Chapter 17: Chapter 16: Meeting toothless

I stealthily made my way down and kicked a rock so that they would hear me. I drop to the bottom and I am immediately met with a plasma shot from toothless. I dodge to the left and hold my hands up in surrender. I slowly move my hand toward my axe and toss it behind me and it imbeds into the roots of a tree. I then move my left hand to take my hidden blade off of my right arm and toss it away from me.
I look at hiccup and say with a small laugh, "Hey little brother. When I said that you should make some friends. This isn't exactly what I meant."
I then turn back toward the dragon and give it a show of me having no weapons. Seeing that I am no longer a threat it calms down a little and steps in front of hiccup to protect him.
Hiccup rushes towards me and says, "I appreciate the sarcasm, but we need to go. Now."
He begins to push me away from his new friend and when we get up to the ledge I turn around and look at toothless. I make a motion of reaching into the bag on my hip and grab a low quality dragon essence. When I take it out I notice that it looks exactly like a dog treat with the only difference being that it is the size of my hand. I whistle to get the dragons attention and toss it to him. It lands a few feet in front of him and when he smells it he begins to chow down on it. While he is gnawing on the treat, his scales seem to gain a healthy sheen. When he finishes the treat he gives me a small roar of thanks and returns to his makeshift bed.
When we return from the small meeting we head up to one of the many watch towers to find the other trainees eating around a fire. I head over to sit behind Astrid and hang my arm over her shoulder. I look over to see snotlout glaring at me. I smile back at him and give the back of Astrid's head a kiss and she blushes which makes him even more jealous and angry. Helga gives her a shit eating grin and begins to mess with her. Helga begins to tease Astroid and when she has enough she turns and shocks everyone, including me. In front of everyone she turned and kissed me. After a few seconds I snapped out of my shock and decided to kiss her back. Everyone there, except snotlout who was turning red from anger, gave their shouts of approval.
The moon rises over the horizon and everyone is leaving for bed. Hiccup is the first to leave and after I escort Astrid home I rush to see what he is up to. When I get to his room I see him checking some sort of contraption. He unfolds it and I can now see that it is his prototype for toothless' tail flap. He then folds it back in and turns to see me staring at him.
He jumps in surprise and asks, "W-What are you doing here?"
I smile and respond, "I could ask you the same question."
He begins to stutter and tries to hide his creation, but before he can fully hide it I push him slightly to the side and look at the schematic on the wall.
I admire it for a few seconds before saying, "Just make sure that you are safe. I don't care if you make friends with the dragon, but I do care about you."
The next morning Hiccup rushes off to try out his invention and I head off to the arena to help Gobber with tomorrows dragon training. He tells me to grab the buckets and get some water and when I bring back the last bucket he puts it in line with the others.
It is now the next day and everyone is at the arena.
Gobber says, "Today is about teamwork. Now, a wet dragon head can't light its fire. The hideous zippleback is extra tricky. One head breaths gas, the other head lights it. Your job is to know which is which."
While he is giving his lesson I see that they all split into groups of two with Helga being on her own.
I hear snotlout yell, "There!"
I then hear a small splash and see tuffnut running away in pain. I shift my attention to the poor excuse of a throw from hiccup and notice an eel around his neck underneath his fur jacket. He begins to push the zippleback back into its cage and everyone stands behind him in shock at what he did. He then gives a poor excuse and rushes off back home to make a saddle for toothless.
The next training day, Gobber decides to go back to the Gronckle and I notice that hiccup had a tuft of grass in his hand. When he gets into the arena, the dragon rushes towards my brother to try and ram him. As the dragon gets closer, it begins to smell the grass in hiccups hand and stops in its tracks. Hiccup, seeing the dragon stop, begins to rub the grass on its nose to pacify it. This shocks the villagers watching even more than when he used the eel.
The next morning after that Gobber chooses, once again, to go back to a dragon they had already faced before. This time it was the nadder. When it bursts out of its cave like cage, it rushes toward Helga. She throws her axe at its head, but it deflects it away and charges at her. She dodges to the side and goes to grab her axe. Missing its original target, it decides to charge at the human behind her. Just like in the previous day, hiccup shocks the crowd by scratching it in a specific spot under its neck, knocking it out of commission.
Two days after the scratching incident was the day when they faced the terrible terror and, just like the last two training days, hiccup shocks the crowd by using his shield to shine the light like a laser. The terrible terror chased the light, like a house cat would, all the way back into its cave.
When he leaves the arena everyone rushes to congratulate him, but he manages to sneak off into the woods. Helga tries to follow him but he somehow loses her in the woods. Gobber gives them a break and hiccup disappears for the entire day. That same day, at night, I go for my nightly run and I hear hiccup rummaging around in Gobber's workshop.
