Chapter 143: Knights of Solaris
Lyra watched in awe as Silas launched a volley of glass shards with precise control, his essence technique almost poetic in its execution. "His control is amazing," she murmured, her eyes wide. This was no ordinary human; Silas was pushing back a full-fledged Sanguine with a skill that rivaled seasoned warriors.
Elias, beside her, was not as captivated. He grabbed Lyra's hand firmly. "The Knights of Solaris can handle themselves," he said urgently, pulling her away. "We need to get out of here."
As they rushed toward the exit, they were suddenly surrounded by Sanguines. Luciano, from the Nightfall Mafia, appeared with a sneer. "I knew Dante should never have trusted you," he taunted. "Looks like I'll have to teach you this lesson again."
Luciano charged, his fist glowing with vampiric energy. Elias readied himself, his skills much improved. He dodged and countered Luciano's strikes, his weapons disintegrating upon impact but swiftly reforged in an instant. Lyra watched, amazed by Elias's newfound strength; he was now able to hold his own, turning the fight into an even match.
With Lyra standing behind him, Elias gained the upper hand on Luciano and landed a devastating blow. They began to move towards the exit, but the doorway seemed to stretch further away, an illusion of space distorted by dark magic. Suddenly, bats converged, forming into Sophia Shadowheart.
"Look what we have here," Sophia taunted, her shadows swelling around them. She drew Elias closer. "You are quite the handsome fellow. It's too bad you have to die now."
Before she could strike, an ice spear hurtled through the air towards Sophia. With a flicker of shadow, she dispersed, reemerging moments later, freeing Elias and Lyra from her grasp. Kai, their unexpected ally, had thrown the spear.
"You guys go ahead; I'll cover you," Kai said calmly, facing Sophia as she gathered her rage. "I'll handle her."
Sophia, enraged, unleashed a torrent of shadow bats towards Lyra and Elias. Kai, quick on his feet, created portals that absorbed the shadow bats and redirected them back at her. "Foolish human, you think you can stand a chance against me, the Sanguine princess of Nightfall?" Sophia scoffed, her shadows swirling dangerously.
Kai stood his ground, his expression determined. "I'm not just any human," he retorted smartly, preparing for her next attack.
As Kai engaged Sophia, Lyra and Elias seized the moment. The chaotic distraction allowed them to sprint towards the increasingly distant door. Behind them, the sounds of battle echoed, a mix of shadow and ice clashing in the grand halls of the Nightfall Mansion.
Lyra glanced back once, seeing Kai manage against Sophia with impressive cunning and agility. Her heart pounded with a mix of fear and hope—they were close to escape, yet the danger was far from over.
Elias pulled her forward. "Keep moving, Lyra! We're almost out!"
