"Felix~" After making sure there wasn't anyone around, Kael spread his arms widely and walked towards his brother who stood by the gate listening to songs.
"Don't. I don't swing that way." Felix raised his hand like a shield before Kael could run to him and give him a big brotherly hug.
"You sure?" Cathy also swayed her body and strode towards the brothers, her eyes glinting in amusement.
"Yes." Felix nodded and dipped his head down, causing his hood to cover his delicate features.
"Tsk, no fun." although she said that, Cathy was barely holding back her laughter from his cold and annoyed expression.
Felix was a guy no one knew of, in his schooltime he was overshadowed by his brother's charisma and usually stayed alone. Even Cathy who initially befriended Kael and started to hang out with him later found out about the identical twin Felix who kept his face hidden by a mask.
But after getting to know him, she was surprised. He was a cold guy who pushed everyone away, and yet, he had a surprising charm that somehow pulled everyone towards him instead.
This could be judged by the fact that whenever he was on the stage, impersonating Kael, the audience was much more lively and liked his voice, which was a little softer than Kael's, but nothing too much.
"Here's today's pay." Kael sneakily took two notes from the bundle and then handed the bundle to Felix.
Felix expressionlessly took the cash and began to count it, "Low." he muttered.
"Yes, the bitch said tickets aren't selling well," Kael said in a low voice.
"Maybe because of this." Felix pulled out his phone and tapped on an article. He then left the phone in Kael's hand and left the hall to wave a taxi.
"Shit…" Kael cursed and Cathy leaned into the phone, her mouth opening into an O.
[ The Great Kaelix Magic Show Mystery Unsolved!!! Scam 2034! ]
[ The infamous Kaelix show of Astradom city, known for its mind-boggling teleportation unwinded. The scam of two lookalikes! ]
Headings like these appeared to be trending on the X, a popular SNS site. Kael clicked on the first article and a lengthy paragraph opened up, with many attachments of pictures and weird wavy graphs.
At first, Kael had hopes that it was fake news, but the more he read, the more his belief faltered. The news was rock solid along with proofs containing voice frequencies of Felix and Kael's voice. It was obviously not the same, causing most of the audience to believe this article.
- I knew it! There is no way someone can actually teleport!
- Meh, scammers. Now my child is searching for ways of teleporting too!
- Commentor upstairs, maybe there is still time to try for a smarter one.
Kael read a few comments and then closed the app, massaging his forehead. This is definitely going to plummet their sales. Plus they had such huge debts to pay, how would they pay when they were worried they might get thrown out of the magic show?
Even him who had a mind full of humour could barely chuckle dryly while thinking of the article and issues.
Cathy rested her hand on Kael's shoulder and squeezed it lightly, showing her support without saying anything.
Kael nodded to her in appreciation and then shakily moved forward to the door, masking his true nervousness with every step he took outwards. By the time he was outside of the door, he appeared as jolly and carefree as ever.
Felix who had flagged down a taxi, glanced at his brother and extended his palm forward, staring into Kael's eyes. Kael sighed and returned Felix's phone to him.
"Kael." Felix said.
Kael clicked his tongue and grumpily smashed the two notes in Felix's hand, causing them to crumple.
"Good." Felix pocketed the notes and sat on the front seat of the taxi, and once the other two were seated, the taxi drove off into a gloomy neighborhood.
"It's not my place to say, but you kids live… here?" the older taxi driver, having a face of a kind Latin-American, asked Felix while glancing at Kael's and Cathy's good looks. Suggesting that such a slumlike place didn't belong to such good-lookers
"Take a left." Felix ignored the man's words and looked out the window, his eyes glinting in sorrow as he saw some poor kids playing with rubber tires, covered in grime and dirt.
The driver pursed his lips and kept driving, not bothering to initiate another chat.
After a brief few minutes of bumpy ride, the taxi pulled up near an old building covered in graffiti and chipped walls.
Felix pulled out a few notes from his pocket and handed it to the old driver, leaving without a word.
"Thank you for the ride, mister." Kael smiled politely and gave a respectful nod, running after Felix. Cathy similarly left a polite thank you and then followed behind the brothers.
Inside a small dilapidated 1BHK apartment, Felix sat on the couch with his hood down and a pair of headphones on his ears.
Kael ran into the apartment and tossed his shoes in a corner, practically jumping at Felix as he asked, "Now you have a brief explanation to give, little brother."
Felix glanced coldly at Kael.
"Are you mad that you are younger than me by a few minutes, little brother?" Kael smirked, his voice dramatically loving.
Felix sighed and tapped on his phone, opening the same article and then he pushed it towards his annoying brother.
"Bro I already read it." Kael turned serious again, "What can we do to fix it?"
By this time Cathy had also entered the apartment as she gently took off her heels and kept them in a corner, also fixing the shoes that Kael had tossed.
Noticing the serious mood, she silently came and leaned on a table since the couch had no space.
"Reveal the truth," Felix answered after a few seconds of thought.
"We can't!!! What will the public think of when they find out we were deceiving them?!" Kael slapped his own thighs and exclaimed.
"You're hurting my ears." Felix pushed the loud fool away and cleaned his ears with his nails. However, his fingers began to shake, causing his nails to scrape inside his ear, shooting a spike of pain.
"Fuck, stay still!" He hissed.
"Bro… I am not moving, the whole city is…" Kael felt the tremors on the ground and his face was drenched with all colors.
"Earthquake…" Cathy silently murmured to herself in shock and panic, "At least 5 in magnitude. Maybe more…"
Her words hung in the air while Felix pushed Kael off the couch and flipped the couch, taking cover under the couch as he called others to hide under the couch.
Their popularity issue was quickly forgotten when the glasses began to quiver and objects fell to the floor.
"Hide," Felix said to the other two from under the couch.
