Chapter 18: Freshman
As Lyra entered the classroom, her eyes were immediately drawn to the homeroom teacher. He was a tall, brooding man with dark green hair, his youthful appearance belying his position as an educator. The teacher's piercing gaze swept over the room, silencing the chatter as he introduced Lyra as the new student.
Instantly, the classroom erupted into a cacophony of voices, some exclaiming about Lyra's cuteness, while others commented on a peculiar scent they detected. "Is that the smell of a werewolf?" one student asked, confusion and curiosity evident in their tone.
Another student chimed in, "No, she smells different. But there's something nice about her scent."
The professor raised his hand, his commanding presence quieting the room once more. He nodded to Lyra, encouraging her to introduce herself to the class.
Lyra felt her nerves flutter as she faced her new classmates, their eyes fixed upon her with a mix of interest and skepticism. "Hello, everyone," she began, her voice wavering slightly. "I'm Lyra, and I'm from Umbra Forest."
A hush fell over the room, the students exchanging glances of surprise and unease. Umbra Forest, located near the Lunar Plains, was known to be a stronghold of Lycan dominance, and the revelation of Lyra's origins seemed to unsettle some of her classmates.
Sensing the tension, Lyra quickly added, "But I'm not Sanguine or Lycan. My Essence technique is a basic level of telepathy."
The class murmured in acknowledgment, some nodding their heads in understanding, while others still regarded her with a hint of wariness. The professor, sensing Lyra's discomfort, stepped in to redirect the focus of the conversation.
"Thank you for your introduction, Lyra," he said, his deep voice carrying a note of reassurance. "Now, let's discuss your schedule. Here at Ashborne Academy, your studies will be divided into four main categories, with breaks for lunch and independent study."
As the professor delved into the details of Lyra's curriculum, she felt a wave of relief wash over her. The attention of the class had shifted away from her origins and Essence technique, and she could focus on the excitement of starting her new academic journey.
