Chapter 1: Reincarnated to a prison

*You were reincarnated to a prison!*

*Tutorial task - leave the prison*

*Tutorial side tasks - develop your basic skills*

This damned, flashing message continued to hang in the corner of my vision, no matter how long I attempted to ignore it. I could look to the right, to the left, below my feet or above my head, but it always remained at the perfect angle to allow me to read its content but never to actually reach for it and check whether it was tangible in any way or form.

"Just what the heck is going on?"

According to all the words that the priests of my area liked to repeat, I should be either ascending to the heaven accompanied by the angelic choirs or more likely descending down to hell where the due justice for my crimes would await me.

Or maybe the prison that was currently my new home was some sort of purgatory created just for me? Given how I joined mafia as soon as I came of age, given how I turned out to be one of the most efficient money launderers in the entire criminal world… It wouldn't be that strange if one of the devils decided that prison was a place perfectly fitting for my crimes!

"Just what the hell is this tutorial thingy…"

For some reason, I could perfectly remember the moment of my death. The perfectly flat front of the autonomous truck that my money-laundering efforts helped to finance and develop. Sadly, it turned out that one of my subordinates didn't like the idea of succeeding me in a natural way, so he made sure I would never see the day of my promotion within the ranks of the organisation. Even now I could still picture the moment when I was lying down on the street, with a pool of my own blood forming around me.

*Tutorial stage is a means for the system to grant the host with the constitution befitting his initial set of choices.*

As soon as I voiced out my desperate question, born from the absolute confusion about the situation, a new flashing message appeared this time, right in front of my eyes.

"Eh?"

Surprised by the sudden change, I could feel my body inevitably backing off a few steps. While the fact that my innate instincts were still working was good, it was quite problematic to learn that this damned white screen with black letters on it didn't seem to remain in place, following my steps instead and still covering most of my vision!

Well, it would be a problem if not for the entire prison where I currently was, being kept in complete darkness that even my criminal eyes couldn't pierce through!

"Choices… As if I had any choices. Whoever is toying with me, I don't mind playing your game! Got that? Great! So give me some damned tools to actually fulfil the task you gave me already!"

Voicing out my protests once again, I could see the message in front of my eyes disappearing, only to be replaced by another one in the very next moment.

*Host main ability branch - cleaning.*

*Host ability aspects - Social, Objective, Creative*

*Aspects levels: Social 0(0/1), Objective 0(0/1), Creative 0(0/1)*

As strange as this entire situation was for me, the innate drive of a hobbyist gamer and energetic thug made it impossible for me to just sit down and await my fate. No matter what was the reason for all the events around me, at least I had some kind of direction now!

"Cleaning, huh…"

If I were to go with the idea that my last words before my death influencing how I was accepted into the current scenario, then I would only have myself to blame. Given how dutiful and full of passion I was, even when my heart couldn't transport more oxygen to my brain due to the blood loss, I still couldn't think about anything else but how I failed to launder the last tranch of the organisation's money!

"Let's clean, then!"

While there was absolutely no natural source of light in my current prison cell that made up my homes, the flashing light of the messages was more than enough for me to realise just in what kind of messy place I was living right now.

To start things off, it was actually a huge achievement to litter the entire cell with how limited the inside furniture was. Looking around, I could identify broken parts of the wooden frame, a simple mattress turned into torn material and loose feathers filling the floor… The only part of the room that was relatively well-kept was a special hole in the corner of my luxury room where the most basic human need could be taken care off.

"Eh… I have no idea what's going on, but it seems like I'm supposed to clean? Even if its just some idiotic trick, then there is nothing wrong in cleaning my place a bit…"

Muttering to myself to keep my mind sane, I fell down on my knees in order to start gathering all the feathers that made up the filling of the mattress in a single pile.

"Wait… what? My back doesn't hurt?"

Being barely thirty years of age when my death happened, I already tasted the pains of how stupidly the human body was designed. Even though my job required me to keep myself fit and trained, whenever I would lean towards my feet or even bend my back a bit without prior heating up exercise, a sharp pain would assault my senses, forcing me to take a moment to let my back get used to its new position!

From this one discovery, an avalanche of realisation followed. My skin was far smoother than it used to be, with all the rough spots on my hands that brought back the memories of my early days in the organisation… GONE! Each move of mine seemed to be far smoother, even breathing didn't feel like I would cough my lungs out in the result of taking a bit too much air at once!

It seemed as if all the problems caused by my rather rowdy past… Disappeared!

"Eh, no point thinking about it now."

Ignoring those strange notions, I moved my focus back to my current task. With a few diligent moves of my hands, most of the feathers were stacked on a single pile. Taking up the torn pieces of the mattress I quickly stuffed it with said feathers before putting it on the ground, torn parts facing the bottom. Without any sewing machine or even sewing tools, I could only dream about turning the mattress back to its original state!

*Good job! Host's personal action made him develop his objective cleaning aspect of the cleaning skill!*

*Objective cleaning level up requirements were met!*

*Objective cleaning is now level 1(0/2)!*
