If they wanted to, and if they were powerful enough, a Firebird could burn it's foe half to death before the fight even started.

The Firebird puffed out a few fiery breaths that flew uncomfortable close to a some of the audience memners in the front stands before dissapating. It then flew around to showcase itself while it's human partner set up a giant ring perpendicular to the floor. The Firebird set the ring aflame and flew threw it, raising it's head at the end as if it was something to be proud of. 

The exhibition by the Beast-taming department ended up being a not-so-impressive circus that barely showcased the results of their efforts. The more welathy children that had more than enough opportunities to watch these small tricks were not impressed in the least.
