“Well, don’t think too long. The offer isn’t open ended,” he snaps, then gets up from the table, “I have a meeting. I’ll let you sleep on it.”
With that, he leaves me alone in the dining room. He slams the front door so hard it shakes the chandelier and I wince.
Crap, I think. That did not go the way I planned. I can’t keep a handle on my emotions around him. But it did work out that he invited me to dinner. I’m closer to the front door and maybe if I’m lucky, Carl is still upstairs....
As I creep towards the entrance and start to turn the corner, I see Carl’s bulky form blocking the exit. I curse my luck, but steel myself to follow through on my original plan.
“Hey, Carl,” I say with a bright smile.
“Hi, Miss Raven. Did you enjoy your dinner?” he asks politely. I feel really bad for what I’m about to do.
“I’m really sorry about this Carl,” I tell him.
