Chapter 16: Lilith Bloodstone

As Lyra and Clara were about to leave their dormitory, a petite girl with porcelain skin, long, silky black hair, and piercing blue eyes entered the room. She was dressed in an impeccably tailored uniform, the fabric clearly of the highest quality. Her posture exuded confidence and superiority, and her delicate features were arranged in a haughty expression.

Before the girl could speak, Lyra's telepathic senses tingled, warning her that this newcomer was trouble. The girl's emotions were a mix of disdain, arrogance, and a hint of malice.

"Well, well, well," the girl said, her voice dripping with condescension. "What do we have here? A couple of dirty-bloods cluttering up the dormitory?"

Clara stiffened, her warm brown eyes narrowing at the insult. "Excuse me? Who do you think you are, barging in here and throwing around offensive slurs?"

The petite girl smirked, her blue eyes glittering with amusement. "I am Lilith Bloodstone, of the esteemed Bloodstone family. And you are?"

Lyra stepped forward, her voice steady despite the unease she felt. "I'm Lyra Ravenscar, and this is my roommate, Clara Ravenscroft. We're both new students here at Ashborne Academy."

Lilith's perfectly shaped eyebrows rose in mock surprise. "Ravenscar and Ravenscroft? I've never heard of your families. Are you sure you belong here, among the elite Sanguine Essence users?"

Clara's cheeks flushed with anger, but Lyra placed a calming hand on her arm. "Our families may not be famous Sanguine Essence users, but we've earned our places here through our own merits and abilities."

Lilith scoffed, her lips curling into a sneer. "Merits and abilities? Don't make me laugh. I bet you're just a couple of weak, underdeveloped Essence users who got in through some kind of charity program."

Lyra felt her own anger rising, but she refused to stoop to Lilith's level. "Think what you want, Lilith. We're here to learn and grow, just like everyone else. Now, if you'll excuse us, we have places to be."

With that, Lyra gently tugged Clara's arm, and the two girls brushed past Lilith, leaving the petite girl fuming in their wake. As they walked down the hallway, Clara let out a frustrated sigh. "Can you believe the nerve of that girl? Calling us dirty-bloods and questioning our right to be here?"

Lyra nodded, her brow furrowed with concern. "I know, Clara. But we can't let people like her get to us. We'll prove our worth through our actions and achievements, not through petty insults and family names."

Clara smiled, her eyes softening with gratitude. "You're right, Lyra. Thank you for standing up for us back there. I'm lucky to have you as my roommate and friend."

Lyra returned the smile, feeling a warmth spread through her chest. "I feel the same way, Clara. Together, we'll face whatever challenges come our way, and we'll show everyone what we're truly capable of."

As they continued their exploration of Ashborne Academy, Lyra couldn't shake the feeling that their encounter with Lilith Bloodstone was only the beginning of the trials and tribulations they would face in this strange and wondrous world of Essence users and ancient secrets.
