Chapter 1: 1
"Ronoh! Get up! Half of the day is already over!" I heard as I snapped my eyes open.. but these eyes are not the ones you are used to. Me and everyone else on my planet is a Na'vi, avatars. We are blue, with pointed, sensitive ears that pick up everything. We have dark blue markings to help us blend in, and long, dark hair. We live in Pandora, a very colorful, lush planet with dangerous animals and sensitive plants. There are many different clans. The Omayicaya, Anurai, Tipani, Metkayina, Tayrangi, Tawkami, Olangi, and Kekunan Clans. Pandora is a very, very large planet. That must have been why humans had come to it. They had tried to teach the Na'vi English and tried to get them to leave, but a few years before I was born, they had been driven out.
It was a peaceful life in the Tayrangi Clan. We all had Ikrans, or Mountain Banshee, large dragon-like creatures, from a young age. Not to brag or anything, but I could ride one since I was 9. I have always loved exploring.. that is most likely the reason I wanted to see Earth so bad. But I can't, and that was that. The others of my clan never understood my fascination, and I'm not sure I did either.
"Give me a second," I growled to the Na'vi who was growling at me. I rolled out of the net that served as beds and went to grab some berries. I tossed a handful in my mouth.
I ran up to the top of the cliffs, peering over the edge. I walked backwards, then sprinted as fast as I could over the edge. I called a sharp four note call, and my Ikran, Martinerion came hurtling down another cliff, diving to catch me. I shouted in joy. There was nothing better than riding your Ikran over lakes and forests, looking down at Thanators, big black lion-like beasts with a ferocious temper, hunting, or Viperwolves, black wolf-like predators with a nasty habit of ganging up on the weak, caring for their pups. The best part was that they couldn't hurt him when he was on Martinerion.
But the worst part was that I had flown too far. By the time it began to get dark, I had no idea where I was. We had flown in multiple directions so we couldn't fly back the way we came. Martinerion was getting tired, so we landed on a cliff. I climbed up a tree in the hope that nothing would come to kill me. I looked over at the rising moon, worrying. Eventually, my mind went blank and I fell asleep.
When I awoke, I heard a pack of Viperwolves barking and snarling, searching for something not far from my tree. I had a bad feeling. I leapt down from the tree to try and find Martinerion. He was gone! I growled in fear and worry. It was then that I noticed a trail of blood leading away from the tree. I pinned my ears and followed the trail. I called the four notes, but there was no response. My heart pounded in my chest. Then.. a yelp! Two yelps! Maybe he was fighting back! I ran forward to see a trail of dead or injured Viperwolves. I counted. There were about 12 in total.. but how did Martinerion fight them if he was injured? That was when I heard the shrill cry of my Ikran. I ran forward, grabbing my spear. It was a Thanator!
I screeched in fury. There was no way I was going to beat a Thanator, but I had to try. The beast turned around and snarled at me, the plates behind its head rattling. I snarled back at it, my teeth bared. I lunged toward it, but was knocked off my feet. A shrill cry echoed in my ears. I was in my stomach, my spear a few feet from me. I was able to turn just so to see the bow of a Na'vi pointed at my heart.
