Chapter 2: Sealed Fate
I was on my way to the exit after a ponderous day, my career has turned complicated, I wanted to go far away and never come back, but I also wanted to show myself I can handle this. While I was in my own and personal debate with myself I decided to go for a coffee at Yummy & Ready, the most famous coffee shop in the city.
The way there, it caught my attention a guy on the other side of the street that looked at me with nosey eyes. I couldn't deny it, he was very handsome but he also was a simple guy on the other side of the street so I didn't give him a lot of value.
At the coffee shop, I felt a little bit more relaxed so I did order a coffee, some cookies and then I sat at a table next to a window overlooking the street. And then it happened... it was very strange... the same guy I saw before in the street was entering the place, I don't know why but he has managed to catch my attention weirdly, it seems he was looking for someone with his gaze.
I don't know how long I was looking at him, but I think he noted because at the moment that we crossed looks he didn't take his eyes off me. The way he was looking at me made me nervous without knowing why, so I did put down my gaze and, when I decided to watch him again, he wasn't there anymore, instead, he was avoiding a couple of tables to reach mine. I did put down my gaze again wishing with all my strengths he'll pass by and that I was overreacting.
When he stood in front of me, the sweat in my hands started to sprout with a sensation in my feet that wasn't completely unpleasant but outside I maintained a posture of indifference without look up. He was the first to saying something.
— Is it bussy this seat? — he said with a sassy smile.
— No. — I answered with indifference.
When he listened to my answer, he took a seat still looking at me and then he introduces himself.
— Forgive my daring, my name is Kim Jong-dae, but you can call me Chen. — he said stretching his hand to shake mine.
— It's a pleasure, I am Jordana McClane. — I said shaking his hand.
— It's a cute and uncommon name.
— Yep, you're not the first to tell me that, but thank you anyway.
— You're welcome. — he said winking at me — Would you like to...?
— Here's your order miss. — said the waiter interrupting our conversation while she was putting on the table what I asked for a few minutes ago.
Damn!, I said to myself. Chen didn't finish his request and I don't think he dares to return to it now.
I was right, at the moment the waiter left us, he quickly changed the chat topic.
— Are you passing through or frequent this place?
— Honestly, it's the first time I come here.
— So, What are you doing here, McClane?
— Well, it seems this place is the novelty of the moment, everybody says great things about it so I wanted to use my free time to prove it.
— And what do you think? Do you like it? — he said with a sassy tone.
— It is not bad. — I said with the same tone as him.
— And what about the company?
— It is not bad either.
He chuckled at the moment he heard my comment, he really has a pleasant laugh so I smiled when I listened to it.
— So... Won't you eat what you asked for?
— Oh, of course, I'll do. — I said taking a sip from my coffee — Aren't you going to order something to eat?
— Can we leave it for another day? I should go back to college and I'm going late. — he said taking a look at his cellphone.
— Of course, it'll be another day then. — I said a little disappointed.
— Well, see you later McClane.
— Bye. — I said with the said indifference from the beginning while he was walking away from me.
Back in college, I tried not to think a lot about that stranger but my attempts were useless, I kept asking myself how could he enter to my life and my mind in that daring way. Either I could stop thinking about his sassy smile and the unfinished questions.
Then I realized that it couldn't be possible to see meet him again because any of both asked the phone number to each other, but I thought about to come back to Y&R with the hope to see him again. Once at home, I dedicated to finishing my homework, I took a shower and finally I went to bed thinking about his behavior so flirty.
The next morning, the scorching heat that came from my window room woke me up, which made me realized that I was forgotten to put my alarm and so I fell asleep more time than I wanted to; I woke up immediately after to check out my clock and see that it was already 9 am o'clock. If I get a rush maybe I could get to college at the next class. After a quick closet analysis, I put on denim jeans, a black long sleeve blouse, a white sweater, my white casual sneakers, and my black leather backpack. I picked my hair in a ponytail, I prepared soluble coffee in a thermos, I locked my apartment and finally, I drove fast to the college.
My car was a red Ford Fiesta 2019 model, maybe it wasn't a big deal but it got me out a lot of trouble. I arrived just in time to my second class of the day and so I sat beside my best friend, being with her always feels like back home, we understand each other very well and she became in my family now I was at the United States, so far from my parents.
— Hi Andy, Did I missed up a lot from the last class? — I said with a worried tone that she instant notest.
— Not really, but tomorrow it'll be an exam.
— Oh no!, What am I going to do? I won't know anything about the topic of today!
— Take it easy, it's not a big deal. If you want, we can go to Yummy & Ready after class so I could explain to you that topic with a coffee that you're going to invite me, of course. — she said winking at me and laughing.
Perfect, I thought to myself, maybe I'll find Chen at that place, anything could happen.
— Cool, whatever by not suspend the matter.
The classes took their normal course and in the end, we went to the coffee shop as we agreed. Once there, a waiter took our order after we sat at a table next to a window and then we started to study.
While we were studying, I secretly inspected the place to see if he was there
— So?
— What? — I didn't have an idea about what she told me before that.
— Come on girl, What happen with you? You are very distracted.
— I don't know what you're talking about, that's not true.
— Yes yes. — she said with a skeptic tone
— I'm serious.
— Better tell me what is happening, girl!
I doubt for a few seconds if I should tell her or better not, because I knew that if I tell her she would ask me a lot of questions and she'll never leaving me alone until I'll introduce him to her. But I also didn't think that would be the right thing to hide something from my best friend.
— Well then... there's a guy and...
— I knew it! What is his name?, Is he handsome?, Does he live in the city? Come on, tell me everything
— Well, maybe I could tell you everything if you could shut your mouth for a second. — I said laughing while I throwing her a potato chip from our order.
— Okay, I'll shut my mouth, you don't have to overreact.
I told her the entire story of how I met Chen and when she was satisfied with the details we restart the study job, this time I tried to concentrate the most I could but without loose faith to see him enter the place again. The hours passed and Chen never showed up.
At 8 pm o'clock, we decided to leave, so I went to take Andy to her parents' home and then I went to my department. Once at home, I leave my stuff on the sofa and then I walked until my room to put on my pajamas, I take off to the makeup I was wearing and finally, I brushed my teeth. As I settled inside the bed cover I thought I really wanted to see him again, I guess our meeting was just a coincidence, but if not, then the fate will make sure we meet again, so I won't worry, that happens whatever has to happen.
