Chapter 10: Chapter 10: Messing With Edward

As the end of the day approached, Charles made his way to the school office, a plan forming in his mind. With a casual air, he informed the receptionist that he needed to speak with Edward Cullen regarding his parking pass and requested that Edward meet him in his office.

Walking away from the somewhat stunned-looking receptionist, Charles couldn't help but feel a sense of anticipation building within him. He knew that his encounter with Edward would be anything but ordinary.

Arriving at the makeshift security office—a cramped broom closet barely large enough to accommodate a desk and chair—Charles settled himself in, the single light bulb overhead casting a dim glow around him. With each passing moment, his excitement grew, his mind alive with possibilities.

As he pondered how best to approach the situation, Charles's keen senses picked up the sound of footsteps approaching. They were light, almost imperceptible, yet tinged with a hint of urgency—a failed attempt at masking their true intent.

Charles waited patiently, his heart pounding in anticipation, until the footsteps reached the door of his office. With a practiced ease, he called out, "Come in, Mr. Cullen."

He could almost hear the sharp inhale that followed his words.

Edward froze at the sound of the guard's voice, a sense of unease creeping over him like a shroud. Something about Mr. Newgate put him on edge, as if the man could see straight through to his soul.

Opening the door, Edward was greeted by the sight of Charles, his features obscured by the shadows cast by the low-hanging light bulb. The atmosphere in the room felt charged with tension, and Edward couldn't shake the feeling that he was being judged.

As Charles spoke in a deep, menacing voice, "you know why i called you here right mister cullen." Edward's heart skipped a beat, his nerves on high alert. He nodded in response, unable to tear his gaze away from the imposing figure before him.

But then, in an instant, Charles's demeanor shifted, his smile genuine and disarming. Edward felt a wave of relief wash over him as the tension in the room dissipated.

"Good, then I'll just make sure your parking pass is up to date and you're free to go," Charles said, his voice light and friendly.

As Edward handed over his pass, Charles checked it over with practiced efficiency. Finding nothing amiss, he returned it with a nod.

"You're all up to date, Mr. Cullen. Have a nice night," Charles said, his smile unwavering.

Edward wasted no time in leaving the office, eager to put the encounter behind him. Meanwhile, Charles finished up the rest of his shift with a sense of satisfaction, knowing that he had successfully navigated the delicate dance of power and intrigue.

With six hours until kick-off, Charles headed home to prepare for the watch party at Charlie's, his mind already buzzing with anticipation for the evening ahead.

not forgetting to pick up a couple of twelve packs of beer on his way home he parks his car in the garage. Charles wasted no time in getting everything ready for the evening ahead. His superhuman speed allowed him to breeze through the prep work in a matter of minutes, leaving him with ample time to spare.

Once the brisket was set, Charles took a moment to sit down in his living room, the scent of the smoking meat filling the air around him. With a deep breath, he closed his eyes and began to meditate, seeking a moment of peace amidst the chaos of his new life.

As he focused on his breath, Charles felt the tension slowly begin to melt away, replaced by a sense of calm and clarity. For a brief moment, he allowed himself to forget about the looming threats and uncertainties that lay ahead, embracing the stillness of the present moment.

Yet, even in his meditative state, Charles remained vigilant, setting a timer on his phone to ensure that he wouldn't lose track of time. He couldn't afford to miss the party at Charlie's—a rare opportunity to unwind and connect with his new neighbors.

With the timer set and his mind at ease, Charles allowed himself to sink deeper into meditation, savoring the quiet solitude of his home before the festivities of the evening began.

As Charles delved deeper into his meditation, he found himself drawn to a familiar sensation—a pulsing energy that resonated within him. Just as he began to explore this feeling further, his phone's timer interrupted his thoughts, signaling that several hours had passed in the blink of an eye.

Startled, Charles blinked his eyes open, taking in the time displayed on his phone screen. With a sigh, he rose from his meditation, the sense of calm dissipating as he realized how much time had slipped away.

Heading to the kitchen to tend to the brisket, Charles was interrupted by a knock at the door. Curiosity piqued, he peered through the peephole and was surprised to see Avery standing on his porch.

Opening the door, Charles greeted her with a warm smile. "Miss Swan, how can I help you?" he asked, his voice carrying a note of genuine friendliness.

Avery returned his smile, her eyes shining with warmth. "Please, Mister Newgate, just call me Avery. I came over to inform you that my sister doesn't eat meat and was wondering if you could make some veggies to go with the brisket."

Charles considered her request for a moment before a solution came to mind. "I could make grilled pineapple tofu skewers. Would that work?" he offered.

Avery's face lit up with excitement. "Yeah, that would be perfect! Need any help making it?"

Charles's smile widened at her eagerness. "Sure, but go let Charlie know you're going to be helping me with some cooking. I'll leave the door unlocked for you. Just come on in when you get back."

With that, Avery nodded in agreement before hurrying off to inform her father of the plan. As Charles returned to the kitchen to prepare the tofu skewers, he couldn't help but feel a sense of gratitude for the unexpected company and the chance to connect with his new neighbors in a meaningful way.
