decide it's time for a run and take off into the nearby woods.
That evening is the semi annual Alpha meeting. And since I am the new Alpha, I am now required to attend. I'm putting my suit on when my father comes in the room. "Hey Sloan, have you heard from Willow?"
"No, George asked me to give her some space and wait for her move. I didn't mean to scare her. I just wanted to talk about things. I needed her to know the truth about me and how dangerous being my Luna could be so she knew it was HER choice. Not mine. My choice is her. Always. But if the dangers deter her, I will respect that."
"Son, I understand where you are coming from. I do. But the mate bond will pull her to you in spite of whatever perceived dangers there are. Tonight we will find if there is an issue. You will show yourself as Alpha of Alphas and we will know if anyone is willing to fight you for your title. You were chosen and the moon goddess will protect you."
I straighten my tie and respond, "You're right. Tonight a lot of things will come to light. I just hope the moon goddess meant for me to bring us together, not for us to be torn apart. Our packs are still recovering from the last wars."
