Ra could no longer remember when he had entered the library, his thoughts began to drift to Bast, he missed her and what's more, he wanted to experience this discovery with her. It was too much to take in by himself, he had so many questions and no one to ask. No one to share his thoughts with, he heaved a deep sigh and reached out toward the fourth Tome.
The energy was dense near this one, his mind felt clear and yet heavy as information filled his brain. Even the color of the energy surrounding this Tome was different from the rest, while the previous three had emanated a blue-white aura this one resonated a deep purple, it was almost sinister, as if evil had impregnated it's pages. He shook his head and grasped the leather bindings, it floated closer to him and a rush of air whipped his hair into a flurry as it flipped open before calming and the scene returned to normal. Ra ran a finger down the aged yellow pages, that were thick and smooth to the touch. He drew in a deep breath and began to read,
The Humans were dangerous, and I would be a pitiful excuse of a liar if I attempted to tell you we did not fear them, especially...Duat, the Human champion. A fierce warrior who stood 4 meters tall with the strength of 10 of them, he weilded a curved spear, its blade shaped like a crescent moon, seemingly possessing no weaknesses our kin could neither engage him at a distance or close combat, he excelled in every form of martial ability, when he took to the field, I am not ashamed to admit, we Dragons fled.
Apophis led the charge to strengthen our forces, we attacked the Elves and slowly we began to consolidate our power. The Elves are a curious race, power was something that was alien to them and yet familiar. They knew of it because they had it, but they saw no use in it. But this is not what made thek curious, what was curious was when they had arrived their skin was soft and light like polished jade, they had eyes like shining moons reflected in the oceans surface. Pools of silver that seemed to look at the world with a wisdom the Humans and yea we Dragons were unable to match. These we knew to be the High Elves of the Elven race. But now their eyes are like cold bronze amd their skin the color of tree bark, gone is the majestic aura that once resonated in their race, reduced to common creatures about as resplendent as a burdan toad.
They were quick things but that was nothing to speak of, intelligent- sure, but there are few races lacking in intellect. What set the Elves apart from the other races? Well, when we killed them...we advanced. Power the likes of which Dragonkind had never known was now present within our veins, our connection to the land grew stronger, our bodies doubled in size and we gained, quite surprisingly, magic...
Magic, it was truly incredible and an amazing feeling, the ability to cast spells, though none of us were proficient with it, Apophis immersed himself in study and experiments, I think... his desire for power has corrupted him somewhat. Apophis soon went into seclusion, during this time although we had grown stronger the Humans did not slouch either, But one piece of information came as a relief, the Human Duat- he too had disappeared, for what reason however, I do not know. All I managed to ascertain from the report was that he had beem confronted by the Red Dragon King, Ashuur, who had returned missing an entire foreleg and torn wings claiming responsibility for the deed of banishing Duat. However, when pressed for details, Ashuur was often vague, which led me to doubt the truth of his claims. Nevertheless it remains a fact that- at least for the time being, Duat is indeed gone.
Ra pressed a hand to his mouth to suppress his gasp, "Dad?" he quickly scanned the page for further mentions of his father but found none, dejected- he continued reading.
As usual we Dragons continued to patrol the entrance of Dragon Valley, we perched atop Dragonwall, we hid among the clouds, and we waited for the Humans to attack. However, none came. We repeated this for a day, two, a week passed and there were no attacks. We began to wonder, and then hope, have the Humans given up? No, their desire for the draconite is too strong, even after killing thousands of Dragons with the Fallen rising from the dead harvesting it was no longer possible. They must be planning something, this I firmly believed, but a year passed, then two. It has been a decade since the Humans had last led an assault on Dragonwall, and while the Humans had snuck into Egradrim on rare occasions the fighting had stopped. We did not harm the Humans though we knew of their excursions inside our walls, we simply pretended we did not notice and allowed them to come and go freely. We did however begin stationing lookouts on the various hidden passageways the Humans had left for themselves, accepting we may be but not stupid.
During this year we made a discovery, Rank.
If one way to say that the Evolved form was a Stage then this new discovery would undoubtedly be a Rank. We found that those who achieved higher Ranks were no longer comparable to Dragons of the same stage.
Said Dragon would experience an increase in size, speed and overall abilities, it was a qualitative improvement in power among our race and it involved the dragon soul.
Our dragon soul is our most heavily guarded secret, so I will not say too much about it here in case these works fall into the hands of our enemies, but I'll say this, what would happen if we could obtain a second soul, and more importantly a soul many times more powerful than the one we possess? This new 'soul' is called anima, it is best defined as the evolution of one's spirit and possessing one is necessary to advance one's Rank, because the following Rank is truly incredible it has changed our ability to contend against the Humans. Immortal. Indeed, as I've said, achieving this Rank would make one immortal, however this does not mean that we cannot die. The immortal ranked Dragons soon discovered that their scales no longer experienced decay but would instead harden. Their sight would not diminish but improve and their wings would not lose the strength to hold them aloft, they were frozen in time in their most optimal state. This was a boon for dragonkind.
