Damon walked into the house, surprised by the soft sound of laughter drifting from the living room. It was late— past the time Jessica usually went to bed after putting Emily to sleep. He paused at the entrance, not believing what he was seeing.
There, on the couch, sat his mother, Lilian, and Jessica, both watching a soap opera on the television. Lilian's face lit up when she noticed him.
"Dame! You're home. How was your day, darling?" she asked warmly, patting the seat beside her.
Jessica glanced at him briefly as she mumbled a quiet "Welcome," just loud enough for him to hear.
Damon raised an eyebrow, amused by the sight. "You're still up? You always head to bed right after putting Emily to bed. What's the special occasion?"
Jessica returned her attention to him once again, her expression indifferent. "I go to my room, not to bed, sir," she corrected casually before turning her attention back to the television.
