Chapter 32: C32: Horror game?

Dong Zhen POV and Added Third View POV~

With the ongoing dialogue between the two doctors—one male and one female—Dong Zhen is also adding some spice here and there before spewing it on the stream.

The dialogues are simple, yet laced with sarcasm. For instance, when they encounter a squirrel in the game, they bicker like a couple with each other which adds to the humor.

"The game details are quite impressive. The dialogue is intricately crafted, much like in Undertale, and very detailed," I comment as I control the characters, navigating through the game.

For example, when they come across a road sign, Neil makes a silly remark, wondering if the sign might get stolen from the mountains. The humor in these dialogues adds a light touch, but it also makes me, as a streamer, feel somewhat redundant.

Normally, I'm the one making these types of sarcastic comments in the stream, but this game does it for me.

Great. The game's humor is on point. Now what am I supposed to say? I want to flip this game (ノ ̄□ ̄)ノ ~┻━┻

"Is this a plot-driven game? It feels a little slow," I mutter to myself, intrigued.

Apart from opening a stone-like object in the middle of the gameplay, it seems like the whole game revolves around walking and engaging in simple conversations. There isn't much in terms of mechanics or action.

I can't help but compare it to Undertale, which had a bit more variety with its bullet-hell battle sequences. The only truly outstanding aspect here is the music.

From Mirror to Undertale to, To the Moon, the soundtrack fits beautifully with the game's atmosphere.

Visually, To the Moon, created by Chen Xu, has improved slightly over the pixelated look of previous RPG Maker games, but I'd say it's still pretty average. It doesn't stand out visually, but it doesn't need to, I suppose.

As I reflect on all this, the two doctors, Neil Watts and Eva Rosalene, arrive at their destination—a large house.

When they knock on the door, a middle-aged woman, who introduces herself as Lily, answers. She usually takes care of an elderly man named Johnny, and the kids playing piano inside are her children.

Lily leads the doctors upstairs, while on the first floor, her children squabble over who gets to play the piano next. Eventually, they sit side by side and begin playing a tune.

Wait a minute, that's the same piano piece from the car accident scene earlier.

Is this the game's theme song?

I wonder.

Under their bickering, Eva Rosalene and Neil Watts, The doctors are introduced to the situation of Johnny, the protagonist of this game. Johnny is now bedridden, in a coma for a long time, with only the movement of vital signs on the machine which indicates that he is still alive.

According to the communication, Johnny only has a few days left. His last wish, as he lies dying, is to go to the moon. However, why he wants to go to the moon remains a mystery, as Lily, the nanny, explained that although Johnny was her employer, he never really spoke to anyone and was generally a strange person.

"Good grief, the old man has wild ideas! He wants to go to the moon, so the main goal of this game is to figure out why he wants to go to the moon, and then help him achieve this wish?" I thought to myself.

"Is this some kind of puzzle-solving game? Nice, I can handle these! IQ games no problem, I have 144 IQ, and I excel at these games!" I said confidently to the stream as I patted my thigh with a light slap.

After talking to Lily, I got a clue: I need some key pieces of Johnny's memory before I can enter his mind and modify the memory to help him achieve his wish. Since human memory is extensive, the machine can't access all of it at once, so a medium or important things related to his memories are needed.

I decided to let Dr. Eva work on setting up the machines while I controlled Dr. Neil as we wandered around the house looking for clues.

"Wow, Johnny's place is huge! The guy is loaded!" I thought as I explored the big house using Neil.

"But seriously, this guy is lucky to have me. If you want to go to the moon, old man, we'll make it happen. Heck, if you wanted to go to Mars, I'd arrange that too!"

☀🌴༼▀̿ Ĺ̯▀̿༽ I muttered to the stream while controlling Neil.

I headed downstairs and spoke to the two children on the first floor. I asked them to show me around the house, hoping they might help me find some useful clues. But first, they made me get them a lollipop stick.

"These little brats are annoying, but fine, I'll let it slide. I'm an adult, no need to stoop to their level," I said with a chuckle while making a determined face toward the camera, which got me a couple of rose gifts from fellow streamers.

In the kitchen, I spotted the candy stick on a shelf, but Neil was too short to reach it. I had to move a stool and step on it to grab the stick.

"Hey, don't get any ideas! I could reach that, it's just the doctor in the game who can't, not me! I'm 1.92 meters tall, you think I can't grab something off a shelf? No way!" I said, addressing the teasing comments in the live chat.

"Just to set the record straight, I'm 1.92 meters tall—the kind of height where I can jump and dunk!" I added, with a hint of pride.

Then followed there was a series of trolls and emoji "You can jump and dunk, but you can't, ¯\_(⊙_ʖ⊙)_/¯, ʅ(ツ)ʃ etc"

After retrieving the candy stick, I gave it to the kids, and in return, they provided me with some valuable clues.

When Johnny was still able to move, it seemed that he would often go to the basement, and the two children played the piano music that Johnny had been playing when he was healthy.

Under the guidance of the two children, I came to a small room in the basement.

It was pitch black, and there was a lamp beside it.

But the moment I turned on the light of the lamp, the soundtrack of the game changed instantly.

Weird, gloomy, and uneasy, coupled with the dim lights, there were a lot of origami rabbits folded in colored paper sprawled everywhere, and the tones in the background were haunting.

"Fuk, why did it suddenly turn into a ghost scene!"

Without the slightest bit of precaution, the sudden atmosphere gave me goosebumps.

It wasn't a big room; it looked like a warehouse.

The floor was full of hand-folded rabbits, and there was a platypus doll on the table near the door.

It was meant to be scary, it wasn't exactly terrifying. (b ^_^)b

But the psychological toll was real!

Even the barrage in the live broadcast room was blowing up at this point.

-----------------

"This atmosphere feels like the underworld has suddenly risen!"

"Is this secretly a horror game?"

"Guys, keep spamming the chat, I will feel alive. I'm getting creeped out!"

"Why are you all panicking? It's broad daylight, there's nothing to be afraid of!"

-----------------

I glanced at the barrage filled with dramatic comments, some ridiculing my face, So I adjusted my mindset and started searching the room.

That platypus doll could be taken and seemed to be a key item.

As for the game, while the atmosphere was pretty eerie, I had checked it out beforehand and there wasn't a horror label on it.

It was just tagged as an adventure and story-driven game.

No need to panic, no need to panic—what if it is a horror game? I will take some risk to hack the ghost with a torch!

I'm 1.92 meters tall, with a build that can dunk with a jump. Can a game really scare me? No, it can't

"Alright, look at you, all scared for nothing!" I mused to myself in silence, then I took a big breath and start moving my hands again.

"Let's keep moving forward and figure out what's going on with this game, why the old man wants to go to the moon, and what secrets these paper rabbits hold. We'll uncover it all soon enough." I said this toward the stream

I chatted with the viewers in the livestream and started exiting the room for the next game's plot.
