Chapter 589: Mountain Sop

*BOOOM!*

Everyone is blasted backwards, Surtr, Paarthurnax, Illococoo in the air, and even Alduin is launched straight off of the mountain from the force of his shout.

Illococoo has to spin the air and fly at Surtr to recover him since his gravity was still reversed, and Paarthurnax was far too injured to rapidly recover from his displacement.

Alduin was like a giant scaly black cannonball flying off of the mountain, Dragonrend's effect barely ceases in time for him to stop himself from hitting the floor. Even with preventing that, he was still injured from Surtr's earlier attack, blood dripping in the air from the cut in his back.

"YOU MAY HAVE WON THIS DAY, DRAGONBORN! BUT I WILL RETURN! STRONGER! AND WITH AN ARMY AT MY BACK! NID FEN KRIIST WAH ZEY!" he roars as he begins flying away, not willing to risk taking another Dragonrend and his potential defeat.

With his escape, the meteor storm stops, allowing Surtr and his dragon allies some reprieve... Durnehviir was limping back up the mountain with a snapped wing and fractured leg, Paarthurnax had lost enough blood to kill a mammoth, and Illococoo had expended too much magic forcefully manipulating air elemental energy.

Surtr was no better either, Alduin's shout had broken many of his ribs, a clavicle, and ruptured some internal organs judging by the blood he was coughing... His favoured arm was also heavily strained, using it to smack meteors to position himself and attack Alduin had made it painful just by its existence, let alone moving it...

Illococoo flies drops and lands heavily as she lowers Surtr to the ground, the Rhyme Dragom dropping to her side exhausted... "Hahhh... D-did we do it...?"

"We did... But not without damage to our own." Surtr grunts as he falls onto his ass. He checks his backpack but finds most of his potions shattered and worthless... "Fuck."

"Kein fen fahbo." Paathurnax utters as he falls tiredly onto his chest, his shoulder still seeping blood, "Alduin will soon recover, he will not be so arrogant the next we fight..."

Surtr clutches his ribs and rests on the ground, "Will my troubles never end..." he groans... Sure, he should be happy that they'd 'defeated' the literally World Eater, but that was only with the combined might of him and three incredibly strong dragons, along with the crippling effects of Dragonrend.

If Alduin decides to bring an army of dragons with him next, Surtr was sure the battle would not end so favourably. "What do we do...? We need to catch him before he gathers his forces... We won't be able to fight him and an army of dragons..."

"Maybe we should ask for big bro to help..." Illococoo tiredly asks.

"Maybe..." Surtr reluctantly admits, regardless his new suspicion of Michael's intentions, letting the world be destroyed over a grudge would be the height of stupidity.

"The situation is not as grave as it seems... Alduin's defeat here will pause many of our kin, not everyone follows him willingly, but out of fear... Some may choose to side with us..." Paathurnax informs.

"And do you think that is likely?" Surtr asks.

...

"Perhaps... Your relentless hunting of our kin may see them fleeing Skyrim completely..."

Surtr sniffs, "Maybe they should have thought about burning farms, villages, and cities then."

"Are you forgetting those who you butchered in their nests?" Durnehviir asks as he slowly lumbers into view. "We roost atop mountains as much to protect ourselves than to survey our territory..."

...

"Do any of you know where Alduin will go now?"

"Sovngarde, I suspect." Paarthurnax states, causing Surtr's breath to hitch in his throat.

"S-Sovngarde!?"

"Hmm." Paarthurnax gives an acknowledging hum, "He will feed on the souls of the dead to regain his power, perhaps even gain power... I recall there existing deep in the eastern mountains that could take the living to Sovngarde, he will use this."

"T-then we must stop him! I can't let him devour and defile my ancestors! This can not stand!" he exclaims, trying to get to his feet but failing due to his injuries.

"You're not going anywhere like that..." Illococoo remarks, still not getting up herself.

"Neither should he. We need to rest, plan. Alduin will be expecting us to follow."

Surtr grits his teeth, "Let us find which dragons still want to serve him then, gather those who want to fight and we'll take the battle to him."

Paathurnax nods, "I will ask my kin, you speak with yours. Tell them of Alduin's action in Sovngarde, bring them forth."

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Four days later :

"So... You mean to tell me that a dragon, Alduin, is currently in Sovngarde devouring the souls of our ancestors...?" Ulfric slowly regurgitates Surtr's explanation, trying to figure out whether or not the Dragonborn had truly lost his mind.

Surtr calmy folds his still-sore arms, "Did you not notice the catastrophe happening over the Throat of the World? Ivarstead and Riverwood were almost completely destroyed, along with what was left of Helgen... Even High Hrothgar is barely standing at the moment!"

"I saw the reports but just assumed that a dragon attacked! The barest notion of your tale hadn't even entered my mind! Nor the minds of any of my advisors!"

"Well, High King, you better believe it! Because if you ignore it who knows how many souls of honourable men and women would be devoured! It will be too late by the time you pull your head from your ass!"

"How dare you speak to your King like tha-" a nearby guard exclaims, but Surtr responds with a weak "Fus!", sending him spinning into a wall which easily knocks him out.

"WE MUST ACT, ULFRIC! I barely survived the battle with Alduin with three dragons aiding me! What do you think will happen when I face him and an army of dragons!?"
