TSM – Volume 1 – Chapter 20: Sure enough, her identity isn't so simple X "Carry on."
The duo remained transfixed in their positions for a few breaths of time after hearing the words of the telekinetic.
What was the point of saying that after killing the chemistry that had been birthed between them?
They shared one last awkward glance before separating from each other and looking in different directions while putting their clothes in order.
Apparently, Felicity had been offing his pants the entire time, preparing to grab his tool and play with it, but he had been too engrossed in his own world to care.
Now that he had gotten sober, he felt somewhat empty inside.
'It has only been five minutes, Hudson.' He berated himself. 'And you were ready to get into someone else's pants?'
'What is wrong with you?!'
Caressing his own neck, he sighed uncomfortably while walking towards the next flight of stairs that would take them down to the next floor.
"We should get out of here," he said. "Not the best place to talk."
"Yeah… or do anything else for that matter." Felicity replied casually, though her voice was a bit lower than normal.
Hudson found her brazenness to be mind-numbing. Was she seriously undermining his effort to avoid talking about what had just happened… or almost did?
Glancing back at her, he found that she was looking away from him, to the side, with her pale cheeks now a shade of pink.
He sighed and said; "So, where do we go now? You said you'd be my guide and I'd like to take you up on that offer."
"As for the bodyguard part though… I'm not sure why someone who is confident enough to work in a prison, with a job that allows them to come into direct contact with prisoners, without any guards stationed nearby would have need for one."
Felicity, on hearing his words, regained her composure and approached him, stopping about a foot from him before speaking;
"That's in the prison, not out here in the real world." she said. "That place is for individuals that do not even possess enough power to pose a notable danger to me – much less kill me."
"Out here in the city is a lot more dangerous and fine wine like me is sure to get many thirsty figures drooling – thirsty wolves that have wings (superpowers)."
Hudson didn't turn to look at her, continuing to stare down at the lower floor through the gap in the stairs.
"You really fancy yourself some sort of princess huh." He muttered audibly. "Though I would not disagree that you are indeed a desirable rose."
Raising his gaze to rest upon the yellow brick wall before him, he continued; "Haven't you been doing just fine without a bodyguard this entire time? Why do you suddenly need one? I really can't understand you."
"And let us assume that I do accept to become your shadow, who will probably be suffering from a case for poor work ethic – merging love and work and all that 'fun' stuff, what about the authorities? We are definitely on their search list – all the CCTV and other stuff are probably being monitored right now – or will soon be,"
"When they find us, which is sure to happen sooner or later, are you just going to be like 'hi'? What will you even say in that position? How would you explain it away?"
Both parties remained silent for about half a minute before Felicity suddenly let out a low amused laugh.
"Hehe! You assume I'm just some nurse, don't you?" she snickered as though she had found something so ridiculous it was funny. "Right, going by the logic that you are from a different world, it would make sense that you do not know of my identity."
"It is not just some 'logic' but a hard fact and reality." He said, turning around to face her, leaning his back on the rails. "Also, an identity… what, are you are not going to suddenly drop some random bomb like 'I am actually a literal princess.,' are you?"
After he finished speaking, there was another bout of stiff silence and soon he started to get uneasy due to her straight and serious expression.
"Wait, what? I did not guess it right, did I?" he swallowed inaudibly, his spine tingling as his emotions grew a bit uncertain.
He wondered; 'I did not become some romance movie protagonist, did I?'
'Or worse… a series? Will I have to deal with the annoying parents-in-law stereotype and be looked down upon as a less-than-ideal candidate for a son-in-law?'
'Eh? Wait. This is a superhero society so; would royalty make sense? Maybe they would be some insanely rich family instead.'
'Or both.'
'No. No. No. Why is that what I am thinking about right now? Marriage? Courting? A relationship? I am not ready for any of those things!'
'Either way… How should I feel about her status? Isn't it supposed to be a good thing that she is a high-ranking person? She may be able to move some weight aeound and have me pardoned and let off from the law.'
"Heh." He scoffed at himself outwardly, while adding inwardly; 'Yesterday, I would have joined hands with Chloe to verbally abuse politicians and boudoirs that showed up on the news for abusing their power and wealth, and yet… Here I am now, hoping that one would do the same thing to help me escape a crime (breaking out and abduction) that I actually committed.'
"What? Is the prospect that the idea of me actually being one of an influential background so amusing?" she asked in atone that came off slightly offended and yet simultaneously humored.
"No… that's not…" he trailed off, lacking the exact words to explain his stance in a short period of time.
In fact, did he want to bring up his wife and kid in this conversation?
He wasn't ready to outwardly talk about them with anyone yet.
Instead, he opted to change the topic; "What do you reckon we should do then? Can your background really our pursuers off our backs? Permanently?"
She could not hide the pride, as she spoke with a sardonic smile on her face;
"Why, of course. We could even head over to my home right now!"
