Chapter 89: Ascending The Tower

Uhr raised an eyebrow but said nothing, his eyes lingered on the softly shimmering wings on his daughter's back, after a short while he turned and led them from the main hall.

As they walked Ra found himself in a state of perpetual awe as they made their way through the tower. Everywhere he looked he saw fairies hovering mere feet above the floor as they flitted throughout the tower.

Masara had been whispering to him all the while, explaining that garnered his curiosity with surprising patience.

Uhr was listening quietly and nodding his head as he listened to his daughter respond to Ra's questions.

"The tower stands on a lode, thousands of lodes criss-cross many worlds and realms, forming a network, this generates power that Wizards can draw on. Wizard's carry lodestones, these are small fragments of much larger lodes that connect Wizard's to their power source." Masara explained,

"Wait," said Ra abruptly cutting her off, "What are Wizards?"

Masara eyed him carefully, she seemed to be concealing her amusement with some difficulty, "Are there no Wizards where you come from?" her smile was poorly hidden.

Ra shook his head, unamused.

Uhr chose this moment to cut in, "Wizards are magic wielders who call power from the Origin God," he explained, and to Ra's surprise, Uhr began to call forth his power. "Just as you expel breath, the Origin God expels magic," he said as swirls of deep purplish energy began to emanate from him. Ra's eyes flew wide in shock as he felt an immense amount of pressure bearing down on him, making it difficult to breathe.

Ra refused to allow it to suppress him and forced himself to remain standing, even as sweat poured off of his skin in waves with the effort. "but just as your breath is finite so too is this power that must eventually return to the source to be expelled once more." Uhr said quietly, the energy dissipating and returning to normal. Ra was breathing hard, a profound ache had set into his physique and he remained silent for a while before saying, "So where is this Origin God? Have you met him? Is he powerful?" Uhr laughed, "I can answer your questions, but not here." he said, chuckling.

Ra nodded and continued to follow him through the tower.

Willing his body to recover as they went.

The method of travel inside the tower was intricate, utilizing a system of platforms that would teleport them from place to place in rapid succession, it was confusing but Ra had managed to gain an understanding of how it worked after using them for a while.

From what he had seen, the orange portals always sent them to upper floors, the green portals only connected to other green portals, purple portals connected to a private space, and the blue portals sent them to lower floors.

However, that wasn't what was confusing, what was confusing was how they would need to continually move from higher floors to lower floors to enter green portals to ascend the tower. In fact, only one green portal connected to the tower's top floor, their destination.

Still, the atmosphere inside the tower as they climbed it was strangely calming, and magic permeated every inch of the place like a living beast.

There were no runes, Ra could only feel a primordial sense of power resonating here.

It was Mana, and yet it was not, but something more. It felt as ancient as the remnant aura of Elder Gods, and yet far more powerful than any he had ever experienced.

This was concentrated mana with no man-made purpose, it simply was.

"There are 59 floors inside the tower," Uhr was saying, snapping Ra out of his reverie "each is situated on a lode, have you ever seen a lode?"

Ra shook his head,

"Naturally, naturally, no matter, you'll see one soon enough, now the range of these lodes are extended by obelisks, you'll learn about those..." Uhr continued as they entered another green portal and jumped to the 55th floor.

Ra's mind had long drifted from the conversation, nearly forgetting his entire purpose for being here.

He had not expected the tower to be so big, from the outside it shouldn't have been more than 10 stories, but inside- it was practically another world.

By the time they had reached the 56th floor Ra had seen Fairies with wings of colors he had never knew existed, each one was remarkable and unique, but all sharing the same mystical beauty.

Still, Ra glanced at Masara's shimmering yellow wings, none of them compared to hers.

On the 57th floor there were 4 portals the usual green and orange portals were present but Ra was surprised to find that the blue portals were absent, instead there was a white portal and a red portal, Uhr chose the white portal, from the white portal they entered an orange portal and they were now on the 42nd floor.

Ra felt himself begin to sweat, "Is this a stall tactic?" he glanced about, calmly sweeping his gaze over Uhr's expression before speaking.

"Sir, we were just on the 57th floor, why then have we descended to the 42nd?"
