Chapter 2: Level up

In a darkened passageway of a certain dungeon, a skeleton was standing still. In front of him was a big, blue screen.

"Nice, a small increase in Mana and HP and a status point. The experience seems to double every time, so for level 10 I'll need...102400(?) XP? FML. I'll put the point in SPT and get a move on."

To finally level up, the skeleton had had to kill 3 more centipedes and 2 strange, slug-like creatures. They were called Monster slugs, a very original name. Their shell was understandably quite unbreakable, but with some planning, he managed to bait their heads out and smash them into pulp.

He did manage to get one of his bones nicked though. The slug had managed to hit him with some kind of bone arrow. James could remember his biology class having something like that mentioned, but wasn't sure. His [Regrow lv 0] came in handy and even managed to level up.

Satisfied with his success, James continued on killing. One of the things he found the best about his body is that he felt neither hunger nor did he tire. He could do with some muscles though, especially since his movements were very slow and his strength was feeble.

Continuing on, James found his next victim, a lone goblin. The goblin had no armour or clothing but carried around a rusted, old sword. Since the goblin was at most a meter tall, the sword was comically large in comparison to it. It struggled to carry the sword.

"[Deduce]"

[Cave goblin: a small dungeon goblin capable of seeing in the dark within a range of 10 meters.]

"K~ey... the other ones didn't have that. Let's just do it the old way, an ambush."

The skeleton moved, it's trusty stone still in its hands. The goblin continued moving towards the skeleton, too preoccupied to look around. "I'm such a lucky bastard." thought James as the goblin reached striking distance.

"WHAM!"

The stone made quick work of the goblin. He gave out only a measly 10 XP. "Disappointing." thought James as he crouched to inspect the rusty sword. He wasn't able to see it earlier, but the rust was actually not rust at all, but rather dried old blood. Intrigued by the discovery, the skeleton assumed the job of the now-dead goblin and continued dragging the sword. Unlike the goblin, though, he was dragging it towards another wider cave hall that also had a small puddle of water in the middle.

The blood had been on the sword for a very long time, to the point it turned so dry, its strength and texture was like that of stone. James had to hit the sword with his rock in order to peel off the hard outer layers. Half an hour later, the shiny surface of the sword was revealed once again to the world.

"Cutting eternity." said the engravings that ran along the blade of the sword. Strangely enough, the words were written in Latin, "Secare aeternitatem.". The moment the skeleton had spoken the words in its head, however, the sword shone a sudden, bluish light, before turning still again.

"What? Did it do something? Hmmm... nothing's different though. Magic I guess. This sword is quite strange though... it's definitely used with both hands but it's too short for a claymore or a zweihänder. There is also no pommel, maybe it broke off? The rest is very high quality so why would it? Hmmm."

Whilst the skeleton was having its inner monologue, a shadow began creeping up on it. Its green, pointy ears and small stature indicated another goblin. Perhaps a friend of the first one. This goblin was special however, it was covered in a black cloth and held a dagger that was laced with poison. It was a goblin assassin if you will.

Slowly and soundlessly, the goblin assassin inched towards the skeleton. Ten meters, five meters, four meters, two, one... "Swish! Crack!" The sound of the blade and later that of a bone breaking was heard.

"Aghhhh! You bastard!" came the skeletons silent scream. One whole side of its ribcage had been completely shattered, "Only 2 HP left, fuck!" Though James as he jumped backwards and strengthened the grip on his sword.

The goblin, now in shock that its foe could still move even after the one-shot attack, stumbled into the puddle. James spotted the opportunity and gave an almighty swing with the sword. It connected, and cleaved the goblin messily into two, brains and blood splattering everywhere.

[Level up!]

"Fuck me! Almost like a fool! Little sneaky bastard fucker! Thank god I'm already dead so it doesn't hurt." James made a few steps towards the goblin carcass and give it a few kicks, his bony feet making holes in the goblin's skin.

A few minutes later he had finally calmed down a bit. "I levelled up, didn't I? Let's check."

"Throw the point into END and check the new title and skill." Immediately, James felt hotness spread through his body as it suddenly felt much sturdier. He instantaneously healed by 2 points.

"Uhhh..."
