Chapter 12: A night's ride (11)

Jake

Grace. A very nice name. A name for a person with a completely different personality than a sex worker. She is a sex worker. A damn sex worker! I still remember the first day, vividly. I and my friends were bragging about our popularity. Laughing and teasing each other when Ethan gave Mason a challenge to kiss a nerdy girl that was sitting alone and reading in the cafeteria. That girl was weird, I mean who studies in the cafeteria instead of eating? Also, she was alone. Although, I think I understand why she was alone. Who would want to have a friend like her? But she didn't know that she was walking in a wolf den.

Mason walked up to her and gave her one of his charming smile that makes girls fall in love instantly. She looked up and blushed. Her ears and cheeks were a dark shade of red, and with that I knew Mason had already won. I shook my head at him while smirking as he glanced my way and winked. He said something to her and if it was possible, she turned more red. She stood from her chair and Mason turned his face to a side. He leaned in, showing his cheek to her. She leaned in to kiss it which made me raise my brow. Ethan had asked him to kiss her on the lips, so why was he forcing his cheeks to her? The question was answered when the nerd leaned in to kiss his cheek, and he turned his head at the last moment, pecking her lips instead.

We all burst out laughing. She looked shocked and Mason smirked at her. Then her expression turned shameful when she heard us laughing. She picked up her stuff and ran out of the cafeteria.

Mason put his hands in pockets and walked back to us with a shit eating grin. Like she just won a battle.

We all praised him, giving him high five and slapping his shoulders. He sat down next to me. He picked an apple, turning to me and raised his eyebrow, smirking. Yeah. This cocky bastard has been my best friend since we were kids. A very loyal, true and a great friend. Sometimes I think I've got lucky to have a friend like him. For a selfish person like me he sure had been a jackpot. He will do anything for me, die or kill. I would do the same for him. But he can be a pain in the ass, sometimes. An evil one, I must say.

We both raised our fists and bumped it with each other. I turned to our group when Mason spoke. I already knew it was bad. “It's your turn now, Jake.” He said. I was popular among females, so I was up for it, even though I didn't want it. I looked up to find Ethan staring behind me. Looking at the girl who just came and sat down to eat. She was with another girl. Maybe a friend. I smirked.

“Okay.” I said and walked over to her. She opened her mouth to say something to her friend when I took a seat beside her, interrupting her from speaking. My first impression of her was, Wow. She was beautiful. Not like a super — model beautiful but natural beautiful. She wasn't fat and nor thin, just like an ordinary girl but what caught my attention was her face. Her face made her look mature and alive. She has this weird aura around her that made her attractive.

I thought she would welcome my offer about kissing her when I proposed it to her, but she rejected me. She rejected me badly and much more rudely than expected in front of my people. It made a serious dent on my reputation. She walked out of the cafeteria, leaving me with my humiliation. Everything that happened afterwards was for assurance that she understood who she messed up with. But today was a shock to me. I wasn't expecting her to be there. It was Ethan who made the call. When she said that 'I' begged for her time, that was utterly unbelievable. Ethan begged her, for her time? The deal came into my mind when I saw her. I know I was cruel about it but it was better for her to accept the deal and agree with me. I needed to get my work done. My father was behaving like a jerk lately. I don't know what crawled up his

ass when he threw those terms at me for taking his business.

I snapped back to present.

As I walked out of the room, I took a sideways glance at her to find her following after me. She maintained almost one foot distance between us as we walked. Maybe she sensed that I was staring at her because she looked up at me and asked “What?” When I didn't say anything and just stared blankly at her, she turned her face and stared ahead, muttering something under her breath.

An insult that was directed at me, I guessed.

We came outside the building and walked towards my car. I opened my car with the key. She hesitated when I walked to her side and opened the passenger seat door for her, but she reluctantly took her seat. I closed the door and walked to my side of the door. I opened it and took a seat. I fastened my seat belt and looked at her side to find her seat belt wasn't on.

I heaved out a sigh.

I turned to her seat, and leaned in. Her breath hitched with a shock. My face was so close to her that I felt her breath on my face. She looked like she was caught off guard.

“What the hell, dude? I'm not letting you kiss me because you know my secret.” She spoke. I picked the seat belt from her side and buckled it at her side. As it made a clicking sound her eyes snapped at the place it came from. I moved back and saw a hint of flush on her cheeks. Her blushing made her look adorable. I didn't say anything just started driving.

We drove in silence through the dark night. It was an hour drive from here, so I opened the radio channel. It started playing “The night we met” but none of us said anything, and she didn't comment about the song. So I let it play. She never looked my way but I knew she was very much aware of my presence like I was to hers.

When we were about to reach her house she told me to stop around the block but I didn't listen and stopped my car at her house. I found it weird that she didn't even ask how I knew her address.

“My address was in my file, right?” I internally smiled at her intelligence. I gave her a look and she rolled her eyes. She got out and I followed her. She turned and looked across the street worriedly. She gave me a glare and said “Why are you coming out? I'm home, now, goodbye.” I walked to her side, making her body stiff in alarm. I shook my head at her, internally. Why doesn't she realize that I don't hurt women? Not physically, at least. I never force myself on them. I trapped her in between my arms and car.

“How about you give me a goodbye kiss?” I asked in a deep voice. I saw her relax, not in a good way. Her body was still stiff and her black eyes blazed fire, like a tigress who will tear you apart if given a slight provocation.

I pressed my face closer to her, making her turn face to a side. I kissed her cheek and whispered “Goodnight Grace.” I turned and walked back to my car. Giving her last glance and drove away.
