Chapter 1: Chapter 1: Prologue

The world we knew had ended, the surface had been affected by a deadly virus that mutated animals into monsters wreaking havoc but then humans decided to give up on the surface and went underground and using cutting edge technology they developed intricate underground paths and built cities, but there was a problem these cities could only hold so many people and the rich took this opportunity to leave the poor on the surface, but what they didn't was that humans would eventually adapt to this environment and evolve in strength.

Somewhere on the surface world, with buildings and rubble scattered everywhere, the sky was cloud and the air was humid, the roads and buildings were filled with overgrown weed, there was nothing that was left intact, there was also a tint of green in the sky, it was a sickening color to the eyes of someone who saw it, this was the virus that had infected the world, turning animals into berserk mutated beasts

A grotesque mutated beast was stalking the narrow streets of the old city, it was a twisted looking rabbit like beast, it had no fur or skin, leaving only exposed muscles and sinew, it towered over two meters in height with fangs that protruding out of its mouth, they were fangs that looked strong enough to crush anything it took a bite of, its long thin claws looked sharp enough to fell down even a bear and its eyes were glowing red in color full of malice and violence, it was presently chewing on a dead mutated beast that it had just hunted

Yet it was unaware that itself was being stalked by a hunter

Five hundred meters away from it was a broken down SUV that had overgrown weed coming out of its windows and within this overgrown weed was a young boy who looked to be in his teens, his eyes were staring intently at the mutated beast not losing any focus so as not to stray from his target, in his hand he gripped a machete that looked a little rusted

This boy had short black hair that was matted with sweat, with a dark skin tone, his face was currently covered in dirt and grime, giving him a battle worn appearance

Taking his time the boy stared at the creature intently as he waited for the right opportunity to strike his target

The creature was going to be his dinner today

That was when the creature got comfortable and sat down next to its food to eat. The boy saw this as an opportunity as he got out of the SUV slowly but surely, his footsteps were steady careful not to startle the creature as it feasted on its meal

He would make this fast as he did not want to fight the creature and go home injured, it was a long way to his hiding place and the streets at night were dangerous as they were filled with nocturnal beasts that hunted in the night

Getting closer and closer to the creature until he was about fifty meters away from he gripped his rusted machete as he looked at the feasting beast

With a shout in his mind he sprinted hoping to kill the beast without it noticing

With a quick swipe of his blade at the back of the beast's neck

Blood sprayed out of the beast's neck as it let out a loud howl

Roaaaar

It quickly got up looking at its attacker with hatred as it immediately charged at the boy with its claws much to the boy's surprise as he had thought that he would finish it in one blow

But the beast charging at him was not dead. Dodging the beast's claws he swiped his blade once again at the back of its neck decapitating it's head from its shoulders prompting a large spray of blood

"Guess it needed to blows"

With a small voice the boy retrieved some rope from his pockets and tied up the body of the beast as he took it's head and threw it in the opposite direction he was dragging the beast's body.

Walking down the dilapidated streets of the old city the boy could see all sorts of stuff from old broken down cars to old buildings and broken down billboards

There was nothing indicating that people had once lived in this city, it was completely a ghost town.

The boys name was Caeul he had no last name, his name was given to him by his dead parents, he had a big sister that was always sick due to her not being able to adapt to the virus filled environment, he remembered what his parents used to tell him about the old world when everything was beautiful nad filled with hope and not dull and filled with suffering as today, he remembered them telling him stories about the old humans and how they migrated to the underground kingdom leaving those who could not afford to go there to survive in this harsh environment and he could also remember how his parents had fantasized about going to the underground kingdom, about how they had promised him that they would one day see how beautiful the underground kingdom was

But life was nothing fair as his parents one day went to hunt for some mutated beasts but never came back making him and his sister presume they had died from the beasts but things had not ended as soon his sister fell sick due to being rejected by the virus and was not able to adapt leaving him to fend for both of them.
