Chapter 60: Wooden Stakes
Adrian's mocking laughter filled the air as he watched Elias's wooden weapons take shape. "Do you really think you stand a chance against me?" he taunted, his own essence aura beginning to crackle around him like a storm of lightning.
Elias charged forward, his wooden sword raised high, but Adrian was ready for him. With lightning-fast reflexes, he met Elias's blow, the force of their clashing essence techniques sending shockwaves through the street.
As their weapons locked together, Adrian let out a hiss of pain, his eyes widening in surprise. Elias grinned, a fierce light in his eyes. "My essence technique is specially designed to harm Sanguine essence wielders like you," he explained, his voice filled with grim satisfaction.
Lyra watched the battle unfold, her heart racing with a mix of fear and awe. As an alchemist, she had studied essence techniques extensively, but seeing them in action was something else entirely.
"Elias's wood creation technique is impressive," she murmured to herself, her mind already racing with the possibilities. "By infusing his essence into the wood, he's able to create weapons that can actually harm Sanguine essence wielders. It's a brilliant strategy."
But even as she spoke, Lyra could see that Elias was struggling to keep up with Adrian's lightning-fast attacks. The vampire's essence aura was like nothing she had ever seen before, a crackling storm of energy that seemed to grow stronger with each passing second.
"Elias, be careful!" Lyra cried out, her voice filled with desperation. "He's too strong!"
But before Elias could respond, one of Adrian's vampire companions stepped forward, his own essence aura flaring to life around him. "I think it's time we even the odds a bit," he said, his voice smooth and dangerous.
The vampire introduced himself with a mocking bow. "Luciano, at your service," he said, his eyes glinting with a predatory light. "And I'm afraid I can't let you continue this little display of bravado."
With a flick of his wrist, Luciano sent a bolt of essence energy hurtling towards Elias, the force of the blow sending him flying backwards into a nearby wall. Lyra screamed, her heart in her throat as she watched Elias crumple to the ground, his wooden weapons clattering to the cobblestones beside him.
"No!" she cried out, her own essence aura flaring to life around her in a desperate attempt to protect her friend. But even as she poured all of her energy into the technique, Lyra knew that it wouldn't be enough.
Luciano and Adrian advanced on the fallen Elias, their essence auras pulsing with a dark and terrifying power. Lyra's mind raced, desperately searching for a way to save her friend, but she knew that she was no match for the vampires' strength.
