Chapter 7: Chapter 7

Carmen rushed inside before I could object. I would have stayed outside, but for some reason my inner snark left my body and I was compelled towards the door. I hadn’t been to a shop like this in a while, but it was the same as I remembered: statues of various saints and talismans covering the wall, herbs that mixed up their scent with whatever incense was on special that day, different colored candles, and finally books that offered spiritual help for those who sought it.

“I still can’t believe you brought me here,” I said, feeling my snark return.

Carmen put her finger up to her mouth. “Shhh! Trust me, she can help you, but you have to behave.”

I rolled my eyes and glanced at the different books, pulling one out so I could see what was inside.
