Chapter 37: There Are People You Shouldn't Touch
As Bast began to weaken, the tip of her rapier did not look as sharp as it previously did, angling towards the ground.
17,000 frostfiends surrounded the two girls, and worse, A Frost Archfiend.
Bast was feeling hopeless, but regret found no purchase in her heart, she smiled at her friend, closing her eyes, she let her arm fall to her side.
She was beaten.
A soundless light violently struck the icy ground, obliterating frostfiends in every direction. It crackled fiercely, sparks flying in every direction, a massive crater scarred and blackened the ice.
Four long seconds passed before the sound of thunder reached their ears, The form inside the crater stood, flickering with dense magical energy, As the energy began to disperse, the mans face became visible. "You've touched my friend, You've touched my wife, clearly, you have the unfortunate habit of touching things you shouldn't..." Ra spoke in a hoarse voice, pain and rage filled it, his eyes, like glowing embers, seemed to bleed.
A golden beam shot from Ra's eyes, and a
frostfiend instantly disintegrated.
The sword in Ra's hand held a solid form, Golden, mana swirled around its blade, the intensity converting its attributes, Ra gave off the aura of a King, his gaze was affixed to the beaten women huddled on the ground, Bast had Yu's head in her lap as she lightly brushed dark strands of hair from her face.
Ra disappeared.
Like a silent assassin he appeared at the center of the hoard of frostfiends, his blade sung a song of destruction, Where he swung, he carved a swath through their ranks, dozens fell where his blade would land, 100's died where he stepped, like a natural disaster Ra became the incarnation of a calamity. Alone, he sowed the seeds of death, and harvested their souls like a reaper, madness filling him, he breathed easier as they fell.
40 seconds.
That was all it took for Ra to decimate 17,000 Frostfiends, The Frost Archfiend was all that remained.
Before the current Ra, it wouldn't even fill the gap between his teeth.
He flew threw the air, his arm pulled back, glowing energy surrounding his body, a golden stream of light shrouded his blade, he plunged his sword with unbelievable speed and force through the Frost Archfiends icy skull, it collapsed into shards of ice, destroyed.
Ra flashed towards Yu and Bast, and holding them both in his arms, sped back towards their group.
Ra appeared in the circular cavern where everyone was huddled together in a circle, surrounding a small fire, the fire was less for warmth than it was for some small entertainment, dancing creatures frolicked at the heart of the flickering flames, and Ra, for a moment, was likewise entranced.
He sank against the far wall, watching this scene, Bast leaned against his shoulder, and watched as Ra laid Yu'ers head gently against his thigh, She had exhausted herself and still had yet to awaken.
"Ra, will we leave here tomorrow?"
He turned his head to look at her.
Studying her features illuminated by the flames, she had never seemed so beautiful before.
He stared at her quizzically, not speaking.
She couldn't see his quizzical look, she simply leaned into his shoulder and closed her eyes.
"I think we should leave, it's too dangerous." she urged, squeezing his arm tightly.
He nuzzled his face in her hair.
"It is because it is dangerous that we must go on." He said.
"The world itself is dangerous, if we are to run every time there is danger, then we can only wait to die." he finished.
Bast stared up at him with a dumbfounded expression.
She punched him heavily in the arm seeing him grin.
"Dummy, since when did you get so wise?" she bit his arm in annoyance.
Rubbing his now sore arm, Ra laughed at that.
"It is something my father was fond of saying to his men before each deployment, I often wondered why he always said it, it seems, I now know."
"You really miss him huh?" it wasn't a question, but Ra still nodded.
"Sometimes, when I dream, I can hear him speaking to me, he says he's alive."
Bast stroked his hand softly, comforting him.
Yu groaned in pain from her position on Ra's thigh, she started to sit up, Ra suppressed her with a palm.
"Slowly." he said as he eased up on the pressure.
Yu's face held mixed emotions, as she sat up she felt like a million ants had crawled into her skull, and in the next moment, as if a great torrent of water came crashing forward to smash against her forehead, she was very dizzy as she got to her feet, taking erratic steps back and forth as she attempted to stabilize herself.
Ra quickly got to his feet, and used his arms to coordinate her balance, He lightly brushed his lips against her head and held her until she could focus, she blushed, and a single tear streaked down her adorable face.
She flung herself into his arms and as if a dam had burst, the tears flowed like water, she hugged him tightly as she cried out.
"Big Brother! she sobbed.
Ra gently shushed her as he rocked her back and forth, she quickly fell asleep.
Sighing heavily, Ra sank back down, with a thought, he set up a barrier protecting this cavern, nothing would disturb them.
Wrapping his free arm around Bast, he soon drifted off to sleep.
